@@mrp4u Time does fly my friend - First time I heard Steely Dan was in that hot Summer of 1976 - When a cool dude came to pick his girl up from a local Store - Ha! -I could hear the music long before I saw anything or any one - Ha! - He was wearing sawn off jeans • cheese cloth shirt • baseball sneakers & That amazing music like his theme tune playing as he pulled up at the side of me ! - I could see my reflection in his mirrored Aviators as he lent backwards pulling his stylish scooter onto its stand ! - That great sound was the Dan ? - Yeah Steely Dan coming from the guys radio/cassette player thingy that was half hanging out of the guys open glove box (yeah a glove box on a Vespa) - And that sound of Steely Dan was being played in all its glory - The guy turned down the volume a touch while putting his leather 'Driving' gloves into th box & said to me " Keep your eye on it kid" ! - As he dissapeared into the store ! I was having a really good look at this scooter while I was alone with It - And it really was some amazing machine ! - The Dan was still playing ! - When he came back out of the store hand in hand with Saturday Girl Elaine - Ha! - It had to be her she was gorgeous with an attitude to match ! - She was lovely - The Music was still playing as they climbed aboard this amazing italian machine ! - Elaine sat pillion almost horizontal looking towards the Sun ? - Laid against the the flip flop backrest - The guy nodded & Elaine smiled at me - Before setting off - Hearing Steely Dan fade into the distance ! - Into the Sun ! Haha ! Little did I know it but my life had just changed ? -15 Then I was - Been a fan of Steely Dans ever since then ! - that accidental meeting ! - Not only the Dan did those two influence ! - But I have also owned a couple Scooters too ! - Of which I also played my Steely Dan tapes out of the Glove box also ! -Time really does fly ! - I' m 60 this Summer ! How I really wish I could go back in time ! - I really do ! Thankyou for sharing this amazing video & also the other people for the infomation via the other comments Thankyou ! S.B. British Isles

I think it's the other way around. Why don't we just acknowledge them for who they are? They are the Coens of films and these guys are the Dans of music. Two different disciplines of arts. Besides Steely Dan was the first one to being àdventurously creative before the Coens. No arguments as to them being national treasure. They both are.

...I learned something through following Steely Dan's live's: I always thought that studio versions are the best possible achievement (with a few exceptions), but I found that SD live improved quite a few of their song repertoire rather than diminishing it... some of their songs, that I always felt being a bit 'boring', compared with others, improved hugely, when played live well, like 'Babylon Sisters', 'Kid Charlemagne', 'Green Flower Street' (Donald solo) or even the 'Green Earring'... although they always put so much effort into perfection (Donald was obsessed by that), those songs win, when played live (with really good musicians, of course).. in short: Donald's and Walter's heritage will last long... pretty long... long enough that I'm sure, I won't live to experience the acknowledgement, that they deserve...they are timeless, and will be recognized for that, when I'm gone for long already...

Guess what kids, in 1972 there were these places we called record stores , pinball rooms , pool halls, and if you wanted to go see these badass musical groups play a concert of any kind ,you either went to one of these stores and purchased with these nasty sweaty objects of rectangled paper that at the time we called cash ( that now it’s just well you use instead of a catalog page in the outhouse , but anyway) unless you wanted to show up and risk there being a ticket to buy , ( a dollar or two cheaper than the store ),wich was rare there wasn’t one available but anyway , a new record on the other hand you went to one of these stores and purchased, or you didn’t get one local anyway, you could go to any magazine and there was always an add in the back page that you could join something called a “record club” pay .10 cent a record on a trust basis ( wich is how you got your first ten favorites because I know NO one who actually sent the remaining balance , but in 1972 when I was 13 I was playing my choice of any great wwII era-1970’s “gotleib” pinball machine ( wich turned over at 9999 at a dime a game ,3 for a quarter , entertaining for 16 hrs for a dollar sometimes the album “can’t buy a thrill” started playing 1st song - side 1 ( the guy at the counter being an actual disc jockey by default), “do it again “ “dirty work”, “ kings “and, mid nite cruiser!!!!! , it was my request every weekend from that point right along with wishbone ash , Humble pie , Alice Cooper schools out ( I think ) but ANYWAY but hey ? SO WHAT!

Well dang, what an unexpected treat! Letting the music take the fore, executed with brilliant timing, seasoned with brief commentary and interviews. Delicious way for me to start my day and maybe even my year. The Dan is collective joie de vivre. I think Becker would give it a nod.

RIP Mr Becker. It's a shame that you finally came forward with great chops. It turns out that you probably could have played the solos on all of these great tunes. Perhaps somewhat diminished from the talent you recruited but nonetheless good. Can't help but feel sadden by the fact that you "outsourced" your place in history.

I guess I had always known about Steely Dan before knowing about them, because of Do It Again and Rikki Don’t Lose That Number being on the radio that was always on in our house, but finally came to them in 1996 when the best of Then and Now (with the carhenge sculpture on by Jim Reinders) appeared in a sale in Woolworths... I was 24 then so still terribly worried about cool and not cool, and this coffee table music seemed ineffably uncool. But I LOVED it. I didn't want the coda of FM to end. I love repetition and it was hypnotic. And as a jazz fan the connection finally clicked. One of the coolest uncool bands EVER. Its beyond however, me why the band has continued, but I guess its none of my f***in business what the two of them agreed if one of them wasn't around.

I still "use" mine all the time, especially this one!

@@kbrewski1 I think mine is buried in the garage. I wish they had preformed their lost song the second arrangement on this DVD.

@@mike4769 I actually saw them play Second Arrangement at the one off Rarities concert at the Beacon in NYC in 2011, the only time they ever played it. Fantastic and surreal. Flew halfway across the country for just that show without knowing exactly what they would play. They also played You Got the Bear, This All Too Mobile Home, Dr Wu, Pearl of the Quarter and many other gems.
