Freedom of speech at its best, done with intelligence. I may or may not agree with Stellan, but the way he thinks and speaks holds himself must be respected. Brilliant Actor too.
@@greglaprade7507 Only a fool would resort to putting their faith in something supernatural just cause they can't find the answers yet. Science is explaining more and more questions every day, you just need to have some patience.
@@nanashi2146 Not at the moment no. But as history have shown us, give us time and we'll find most answers. And to just chalk something up to "God did it" when you're stuck with a really difficult question, then you're taking an easy way out.
As a very biased man. He just said all Christians are ignorant and that whether you think it or not is a very biased and incorrect thing to say. It's like if I said all Atheists are angry bitter malcontents, that wouldn't be a very open-minded thing to say would it?
@@imbluz Exactly. The bible doesn't begin to even try to make the claim that it tells all the answers. So many mysteries of God are not revealed to us this side of the afterlife.
Completely perfect way to end it. We may not be able to understand everything, but we can try to do so, and let's not inject the most simple answer in some of the biggest questions we can ask our selves. Bootstrap Bill knows the deal.
@@greglaprade7507 He never said the Bible attempts to answer every question. He said that we shouldn't inject the most simple answer "God did it" whenever we're stuck without an answer. Eventually we will find the answer to it, as we always have.
But he does oversimplify religion in this interview, though. I don't disagree with everything he says, but he seems to think that there's only one version of religion, that leaves no room for wonder and mystery
A lot of the "culture war" over religion is due to the fact that the voices of radicals, nutcases, and fools carry much farther than most rational ones. When's the last time you saw a headline that read: "Famous Person Has Balanced Worldview, Says Reasonable Thing?"
@@greglaprade7507 More like he's mocking organized religion taking tax money to indoctrinate children into a belief they haven't chosen by their own, but rather by their parents. And how its leaders manipulate their followers to commit horrible things. Religion can be practiced without some big church telling you what to do.
I wholeheartedly agree with what he says at the end. No matter what the innate ability of a human allows for, we will all die with a pathetic fraction of the answers behind the mysteries of life. I’ve got to say though, everything’s a lot more interesting when you don’t have all the answers. When you know, the anticipation and curiosity about that particular thing is gone.
I adore Stellan since many years back and after seeing this i adore him even more..he is a smart man and i agree with him (my opinion) thanks for sharing this video :)
@MsAKSfan -I too believe in a creator, you say! Sry but i cant hear Stellan saying that, form what part of this intervju did you get that he believes in a creator?
He nails it. Petty, ready made package created 3,000 years ago. It is a human way to try yo understand mysteries that we never shall. "God" is what we call our ignorance and a way to try to explain things. It's not that simple and truth really is stranger than fiction.
Well, I do believe in God, but I do agree that there is very little in the universe we understand and probably will never understand. However, believing in God or having a since of spirituality doesn't mean someone is un-educated in the ways of science nor does it mean they reject. Believing in God doesn't make you ignorant, rejecting to learn about the world around you is what makes oyu ignorant. Alot of Atheist (not all) sometimes see themselves as the only ones one are curious about the world and wish to explore life, which isn't true. Many people who believe in God are just as curious and wish to make their passion and dreams a reality. We are all humans
@Therese Eriksson Atheists deny the forensic science that shows Jesus died and rose again. Pro "choice" advocates deny the scientific video evidence that shows tiny human beings backing away from the tools of the abortionists. Now the pagan regressives are denying the science that proves there are 2 and only 2 genders.
@Therese Eriksson Compare the written accounts and number of eyewitnesses to the resurrection to say the current witch hunt going on in the U.S. congress. Check out a book or videos by worldclass cold case detective named J. Warner Wallace called Coldcase Christianity. Never heard of forensics?
@Therese Eriksson Intriguing the depths you go to to deny truth. You read that book quickly! Wow, you are a genius! Amazingly you read Wallace's book and responded back in only 17 minutes!
I find Skarsgard's comments particularly insightful and striking. It is a fantastic way of summarizing what many an agnostic has struggled to get across to certain intensely religious proselytizers: Life is too complex and beautiful to be attributed to such a laughably simplistic answer as "Oh, a magical being in the sky made us." People look at figures like Thor and Zeus as magical and fantastic, but, fundamentally, how are these archaic belief systems so different from the Christian deity?
@@headshotfisken104 First, there are absolutely still pagan groups that worship both the Norse and classical Greek pantheons. They may be fringe, but "nobody is worshipping" them is categorically false. Second, it took time and significant sociocultural changes to make them agree that they are fictional. Greeks in the 3rd bce were just as certain of the reality of their gods as a modern Christian would be of the Judeo-Christian god. There is every possibility that a millennia from now, if humanity remains a "thing" people will speak of abrahamic gods much in the same way as we do of the gods of antiquity. So I say again, there isn't much distinguishing between the two. There is as little evidence to support the existence of Freya and Hera as there is of 'God.'
If he were a woman, and younger, I'd ask him to marry me. Of course, he would be a her. You get the picture. Always loved this man. I saw him, years ago, in Good Evening Mr. Wallenberg and knew he was an amazing actor then. I love that he, and his fellow Swede, Bjorn Ulvaeus (ABBA), are both Atheists. And I love that they aren't afraid to speak their minds either.
I know but I won´t be jealous of his wife (my heart is big), I promise lol And he could be a good friend for my husband he likes Stellan a lot. Talking seriously, my husband´s cousin knows Stellan and has told us he´s really a nice person
I just came across this treasure and I´ve never been more in love in an argumentation about a reason not to believe in god. Incredible intelligent man💚
I totally agree with him. Everyone should here the alternatives, but if you choose the easy part, the petty god, you miss out so much of the reality! 2:13 is brilliant and - I love Bamse! :D
Dorianflawz Both :P The interviewer speaks Norwegian, Stellan speaks Swedish. The languages are very similar, so there's no problem understanding each other :)
Not really. He's acting like just because Bush said God appointed him there's only two options, when it's very apparent there's a third option that Bush was lying and there is a God and Bush will have to answer to Him one day for lying and using God's name to justify his actions.
what an amazing question to ask on a chat show. Excellent response done in a serious tone. American chat shows would immediately jump into the gutter and provide a pointless vapid answer. Skavlan and Stellan!
Yeah me too, but Stellan forgot the third alternative: God exists and Bush thinks he was placed by God to be president. Personally I think it was also the rich and mighty behind the scenes, that put Bush were he was.
It's interesting I have not seen Norwegian / Swedish political discussions before (well I speak English so I suppose that's not surprising). Certainly far more rational than anything of the American persuasion. Though if people think he's particularly brave I would not say so, it's not very controversial to have an atheist perspective in Nordic countries. I think this is exemplified by his tacit approval of government run schools without any critical thought applied whatsoever.
@MsAKSfan Allthough sweden is a fairly small place we dont accualy all know each other, so i dont really know what he means. :) But i take it that hes talking about the scientific knowledge that we have won for our self in the natural world, whitout the help of a deity. I mean hes talking about the mystory of life and that he dont want to diminish the mystory by pointing to ”the man behind the curtain” saying -yeah he/she/it did it.
I do believe strongly in God, but I have no use for religion, which is based on power, control, fear, and hiding/legitimizing the criminality of its leaders. I have a personal relationship with God and have felt his presence more in nature, yoga, and meditation than I ever did on a kneeler in a stone church and reciting very generic prayers out of a prayer book. Stellan is not wrong.
If anyone has worked in a government body , you know there is The Act .....then the Regulations, then Policy and Procedures, then Operational Directives ....and so on and so forth ..... You can't just read sola scriptura and overlook the Homilies and teachings of the early Church Father's ....the Dogmas and how they came about .the writings of the approved Saints....doctors of the Church ....Too bad he didn't ask for guidance on how to study because then he would have found "love". He would have found it from the standpoint of Divine Providence, not human misunderstandings
