Nod engineer : can place booby trap to denied recapture of neutral structure Scrin engineer : Can stealth while stand still to hide from danger Steel talon engineer : "i've yet to see anyone out smart bullet"
@@That80sGuy1972 from the death animation the engineer can have in the game, at least other GDI engie, he pulls out a pistol but doesn't get a single shot. they are equipped with a pistol, but it's super outdated as it won't penetrate most modern armors and they are specifically told to not use it unless it's absolutely an emergency. Then the GDI fucking wonders why they are losing to many engineers on the field.
It's a shame they never gave the ST any sort of reverse-engineered but improved plasma technology. For the Experimental weapons division, they really felt less advanced than ZOCOM.
I totally agree with you! What kind of "experimental weapons division" is that, if it feels so technologically obsolete? Even more obsolete than the primary GDI faction. Yes, they may have some rugged adaptations and battlefield-tested improvements for their units, but that's not really "experimental" in the way most people would expect.
For me, the Steel Talons "Experimentalness" is more on the fact they still cling on walker based vehicles rather than the tires and treads that everyone went after the Second Tiberium War. Kinda like how many nations had prototypes like the UK's TOG II a prototype tank build in case they get bogged down in trenches because they thought the next war was still gonna be like the WWI.
I disagree. The basic principle of engineering, that the one proven the most too be used, as it is most trustable. Experimental and new, has barely any used parts, replacement parts, industry, knowledge around it, and often brakes down.
Wait wait wait. Did kain target the steel talons relentlessly in order to remove his largest threat in the gdi. And now that they have been defunded. He can move more easily
@@NevadaGamingWedge really now? well the ST is still there just not as much as a issue then before now if they can get a string of victories under there belts and get there funding restored then kain will be in for round 2 of the lot. though that would require a GDI inspired game like kane's wrath to get them back in to the swing.
@@TheManofthecross I've done a few skirmishes pairing my ST's with Zocom against Hard Skrin AI and while the Titan walkersalone arnt very formidable, but in mixed units groups or just large groups, without the railgun upgrade they can tackle most Skrin ground forces ranging from low infantry to as high as 3 or 4 tripods with shielding. The Wolverines when paired with infantry are good counters to Skrin Buzzers and disintegrators as well.
I find it kinda funny that the idea of an armed engineer has cropped up in two different CnC games; Tiberium Wars and Red Alert 3, on two opposing factions
They chop and change this stuff all the time, red alert 2 Soviets had gun turrets on harvesters and now the gdi have them. Same for allied spies, now only nod have stealth kit.
It was more along the lines of how he knew that as long as the Brotherhood was still around, they would be a threat, with or without Kane, history proved that. While finding ways to clean the earth of Tiberium or at the very least halt its spread was wise, it was very unwise of GDI to almost completely defund its military in favor of environment and that complacency is what allowed Kane to easily infiltrate a blue zone and destroy the defenses for the Philadelphia, had they heeded Mitchell from the get go, kane would never have had that opportunity. it was hubris on GDI's part.
2 notes/corrections I'd like to add: 1. The heavy harvester mining speed reduction is only noticeable in-game, but it has been confirmed to be a bug. The same bug actually affected all of the new sub-factions in KW. 2. One of the biggest advantages of the Titan MK.2 over the standard tank that has not been mentioned in this video is the fact that it is a raised weapon platform, meaning it has the ability to fire over buildings, while it can use those same buildings as effective cover against other non-walkers.
Further advanatages to the walker design: Increased effective fire range and better armor penetrating capabilities due to elevated platform. lower risk of tiberium exposure. Higher mobility on uneven or clutered terrain. Hull is basically unpenetrable from the front Disadvantages: easily aquirable weakspots on the legs. provides no cover for infantry. Lower effective max speed. It is easy to see that the Titan outpreforms main battle tanks in purely mechanized combat, as well as having a distinct advanatge in cluterred suburban or tiberium infected areas. It is also harder to ambush due to it's higher cockpit. However when we take combined arms into the picture it's easy to see how the Titan is good for one thing and one thing only. Destroying armor. A resourceful infantry division can easily dispatch a Titan by targeting it's exposed legs, as well as the design lacking the infantry support capabilities of a main battle tank. Not to mention it is impossible to hide this thing.
@@kodan7879 Very well written. My comment was mostly based purely on gameplay purposes, however you did actually highlight a weaknes that I forgot as well. The titan can be destroyed in the game by a commando as well, just like the Avatars, Juggernauts/Behemoths and Tripods can, by simply using explosives to destroy it basically instantly. As for the armor vs. armor purposes, in the game itself the predator tank actually still either outclasses it or matches it in basically every category (armor, damage are greater on predators), while having the same cost to produce. The differences do come into play when it comes to either crushing other vehicles or shooting over buildings. There is also a difference in mobility, the titan being able to turn a full 180 degrees way faster, however, the predator can actually outperform it in certain situations by simply driving backwards, which the titan is incapable of.
@@TheNeoDaedalus Yeah EA made a mistake with the Titan design imo... I think their Tiberium Essence presence. Being a tech 2 heavy hitter unit, is the perfect place they should be in.
Damn I remember when I was a kid the titans and wolverines got me all pumped when I watched my cousin play tiberian sun. Thats when I got hooked on C&C
I always found it very ironic that the faction that has less infantry and focused more on vehicles had a harvester that needed infantry in order to defend itself
@@benceklock4831 That's true. Though I know NoStringsPrd has already done a video on the Forgotten and I think he mentioned some of the Tiberium wildlife in it as well.
You were a worthy opponent Gen. Mitchell, I'm glad to see the scribes and historians were wise enough to keep your story, so that future generations can learn of your kind of... courage
I loved the steel Talons. My favorite weapon was the Behemoth, but the lack of specialized troops was a hinderance, as well as the lack of heavy base defense such as sonic cannons. In the skirmish missions, I would often attack and capture a GDI or nod base for the heavier base defenses and specialized troops. One upgrade I wish they had for the titan is a second gun.
I missed the lack of sniper teams or any other stealth scouting unit. It was just odd that you could not spot for behemoths. Also, what are bunkers worth if you don't have any good infantry to use them.
@@keineangabe1804 I know what you mean. When I play the skirmish missions I always like to pair the nod transport with the GDI rig, and load it with one missal trooper, one sniper, and a zone trooper. Make for a good defensive array. The thing I miss though from Tiberium Sun is the building of walls and gates.
Steel Talons, can actually make great use of BH or MoK infantry, for instance Confessors can outright replace the Wolverine, if you start getting upgrades then it only gets better for the Confessors since Black Disciples get Purifying Flames (which is in my opinion one of the most cost effective upgrades in the game since barring the Mantis and other AA or AV units it upgrades all the units you want to be using as BH), and they are tougher then Steel Talons riflemen with a generally better damage output, even before upgrades, but not having an Armory really hurts the Talons, since even if they didn't get upgrades from it they can't heal their infantry squads like GDI or ZOCOM can, not having access to Zone Troopers in particular can hurt, but it can be worked around that and if ST got a Zone Infantry, they'd probably want a Anti-Infantry one, mainly since factions like MoK and T59 can really outpace their walkers without much trouble, meaning you have to use Riflemen in Hammerheads in order to catch them with ease, since T59 will just poke your death-ball to death since the Steel Talons aren't the Protoss or Hierarchy where the Death Ball is pretty hard to take down for one reason or another, and MoK will just EMP it.
IMO the steel talons should have had much better infantry, to make use of those garrisonable units. I would have played it so that while they start off well they have little upgrades to make them effective at the endgame. As a whole I would have taken greater inspiration from Tiberium Sun as well. Riflemen would have started with somekind of armour bonus but not as effective as composite armour. Grenadiers could have been replaced with discthrowers with greater range and near hitscan attacks. Its kind of insane that they have no zone trooper like unit, especially given their penchant for railguns and tech research. Hell maybe their infantry could have all been zone troopers (Though it takes away from the MoK imo). Given their attitude to combat its also insane that they do not use the Commando. Given that snipers and commandoes in lore use railguns, I would have swapped out AP ammo for a small arms railgun alternative. In game it could have made anti infantry units less versatile but more damaging against infantry. Maybe, it would make it a double edged sword. It could function like supercharged particle beams in that its just better than AP. I would have had Behemoths benefit from the railgun upgrade too 😂. Disruptors should have replaced shatterers as a slower but heavily armoured version, and MLRS replace slingshots as less powerful AA but more versatile as a rule. Maybe ORCA bombers replacing firehawks. For cherries on top, I would have had the Mammoth MkII instead of the MARV, one upgrade slot, max damage no marvesting.
It's ironic the fact Joshua Mitchell was right, but everyone in GDI high command decided was more important to fund environment restoration than prepare their military for a next confict with proper weaponry, as result without the means to defends the restored territories, all their efforts were render useless. Not fund properly Steel Talons was a great mistake. Maybe with the example of New Eden becoming once again a yellow zone and the impending Scrin invasion the Steel Talons will be highlly upgraded and well funded.

You know what really impresses me about the GDI? Between these guys and ZOCOM, they're actually quite interesting in terms of how they respond to the setting and conflict. Especially when set next to NOD, it'd be so easy for the good guys to be generic, but they're really not.
Honestly I felt Tiberian Sun just felt like a better future post apoch dystopia compared to Tiberian Wars, and the fact the hyper stylised gdi got relegated to a subfaction and they just brought back tanks took away some of their uniqueness. I wish there was a game that leaned in further into the hyper stylised forms of nod and gdi from Sun and Firestorm
well, the Forgotten and Tiberium infected life forms are almost gone in TW and by that I mean they play no role at all. you can capture a Forgotten barracks and train some Forgotten soldiers but they suck. ever since Tratos died in Tiberian Sun Firestorm, the Forgotten have collapsed. Nod/Cabal has a mission in Firestorm in which you kill all the Forgotten mutants afterall. they are almost gone. Tiberium Essence mod saved the C&C3 for me. it brought back all the retro old-school units, music and even the Forgotten faction into life. very nice mod to play some skirmish matches.
Tiberian Sun was the highlight. Wars I always felt suffered under what feels like a rushed schedule. They removed a lot of the Tiberium mutations, eerie atmosphere, etc. And settled on more generic environments and units.
I can live with the 'budget cuts' GDI but I do miss the Tiberium mutants. And the logic of why they are missing makes on sense since the Scrin are advanced Tib mutants.
I don't think it makes sense for Earth militaries to drop units such as tanks and planes to rely purely on mechs and copters any more than it would for infantry to be removed altogether.
i will NEVER forgive EA for killing the C&C franchise in such a disgracing manor!.... they had such great games to build upon & they fugged it up 😥 wars3 was the last playworthy game (even tho it has pathetic flaws) would love to see worthy successors to Tiberium Sun & Generals some day!
I am going to say I think GDI in general was wise to invest in both conventional combats vehicles as well as walkers. It allowed for more flexibility overall. And even though the Steel Talons may have been out smarted nod and Kane . I do think in the long run they helped keep nod in check and allowed GDI to operate effectively as a whole. As even if it was a big brain move for Kane to get the Steel Talons defunded he used allocate a lot of his own resources just to do that. So even if he was able to move more freely eventually I am sure his forces were crippled to some extent. Also I think the Steal Talons left not only visible but mental scars on nod veteran warriors that ultimately tested their faith to the brotherhood. Like the new recruits would be so energized for nods cause. While all You see in the corner are the cold Dark gazes of Nod Veteran Soldiers who survived hell against the Steel Talons and they look to each other and chuckle and say these poor bastards don't what kind of hell is instore for them. That is what I think of Steel Talons and GDIs Mech forces sure a wheeled apc my be of concern. But a Wolverine will make you keep your head down as its revs its deadly chain guns. Maybe a predator tank might make you rethink your plan of attack or wait until it passes by to ambush it from behind or the convoy its escorting. But I would like to think a Titan would feel like an encounter a T-Rex stop hide and don't make any sudden moves. Facing a mammoth tank might be your final stand to the death as a nod terrorist and you know your screwed. However you cry out defiance. A Behemoth on the other hand may make you pull out the white flag as a nod soldier and cry out why has Kane fore saken me. Now I am not saying that this is how a nod soldier would behave in any of these situations or in every case. But there is just something about a stomping mech that is just way more terrifying than any clacking of tank tracks could do. But that is just me. The Steel won in the sense that could force not into hiding or make them rethink their plans entirely which could end up in delayed and more predictable attack patterns by nod forces minimizing civilian casualties while maximizing lethality against nod forces. Sure examples in this video showed the steel talons getting wrecked and outplayed by Kane in the long run. But I would like to consider before Kane came back into the picture that indeed the Steel Talons were handing nods ass on a silver plater to them. But that is just my opinion. Although they may no longer be at the height of their strength as a fighting force. They Integrated with the main GDI Forces and have bolstered GDI's strength overall and are working effectively with traditional GDI forces on the battlefields of the future.
In One Vision, they are actually not too bad, but it's a shame that they aren't all that effective in the vanilla game despite being one of my personal favorite factions for their art style
Well, thank you, random RU-vid recommendations. I have a new channel to subscribe to! I like your style and even your voice is pleasant to listen to. You make a good narrator.

People say mechs are really impractical but the few times I played steel talon using their wolverines and titans, I can't help but feel that the pathfinding for hte mechs are better than the tanks Edit: However I should say that the argument here is sort of like saying DMRs are better than Standard assault rifles or ARs are better than sniper rifles, teh answer is not really as one is not better than the other, but will always exist next to each other.
@@justiceforjoggers2897 Yes but with a bit of determination, enginuity as well as some clever work arounds, its possible but since you mention it, the titans in CNC are simpel in design as the codpit lowers itself when idle
@@justiceforjoggers2897 Lol its because mechs can stomp obstacles that could hinder a tank. But if your mammoth tank your wide tracks and weight alone would also crush obstacles that might block a smaller tank like predator or vehicle.
The problem with mechs is that you spend a ton of resources, weight, mechanical complexity and time to produce a tank that can trip. Wolverines are small enough to work, but titans are probably a bit larger than what would be strictly practical. They do look fucking sweet though, which is really the only factor that matters.
@@jerrymartin7019 I do know that the titans and wolverines can be great for striking enemy positions from rough terrain as treads and engines can only do so much and I have seen plenty of people get their car towed out of mud pits, though the wolverines do move really fast
Honestly, I strongly believe that the Steel Talons should have had an armory with its own unique upgrades for their troopers. It would make them more viable, I'd imagine instead of composite armor for the troopers, it's an exosuit, which marginally increases their health but grants them a major speed boost (much like the cybernetic legs of MoK). Unique type of rockets for their rocket troops to deal more damage not unlike the tiberium rockets of the NOD. If they're an experimental division, you'd imagine they'd also want to essentially make the troopers into walking tanks, not unlike the Zone troopers but without it being as costly but just as efficient.
The AHV-8 Sandstorm lore entry also mentions the Steel Talons, naming at least one unit still in operation, the 151st Special Armor Brigade. This means they still existed as late as the Incursion War, and maybe even the Ascension Conflict. Of course that's only if you even consider the last game in the series canon. Either way they're little more than a footnote in known GDI history after the early interbellum period they originated in.
"Of course that's only if you even consider the last game in the series canon." Of course Command and Conquer 3 is canon. Shame they never made a sequel, though. 😉
A lot of TW2 units make their come back in Ascension War ( Cannon by EA, NOT consider cannon by fans) such as Titans or Mastodon. Basically, GDI acquired some fund when working with Kane and with their experience against Scrin, they change their doctrine from cheaper, easier to produced units to a more flexible doctrine with a mix of various units, for example, they revived and upgrade the Mastodon while upgrade Mammoths Tank in the same time to get a better anti-air function.
@@duclai2766 Technically, the Mastodon is not exactly the same as the Mammoth Mk. II walker. It doesn't have the same armaments and was extensively redesigned with newer technology. However, GDI reopened the San Diego plant which used to produce the Mk. II in order to build the Mastodon again, and Havoc, who must be positively ancient by this point in the story, was around to cheer it on when it happened.
@@Phoenix-214 They bring back a lot of Walker and Hover units that mostly abbadoned for TW2 with lots of shiny upgrades. I wish EA hadn't f.u.c.k up C&C4 so bad. The units are cool, but the game is totally ****

10:54 And that's the *ONLY* reason to use the Adaptive Armor on the Titans and Mammoth Tanks... To compensate for the slowed fire rate while the armor is active as well as reduce the internal damage caused by the overheated railguns...
@@azzythechristianfurry Well yeah, unless you don't mind the 15% reduced movement speed... For Mammoths, it's fine, they can just back up and let the front armor take the hits... Titans though, different story...
Most people consider them to be "a faction boasting their experimental powerful units somehow got antiquated units", but they should really put the time frame into the thing. Like how BH's Purifier warmech is some sort of prototype for the avatar warmech(Fixed loadout vs commandeering equipment on field), and that warmech is Tier-3 thus makes it experimental forces to deploy for BH commander, but Nod Vanilla would feeling reminiscing, and MoK would say it is outdated outright(heartless cyborg they are). ST made their appearances in KW mostly prior of the 3rd Tib war, so they are indeed using experimental forces of the time, trying to preserve most GDI's powerful arsenal and bridge them for next generation warfare, they don't get to use sonic fancy stuff because they haven't invented it yet. They put a bunker in every vehicle they have because they're paving way to GDI'e next gen infantry-tank cohesion tactic despite being an armor-battalion Tib-Sun GDI in nature. Like a parent learning using smart phone to teach the kid. But after proven "ineffective" against Nod(result of LEGION pushing KW campaign), they got underfunded and discontinued by GDI bureaucracy. And when you put them into pvp skirmishes, their arsenal automatically become antique store when compared with all other factions(even the BH). But in most RTS game, being old school not necessarily meaning being weak, in StarCraft, Goliath and Dragoon are antiquated units, but they still packs up a punch in warfare, and not even necessarily cost-inefficient to amass. So here is your Steel Talon, living shadow of her former self, still capable to conjure nightmare to GDI's foe by bringing fearsome T3 armor battalion, and Tib-Sun like T1 armor push to give a hard reminder. My feeling for them gets influenced by mods like One Vision, so don't take my imprint for this faction as its decree, it's an opinion, not an argument.
First love your work and it makes me so happy to see the series i grew up with get the attention and love it deserves and wish they did a better ending then c&c 4. Second my favorite faction in KW and I love fighting other factions with them. I always had a fascination with mechs my favorite one being the titan. Love your work and hope to see more in the future and at some point about the red alert series. Keep up the fantastic work!!!!!
Never understood why everyone have to put Walkers into their sci fi setting. For the most part they would have been shit for combat i mean they are walking towers and like them you just need to aim for its legs and it will go down. And thats the price of like 2 medium tanks or 4 APC or 8 Tracked scout tanks gone.
PLaying the talons reminded me of playing early game campaigns from Tiberian Sun. Spam those wolverines and titans. If you can't wipe out your enemy. Bury them in wreckage.
Mechs would likely be excellent for Operational applications across rugged terrain but I don't see them being great against tanks in open flat terrain and they would likely be even more vulnerable to anti-vehicular warfare in urban settings.
@@Amadeus8484 if walkers were de0loyed i think their legs would be heavily armored. But that wpuld just slow them down tremendously. Wolverines are more suitable for modern warfare since its not that large and they pack enough power to hunt down guerillas and can survive better than say armored cars
4:27 Are you a C&C Generals player and have used Shockwave mod and played as General Alexander? Then you'll know where the Shatterer Tank actually came from.
Yeah... no matter what lore befell my beloved Steel Talons, I still love them in any, if not all, cases. I'v3 made a MOD years ago to work the _Mastodon_ in TW3-KW, but removed the MARV; if there're any other MODs that did this, please let me know?
Imagine another expansion pack having a Steel Talons campaign and its about them after being reinstated during the Scrin invasion with an influx of TW2 veterans wanting to return to the frontlines making the ST's the literal old geezers club of GDI and climaxing with them being forced to bunker down inside an old TW2 era base with their MARV'S destroyed and finding not only still functioning Mammoth mk2's but the schematics to build them. I'd imagine the other expansions packs had they been made would of added more units to the sub factions further differentiating them from the main faction's units meaning Steel Talons could of literally been the faction with the Tiberium Sun units.
Nah not really. But you can say Steel Talons were born from walker fanatics within GDI that wasn't too happy their walkers got demoted to civilian use.
i like the steel talons fire power but they're too expensive and lacking the normal APC which covers anti infantry and air which is down vote for me. I also don't use zocom because they lack the hard point upgrade for the firehawks or the rail gun upgrade. Standard GDI i find works best for me.
And I always thought they were some sort of group who took the old technology from the firestorm problem and used it afterwards so that essentially they are using scrap
GDI Regular and ZOCOM: "Guys my infantry keep getting destroyed by flamers and Avatars, nooooooo" Steel Talons: "Imma pull a God Machine on this fool."
If you play with another person (who has strong Infantry) in a Team, they could garison there Infantry inside your stuff. But yea i agree it also felt Strange for me.
My one big wish is that they used the Mammoth Walker instead of the MARV as an epic unit. There are a few other things I’d change gameplay/ unit wise, too. 1- Make the Wolverine trained from the Barracks. It’s about the right size, I think. 2- Speaking of the Wolverine... Shotgun. Same range, but give it a shotgun instead. Maybe an auto grenade launcher as an upgrade (that would function as an instant clear move) 3- With the extra space from the Wolverine moving, give them the Predator. While weaker than the Titan, I’d think the ST would still recognize the value of how it would mesh with their own unique units. Maybe even make it like the concept- where it had a pair of rocket pods like the Mammoth. 4- BloodHounds. Add the MRT. 5- If it garrisons infantry, give it more space to garrison. Maybe 1 for the Behemoth, 2 for the Harvester, 3 for the MRT. 6- Cheaper rail gun turrets and Rigs. 7- Increase combat engineer health. He’s wearing armor, I feel like that should buy him some time.
My personal favorite faction despite how much it lacks behind competitively. My favorite strategy is what I'm going to call "Roll & Fix" in skirmishes with multiple foes where I roll over an enemy with an armored regiment, put down a Battle Base alongside MRTs to fix up my Titans and support vehicles, then continue onward.
The steel talons is a walker only army with only the mammoth tank as their tank. Also I don’t get to use the awesome GDI or scrin units in Kane’s wrath and have to fight them with cape wearing nod soldiers.
According to the intelligence database in TW3. Production of the mammoth mk 2 walker was discontinued as part of GDI's military budget cuts. The last one was built on March 12, 2039 at the San Pedro war factory.
@@Jethild I wish the Mammoth mk2s were in use by the steel talons. Let's be honest, the steel talons were only portrayed as failures, and not the biggest threat to nod as Kane declared, because there was no GDI campaign to let them show their worth. GDI focused money on the Blue Zones and researching the secrets of the Tacitus, NOD went into hiding and some worked for GDI. Then they went to work in Yellow Zones, bringing creature comforts and reclamation. Weapons of war were not their focus any longer.

Steel Talons: rigid gameplay, rely on Walker steamroll tactic too much, underestimated the power of infantry and non conventional weapon such as sonic. Zocom: almost as good as GDI (If only they had juggernauts), Sonic mania is a force to be reckon with GDI: the good all rounder and a solid choice from the get go
