I was having trouble getting this to work and after a bit of head scratching and a lot of fiddling about realised even if the midi-meter is working 0:53 that may not be 'all you have to do'. In my case I had to have Midi-Thru active from the edit-preferences menu and also the midi thru filter - note - inactive. What the hell midi-thru has to do with it is beyond me since my midi keyboard is set to local-off. Having got it working with a midi track I then tried creating an instrument track with a vst instrument with the input also set to 'all midi inputs', and guess what - that worked as well so it can be done either way around Anyway thanks for the vid. It got me there in the end.

i got everything working, THANKYOU!!! And holy crap cubase ai is so much better than garageband (i know its not the best but I'm a beginner and its still a step up)

I am using Halion 6, my midi keyboard signal goes but does not sound: / md-audio keystation 49 midi keyboard .. my sound card steinberg..FL Studio also sounds on my Halion midi keyboard, but when I open it, the program does not sound from the keyboard, unfortunately: / so in other programs When you open Halion, there is a sound from the midi heart ..

You can still hear different instruments if you use a normnal keyboard? Cause its only piano, and I cant really hear it when i play it back

Very helpful video, man. Thank you. Two questions for ya. 1) I noticed that you do not have the monitor on any of those instruments and you are getting sound. I have Komplete Kontrol S49 and I finally figured out the only way to get any sound was for me to turn on the monitor function. Is there a way around that. 2) When I click the keys in the vst itself with my mouse it's pretty loud but when I use the komplete kontrol it's much quieter. Can you help me set it up better?

Hi, I connected my keyboard through a MIDI cable to a Lambda Lexicon. I can see that it gets a signal from the keyboard (the meter goes up every time I hit the keyboard) but I hear no voice. When I record- it looks like it recorded, but again- no voice. Can you please help me and advise? Thanks!

Okay, so what if your keyboard ISN'T just a plug and play? Having a hard time finding the answer this question.

but how to change that instruments from our controller? like if we press a button and its switches to Midi Track num 1, then we press a button and it goes to midi track 2?? so that we can change intruments from our controller it self. no need to use mouse

I did excacly the same but…at the moment I see only the left indicator lit with no sound hitting te keys…selecting a instrument on halion…I still can’t get sound or more indicators,only still the left one! Only if I play piano with the mouse,there is sound… If I open Halion seperately,my midi keyboard,do reacts with sound in time… In cubase I can see wich keys I hit on the screen,but no sound…🥲 Anyone please? When I hit a key on my keyboard that is anything but the white and black keys (for instance, the play button or stop button) all that happens is a high pitched tone. The buttons aren't doing what they're supposed to be doing. Any way to fix this?

is there a way to assign different sounds to different keys without changing channels? let's say that I want C keys to play snare, and D to play bass drum...

Looks like you assigned each instrument to channel 1. Why not have an individual channel per instrument? Wouldn't you generally set the drums to channel 10?

Hi I"m using Cubase AI4 that came with my Yamaha product. I'm trying to play a midi file but I get no sound at all. Audio recording via mic is fine and clear.. but why do I not get sound with midi? It is playing but no sound. I've looked at the device setup and it looks correct. what else can i do?

Why would you put the sounds on midi channels as opposed to instrument channels?

This is my very first DAW, so forgive my incompetence...but why is it that when I open VST Instruments, I only see a drum and a synthesizer option? I don't see a piano or any other voice. How do I get those? Do they cost anything?

Turns out Cubase 10 Pro does not like my Arturia Keystep 32 (no midi coming in) even though settings in studio setup are ok. Especially infuriating considering Ableton, Sonar and Reason DAWs on the same computer have no problem with this MIDI keyboard. My Novation keyboard works ok with Cubase but I just need my keystep to work for ergonomic reasons. I was finally going to give Cubase a shot after having paid for years and years for the license (incl. updates) without ever using it (silly me). This problem has already stopped me from exploring Cubase further; turns out there are plenty of folks having similar problems with Arturia KBs on Cubase with a possible solution in a rather arcane USB setting in motherboard bios which I am not going to touch given all my other USB peripherals work just fine and I like to keep it that way. Imagine the sound of expensive software being smashed against the wall!

I get to where you're at and everything is fine, inputs/outputs, ASIO drivers. And no damn sound. youtube and everything else works but nothing when using my launchkey mini in cubase

Hello, I have the Cubase 8 from yamaha thr10 bundle. It doesn't have those plug ins. I need the drum sets, cool pianos, synths. i have a midi keyboard + guitar and interface. So basically, I'm asking for an advice: Cubase 8 Elements is only 50 bucks. Is it woth it? or do i need to buy EZDrummer etc? My aim is to play bass over my midi key and have very realistic sounds, and program the beats and the durms with again like-real sounds as well as maybe some piano and some synths like Pink Floyd to give the depth for the guitar i like the amp and i m not looking for plugins there. I want to produce my own music. should i pay 50 bucks to steinberg for an update? help me out

Title says "USB keyboard set-up…" and he starts the video by already having the keyboard plugged in and set up… Most of us are here to get past the first step of getting that White bar to go up and down in response to Contact between your external device, a keyboard and to your daw on your computer. BUT NOPE. Lets skip a few chapters and make a video like everybody else. Heck do I need to take an actual crashcourse in how to plug in a keyboard in your computer, so you can either play up from the soundbank on the keyboard in your daw on your computer, or play the soundbank in your daw on your computer and have the sound coming out on your keyboard. Or the third example, simply be able to use your external keyboard as the device you want to use for playing and recording sounds that are already in your daw??? or is it just me? A video like that would be appreciated. I would make it myself if I only knew how it works, but I dont and that is why I am here in the first place...

IT'S JUST LIKE CUBASE TO ONLY ARM THE TRACKS BUT NOT SHOW ANYTHING ABOUT PUTTING A SET RYTHEM ON EACH TRACK. YOU ONLY SHOWED IF YOU WERE HOOKED UP TO A KEYBOARD. WHAT ABOUT SETTING UP A AUTOMATED DRUM RYTHEM OR ANYTHING AUTO MATED OR DRUM LOOPS ESPECIALLY FOR FAST DRUMMING THAT A KEYBOARD WILL NOT STAND UP TO. THANKS FOR SHOWING US THE ARMING OF THE TRACK THOUGH.
