You modular synth guys are completely crazy! The more I watch of this stuff the more it amazes me! Wrires, flashing lights, syntheses. And now modular jazz. Brilliant!
He is for sure one of the most interesting modular dudes. Just listen to his 90s techno productions... they are massive BANGERS, and now he is doing this funky chunky jazzy modular techno.... Proves that techno derived from jazz and funk music!
how would one keep all of this in a scale or even in chromatic, or is there really no wrong note? im getting into modular specifically for generative melodic pieces
Yeah, quantize everything. And then run an arpeggiator on top for melodic interesting results that are in key! There are also some good digital affordable sequencers out there, like the 16 step Erica pico module. I feel that having a base to jam on is a good thing in order to maintain flow.
Modular synthesis is so fun and satisfying - a huge time waster - but also so damn frustrating when you do not remember what the exact patch was to get that sound again. You should always have a recorder nearby to at least get a record of what you did. I wish there was a snapshot button for a whole rack where it would remember all the patches and knob settings.
the whole modular is the drum synth, there's no drum synth as such, its just sequencers, VCOs, VCFs, VCAs etc with a couple of dedicated modules for kick, snare etc.
ah ok kick synth snare synth en hi hat sampler modules then thanks for the hint :) you know wich ones? still not sure about your answer cause i see a machine what he uses for sequences i think thats not a modular one.
there's no sampler modules, its all analogue synthesis.. everything is modular apart from the Moog Voyager synth .the sequencers are Doepfer A155 modules....Steevio
