There is no need to worry, for Quagsire is a habitual wearer of Mr. Cool's excellent hats, which are know to negate 4x weaknesses. I do hope it has heard your plea, so that it may successfully negotiate with the New Horse Council. Perhaps it may find common ground with Magcargo over their excellent fashion choices.
I am honestly pretty glad steel lost its resistances to ghost and dark. We do not need to live in a timeline where gholdengo is even stronger than it already is
I know many type matchups already don't make sense, but steel resisting ghost and dark always seemed very odd. Resisting psychic already feels a bit off considering bending steel is a common trait of psychic powers.
@@nintendosaber1184 I'd assume it's for a more abstract reason, much like why fairy beats dragon. Ghosts in particular are noutoriously weak to iron in folklore.
57:41 minor correction. Aegislash was amazing in ubers actually! Gen 6 and gen 7. My favorite thing to see was ubers gen 7 july aegislash was top 10 above most cover legendaries. It can go offensive and defensive with sub kings shield. I feel like the only reason it wasnt top 5 was because primal hroudon was running rampid. And rest kyogre was common. (I love your videos though)
Steel is my favorite type, almost incidentally because I just HAPPEN to like so many steel types. Corviknight, Metagross, and Aegislash are all in my top 5, with Corviknight being number 1
From what I remember, one of the things that contributed to Zacian-C's ban from Gen 8 Ubers was the discovery that Kyurem White could easily deal with Zacian-C's checks, especially as it had been given Freeze Dry to easily dispatch mons like Quagsire. And in turn, Zacian-C could easily deal with Kyurem White's checks. This led to Zacian-C and Kyurem White becoming a formidable duo.
I hope Quagsire and Macargo can quickly resolve their differences, for I am concerned that Macargo will somehow be able to survive Quagsire's 4x effective STAB attacks.
Corviknight can also pp stall a rocker in a SR vs defog war due to pressure,a trait shared with zapdos and moltres but corvi isn't boots reliant due to its typing
Honestly my best Skarmory play i've experienced is with the goofy HP Ground set - not Atk or speed invested - led into an opposing Skarmory lead. I clicked HP Ground, they switch to Magneton, get chunked, they T-Bolt and don't kill, I get a free kill on their Magneton with 2 HP Grounds
@@tecul1 usually I don't tend to stay in with my Skarm if the opponent opens one, usually it results in a Magneton switch, I just figured i'd try it and see what happens. I just got lucky that time, that's all
I mean, I don't think steel was really nerfed. Yeah, it lost Ghost and Dark resistance, but at the same time gained Fairy resistance, which I would argue is way way more impactful, to the point that I see it as a buff overall
And here I thought I was the only person on the planet earth to run Water Pulse on Jirachi lol. The the surprise factor is always so funny. I ain’t the greatest Pokémon player by any means, but I’ve caught a few people off guard with just the simple coverage of water, and when the confusion happens it’s icing on the cake
This ivdeo is truely a true gem, but you know whats a good deal? Joining the patrion like the F.E.A is saving too! The deal is a real steel! With thease great deals one day we can bring justice to forgetton evolutions such as Raichu. Thank you for the great content Mr Cool.
@@DeckKnight Water’s still turning the tides today, ya big drip. It’s great at sponging up hits and fishing for kills, not to mention the treasures one can find just by diving through their vast Movepools. Sure, there are other fish in the sea, but Water’s fluidity keeps it a current threat.
I was running a physical offense Gen 3 team for a bit and I swear the ladder at the time was filled with HP Ground Skarm. I ran into it like 5 times one day.
I was hoping to see klefki in an Ubers format, but maybe I’m mistaken. I thought it abused prankster and it’s good defensive typing up in the higher tiers at one point.
1:19:31 I don’t think it should be illegal to block defog, but the complete immunity to statuses is what irks me. If it were just defog I’d see no issue with gholdengo
Rock was never a defensive type it just had defensive pokemon of that type. Proven by how bad they are at being defensive pokemon DUE to their typing. Heck rock even makes steel a bad defensive typing when combined allá aggron
If we're talking about "too good for ______, not good enough for _______" purgatory re: Genesect -- Monotype. Bugs have longstanding suffering (as is well documented), and he'd be a godsend for that strategy. But he's also part steel, and steel already has a strong enough backbone that letting him loose in monotype means letting him loose in Steel teams, so... #rip
Metagross needs a new form. Imagine if electric/steel to match its shiny variant. Then add levitate (mega metagross floats and in the Destiny Deoxys movie, a metagross is seen floating many times) give shift gear as well as electric coverage.
Steel is an incredibly powerful defensive type in terms of overall resistances vs weaknesses. But, its weaknesses are (or at least were, fighting seems a bit less prominent nowadays) pretty significant ones. Close Combat and Earthquake used to be fairly common coverage moves on physical attackers before the current gen dropped close combat's availability, so being weak to both was pretty bad. You can see it in most of the best ones being pokemon that either negate (e.g. steel flying types negating ground and also making fighting neutral, steel ghost types negating fighting, or Flash Fire negating fire) one of the weaknesses, or at least balance them out (e.g. Scizor/Genesect only having to play around a fire weakness because bug balances out its fighting and ground weaknesses), grass/steel types kind of worked if they were physically defensive since fire was probably the least significant of steel's weaknesses, being a fairly low distribution coverage move, and even if a pokemon did have special fighting coverage, chances are it was something the player hated having to have to rely on. On the other hand, most pure steel types are kind of underwhelming, and adding it to a bad defensive type like rock or ice type generally just makes it even worse instead of balancing it out. Something that's also probably worth noting is that steel is the only type in the game vulnerable to being trapped by an ability in singles (except for the steel/ghosts anyway >_>).
My boring ass favourite Steel-type and favourite Pokémon overall is Skarmory. Love the design since forever and how it just does its job every damn Gen. Truly old reliable. I chuckle every time you bring up Gen 8 Zacian lmao.
Mega Mawile wasn't that good in Gen 6 ubers because it couldn't do anything to Primal Groudon, which was on essentialy every team, also got hit hard by Primal Kyogre, Arceus Ground and Extreme killer with EQ coverage, and probably more I am forgetting.
1:11:22 "That's rough as Guts" That makes me wonder how good Zamazenta-Crowned would be if it still had Rusted Shield as the required item, but had Guts as its ability instead of Dauntless Shield 🤔
Awful, you won't have a consistent way to get burned since you are already holding an item. I guess ur immune to burn but if Zama has guts then opponents are more wary of throwing will o wisp.
@@jelly2882 I was more so thinking possible Rest sets I think but it’s not like having a status absorber like that would be a bad thing imo if you don’t have something like Gliscor to take it. Idk, was just a passing thought lol
@@creeperman1295 He can still be a status soaker normally with rest even without guts so there's that. If it had guts again opponents would be weary of throwing status moves in fear of activating it's guts ability so in this case Zama acts as a status deterer rather than soaker? Could be good mind games What your thinking could work in a doubles format where you can will o wisp ur own Zama, it could potentially be strong but i feel like he would still be outclassed by other guts users since you know, they can actually hold a decent item + in VGC restricted formats you'll much rather have a different legendary that can do damage immediately rather than a legend that needs another support to activate. Now if normal zama had guts without the need to hold rusted shield or still get the defence boost + guts effect then that's straight up busted.
I struggle to believe Mr. Cool was not sponsored by by Goldengo to advertise it to the community as reasonable. Could Old Money have exploited the instability within the Horse Council to divert attention from itself put a new ploy in place? Something may be afoot here folks.
I think steel is THE best type in the game. The type isn’t broken, it’s just that steel type Pokémon are broken. If you can put one of these on your team, and you don’t, you’re essentially playing Pokemon on Hard Mode.
This didn't cross my mind as I wasn't paying too much of that kinda close attention & only saw it after you said the series is finally over, so then I went to the playlist to check if I've seen all. & the thing I happened to notice is this video's thumbnail, in particular doesn't have the drawn Pokémon. It got me perplexed since it was posted nearly a month after the Dark-types video, which began the doddles for thumbnails going forward & has continued since *except* for Steel-types. Idk what happened... but this is insa- Maybe the thumbnail was made way beforehand & you just used that instead of creating a new one. I care about this aspect even as small as it may seem to nitpick out it's cuz Steel's probably my favourite type & looking back, I'd have liked that little extra attention you put to other videos from type series b4 having watched this, especially if they were among the many Steel Pokémon Im a big fan of Lucario, Metagross, Corviknight, etc., any of them could've come out looking FIIIRRE. I doubt you'd actually go back & change it now just cuz I said it, but it's smth to consider & keep in mind y'know.
Steel types have the most resistances in the game. That means they can take most of the moves in the game without breaking a sweat. That’s pretty metal.
what about that poison/steel guy from the last gen? wasn’t it good? i played with it in doubles and it seemed decent (as it does everything in doubles tbh)
I still don't understand why steel ever resisted ghost and dark. Like, was that really necessary for balancing reasons? I don't get it, but I guess it still makes more sence than fairy resisting bug
Steel used to resist dark because metal is essential in many things that keep crime in check. It used to resist Ghost because the idea is that most Metal machines are non-living and can’t feel fear.
gen 4 jirachi should have been banned. even smogon themselves admited that it is so unpredictable that there isn't a pokemon that can counter all of its sets.
I feel like Steel is overrated defensively. It resists the types no one really uses. Its weak to the most common types and neutral to other common types. Defensively, what does Steel resist that’s good, besides Rock and Dragon?
Ice and Fairy, plus the Poison/Toxic immunity. Steel types would suck if they could get hit by Toxic. They already have problems with passivity and would get eaten up by Toxic without that immunity.
Imagine getting primal ground on and kyogre, awesome looking very powerful legendaries. Then for gen 4 remakes you get the origin forme dialga and palkia, underwhelming ugly pokemon. Why didn’t they just do the primal style again?
Steel feels insanely overturned considering that as of gen 2 steel resisted 11 types, with the second most number of resistances of any type being fire at 5, half the amount for a type that isn't too defensively sound due to 3 common weaknesses, the gap got shorter in gen 6 with steel at 10 and fire at 6, but it still seems insane just how much better steel is, especially since steel also has an immunity. I think steel should have only resisted poison, not resisted bug and not resisted grass, it'd still have 9 resistances of gen 9, but steels lead wouldn't be so overwhelming
They could just make a new type that directly hits three of the best all around types and hit them for super effective. Like it would hit water, fairy, and steel for super effective damage and resist them as well. It'd also resist Ghost. While it would be weak to bug, psychic, rock, and poison. It would also be resisted by bug, psychic, and rock. I think Ground, Fairy, Steel, Ghost, and Water are all a little too strong. For Ground, it's basically a much better fighting (+ Fairy is straight up better against Dark) as it hits a lot more for neutral along with hitting the hard to hit poison and electric type for SE damage.
