There is something wrong with me. I've been listening to this iso track 2x to 5x per day, for the last couple of weeks. Not only that, but the guitar riffs bounce around in my head all day too. Bernard and Rainey? Wow, man. Just, Wow. Oh, yeah: headphones, as loud as possible.
We were just listening to this album ( my original vinyl, '70s). My husband who's also a drummer got up to read the cover to see who the drummer was because he liked what he heard. He'll get a kick out of this. Thanks for sharing 👍🎶
Been playing the guitar part for awhile, now going to try to learn Chucks part on my new 1994 5 string Ken Smith - Chuck Rainey bass that my brother just sold me for half price. Guitar - 40 yrs, bass - rookie.
What is interesting is that it sounds like several takes layered into this track were not actually ever on the release, so that indicates these are the original tracks plus alternate takes as well. Listen to the rhythm guitar on this during the choruses, and then listen closely to the original release. You'll notice the difference between the strumming patterns.
Amazing! Thank you for posting! Just a friendly suggestion: You may want to mention that this also includes the guitar solos as that will likely garner a lot more views. Although, you may not want to advertise that for copyright reasons...?
...if you want to hear what “the pocket” is, I suggest you queue up to 1:28-1:36 and hear LC’s rhythm guitar chopping. You swear he’s dragging it. He is not. This, is The Pocket.
Walter Becker is credited. Criminally underrated guitarist. The rhythm work on this is stellar. Larry Carlton said although he recorded Josie over and over again the opening riff is probably Becker because it's a strat and he only played the 335.
It actually sounds like the rhythm section loses their footing for a bar around the 3:30 mark. This was surely disregarded in light of the rock-solid nature of the rest of the take. Interesting, though. It's fascinating to hear pro musicians recover and reestablish their footing so effortlessly "on the fly".
No way Man! You know you can slow RU-vid videos down, and they stay in pitch, right? It’s just like eating an elephant. Take it one bite at a time. You’ll get there!
