Here is the reassembly of the rest of the tilt steering column. My parts showed up on Sunday afternoon so decided to get this column completed. I did make some minor mistakes, primarily with the installation of the upper column bearings but ultimately it worked out. I think the compression of the lock plate helped make sure the lower bearing race was completely seated. I tried to be as thorough as I could. In hindsight I should of had someone holding the camera for me so I could have filmed where I needed 2 hands, which was most of it. Hope this helps others out there. Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

@@millstonejeepworx I have ran into a bit of a snag after assembling my column. It seems the wheel lock pin doesn’t protrude high enough to engage the locking plate. Any suggestions? Thanks

I haven’t even added the plate yet the pin doesn’t even protrude past the plastic housing

@benmann4247 What position is your lock cylinder in? Locking pin doesn't poke out unless lock cylinder is turned completely in off position and at point where key is released. When lock cylinder is in start or on/run position it will be down.

Awesome instructional video. Have mine apart right now, several parts in hand and coming. Working on a 1978 CJ5. Question? My column is missing the key release lever? Were there possibly any 1978 manufactured w/o that lever. I think it is more likely the previous owner somehow disabled it. Anyway, are there any sources you can lead me to that might have that part and spring? I haven't been able to find one. Again, thanks so much, these videos must take a bunch of time and effort.

Wonder if the 87 YJ column is the same?. I know I’m missing the rod that connects to the dimmer switch… it fell out one day going down the road and went threw a rust hole in the damn floor pan. FML right! So I’ll need to source one of those…

Hello, this has been very helpful as I am rebuilding mine. I do have a question about where the little half moon spring clip goes? you move this clip at 3:13 minute into the video

never mind i figured it out. It is the Rack tension spring for the 6 tooth rack gear.

Sorry to hear about that. Did you check your wiper switch? Nothing in the steering column related to that other than the ignition switch providing power to all the components.

No I didn't part 2 completed the assembly of the column. I have the column installed in my CJ just have not installed a steering wheel or horn yet.

This would have been an outstanding video IF you would have included the upper bearings installation. I'm wrestling with my 84 CJ7 and that seems to be where there is an issue. It seems no one does a good job of showing the installation.
