All the Serato fanbois here saying it's on top lol. Just listen to the vocals on Boom Boom Boom. VDJ has been doing stems since 2020 and stems 2.0 is clearly the best at this point in time
VDJ still on top especially on vocals. But man, djay pro got the huge improvement on stems and I think stem processing is fast and not stress your computer. Kudos!
Definitely DJay 5.0 is definitely a big improvement... But Rekordbox needs a lot of work. Just need to get DJay working with my Rane Four and it will be the perfect backup DJ software to Serato or VDJ
I'm shocked how good the tech has gotten, but Djay has got to be the best by far. But they're all pretty usable especially if you're mixing it with another track.
Great improvements on all software, but to me Serato DJ Pro is the best here. Of course I'm spoiled, as I'm a Serato DJ Pro user but looking at my detailed knowledge of sound from the past 35 years, I definitely have to give Serato the golden crown here.
Virtual DJ is unsurpassed in Stems separation. I've done tons of tracks and it just hits the mark every time. You can actually go into the settings for stems in VDJ and tweak the settings, you can't do that on any other software. You can hate all you want on Virtual DJ, but the company has their shit together. It works with almost every single controller on the market. Once a controller comes out, they have a mapping for it within a week or 2.
I use VDJ for all my mixes, DJ 5 is also really good, but the Beatgrid in DJ5 is pure Witchcraft, nothing to touch it, get the old disco tunes on and throw them at it, they lock on like s\\t on a blanket.
@@thatchinaboi1 Ummm what feature does Serato have that Virtual DJ doesn't? I've used Serato since the very first breakout box they released like 15-20 years back to play clubs here in NYC (Its sitting in my garage now) and ever since recently switching to VDJ, I feel like I was playing with a toy all my life. Now I will agree, for the simple DJ who just does the average stuff, serato will suffice. But once you want to expand to remixing live with macro cue points and the the million of other custom features VDJ has, you'll quickly realize its time to upgrade.
SUPER USEFULL! I was thinking to try or switch from Traktor to djay Pro and I think you've just given me some push to do it! Rekordbox has still a mountain to climb (and still waiting for life on Mars if Traktor is ever going to adapt). 1st Track djay Pro + VDJ > Serato > Rekordbox 2nd Track djay Pro + VDJ + Serato (improved) > Rekordbox 3rd Track djay Pro > VDJ + Serato > Rekordbox
@@ferfzero4333yeah, but I like the fact that I pay for Serato once and am done. I own it outright. I like DJ Pro AI, and I paid for the year, but if Serato comes out with an iPad version, I’m done with anything else. My laptop runs Serato just fine, but I prefer the iPad. I go to my paid-for licensed Serato on desktop and laptop when not using DJ Pro on the iPad. RekordBox interface on iPad plain sucks, plus it costs more than DJ pro subscription, and there is no perpetual license. I’m glad I bought Serato outright before Pioneer bought them, because I’m sure they will change to subscription.
I think Djay is now on par with VDJ. But VDJ has some hefty hardware requirements. I am told the Djay can do max quality stems on an intel i9 MBP. VDJ requires Apple silicon on Macs. And add to that Djay’s iOS support. I think we have a winner. 💥
I saw a 2018 comparison video of Rekordbox and VDJ and 6 years later the Rekordbox skin has not changed. Virtual DJ is likely to be redesigned a second time before Rekordbox does anything major. I'm hoping Rekordbox is overhauled in 2024.
@@TomTom-gn9mp if it happened, I wouldn’t be surprised that it dismisses performance mode support of some hardware on the free tier like they did with v6. That means if you don’t have the last gen hardware, you either stay on v6 or have to pay the subscription.
Great vid again. Djay and Serato are nr 1 for me. Djay has a bit more bleed but a cleaner sound. Less hard and echoish sounding. Guess its a preference but I preferred the cleaner sound of Djay and I dont mind a bit of bleed as it will dissolve in the mix. Hope Denon will catch up.
djay Pro 5 is the best for stem mixing of a song because of four stem buttons and sliders. Other apps have the stem buttons to silent or isolate the stem once we click the stem button. There are no stem sliders in other apps.
Thanks to this instructive video, it's a good way to see improvement about stems on different Dj software... I'm a Rekordbox user and I'm sad to see that Rekordbox stems are really bad in comparison to others software like Serato Dj or djay Pro 5... I hope they will work more to improve their stems... They are everywhere with their CDJ and controllers but they are nowhere on stems... A comment about other software ? I love their stems 😍
I prefer DJ Pro AI for iPad use. I hate the interface on RekordBox iPad. DJ Pro AI is subscription like RekordBox, so I actually want Serato to make a. iPad version since I don’t like subscription models. Even so, DJ pro AI on iPad’s stems are superior to RekordBox as well.
This is just Serato observations because it's all I've used, some tracks sound near perfect, some sound pretty bad. But I make remixes I don't play acapellas. So even some of ones where the vocals sound less than stellar, when mixed with a beat the quality sounds a lot better. Now the ones where the beat separates poorly are a different story. But I've had good luck making my remixes work so far. And seeing how Serato add's about 1 feature every 3 years, and it's usually a really minor thing. The fact we have STEMS at all, let alone a pretty good implementation is super impressive to me. A year ago if someone said Serato should add STEMS. My response would have been me laughing and saying "yeah, in 2030"
Vdj ever so slightly takes it for me. Not sure if it would make any difference, but Djay Pro also has a 4-stem separation option. Probably better to test them all the same way. Nevertheless VDJ & Djay Pro both sound incredible. Serato was a bit disappointing to be honest, I was expecting a bit better. But with these tools at hand, what a great time to be a dj!! @MOJAXX thanks for the comparison.
I will test this myself with VDJ, DJ Pro Ai, Serato Lite, and Rekordbox but it's safe to say based on this video that VDJ and DJ Pro Ai are the best while Serato is second and Rekordbox is a distant last.
Not only the stems sound better in djay also the overal sound has more width and tone quality than Serato and VDJ. Listen on a Burson headphone amp with HEDDphone. Sound quality wise in general from my listening: first djay, second VDJ, third Serato last Pioneer.
I would so love a Virtual DJ option that isn't so demanding - I have a Windows laptop with an integrated GPU in the AMD Ryzen CPU, and it is fine processing Serato's stems in real time, but there's no chance/point attempting it with VDJ, which is my preferred software. However, given that both Serato and Algoriddim have created stem processing that does a great job without the computer strain, I'm certain VDJ could do something if it's in their pipeline.
You can pre-process it on VDJ, or even use more sophisticated post-production splitter software/algorithms and load those in as discrete files per track in VDJ if the real-time demands are too much.
I just watched a You-tube video of Rekordbox from 2018 and the skin looks the same as it does today. There may have been major updates in 2020 but the look hasn't changed.@@NexuJin
Dusted off my kontrol s2 to have a play about with djay on the ipad, it handles real time 4 way stems separation like it’s nothing. Hugely impressed. It’s far far superior to rekordbox on my mbp, which takes a while to process poor quality stems, and only in 3 way (not being able to isolate b-line from harmonics kills me)
I haven't used Serato or VDJ, I use Rekordbox primarily and have Djay access. Djay is much better of the two but hats of to VDJ. Hope Rekordbox finds a way to catch up soon that is mappable with the FLX10
DJay Pro 5 on Windows is about 85% on point with Stems while Serato DJ Pro is about 95% and Virtual DJ is 90% before computing Stems. After computing Stems in VDJ it's the same if not slightly better than Serato. (I wonder if Serato Lite sounds any worse than Serato DJ Pro). I can't wait to see how DJay Pro 5 sounds after the updates come Windows.
I use all of the above programs but virtual wins all the way even serato users agreed when we were doing comparison it was on a quite huge sound system with 2 4000 watt sub and 4 jbl srx 725 that was working as satellite in a sound proof club was not that big of an area but it every details was counted for.
#1 djpro, #2 vdj, #3 Serato, #4 Recordbox, I have try all the 3 mayor Dj sofware except for Algorithm Dj, but I can tell how far behind Recordbox is on the stems race, when they should be leading the pack, if they're trying so hard to be #1 in the Dj world.
Virtual DJ still tops the stems, But VDJ needs to be re-engineered, the stems consume too much process on Windows devices and obviously needs a good dedicated GPU to work it out. I've tried DJay Pro AI on an old Windows laptop without a dedicated GPU and to be honest it worked better than VDJ For now I'm sticking to VDJ because it still has features that Serato, and DJay currently don't.
@@TomTom-gn9mp When i bought my laptop back in 2019. DJ software didn't use the graphics card other than drawing the waveform graphics and displaying the UI. So my laptop i uses to DJ still only has an Intel GMA.
It's a shame Rekordbox track separation is still this shit after about 9 months while the others kept on improving. I have a FLX 10 but can't really use some of it's USP's. And I don't like to use Serato so I can't really use that either.
I think the only feature on track separation in RB that i have been using is assigning FX to only a specific stem channel. Like giving vocal an echo, but not on instruments and drums. Or boosting a specific stems channel. I hardly ever solo a stems channel in RB.
Same. I never seem to learn the lesson to only buy technology based on what it can do today, and never on the promise of future features. So often get left high and dry.
Development wise Algoriddim and Denon are doing great work and showing the rest up. Hopefully this release will light a fire under the others. Traktor is dead let’s face it, they’re falling further and further behind and still haven’t managed to bring features that have been standard elsewhere for years. As a former Traktor user it’s maddening to see, they were so far ahead at one point. I’m now on Rekordbox and there’s been no meaningful update for a while now, they seem like they might be grinding to a halt. Their stems are unusable lets be honest, it’s kinda embarrassing. Feels like if something isn’t a feature on their top end ‘club standard’ kit they’re not really bothered about it.
@@onebyone022sure and maybe they could release a very decent implementation of it, but the platform is so far behind across the board that they’re never gonna catch up without a huge push. Given the pace they’re going since restarting development it just doesn’t seem at all likely that’s gonna happen. Who knows maybe they’ll surprise us, but at this point that’s definitely wishful thinking. I jumped ship about 3 years ago after holding out hope for a long long time.
VDJ is the best... that "Boom" song on the vocals they were the cleanest and best quality. Good for Djay catching up to them - almost. Serato still has something to be desired and rekordbox is simply embarassing.
djay pro sounds best but i cant justify paying sub to use my physical vinyl, sorry but ive paid for vinyl and cant use it without paying? its not like a car that needs petrol? plus non vinyl users get it all anyway. Just saying, but yeah definitely best sounding
