The war is still on so he is still fighting for Germany and she has fled to England. The book - he was reading in the movie - has her London address for him to find her after the war.

Yes KatrinaBann, but in the movie is on the end we can heard the sound of an incoming bomber, everybody are runing into hiding, but Stefan stays in the office...very sad :-(

Iva Novotná i refuse to believe he died! My heart cannot bear it! He must live and try to do something against the holocaust or give information to the english so he will end up a free man. So that he can finally meet his kid and marry his girl. (Halfway through the movie i started to cry because i was certain one of them would die, it just seemed so logical! And now with an open ending i can believe that they did indeed get married.) 😂
