I am comparing different types of adhesive vinyl to see which is the best for stenciling projects. This video is sponsored by Cricut, however, all projects and opinions are my own. #cricutcreated Is stencil vinyl really better? Does it really make a better stencil? We are about to find out! After this video, you will know exactly which vinyl to buy to make all of your stencil crafts a success.
Note that cutting the stencils will work on ANY Cricut machine including the Cricut Maker, Cricut Explore series, and the Cricut Joy. The project shown in the video will require the Maker if you are going to cut the wood with your machine. You can also look for wood tags at your local craft store.

If you don't already have one, get yourself an inexpensive laminator and feed a empty pouch through it. They make the best stencils and you can use them over and over again. Just spray the back lightly with some adhesive spray.

I found when working with very thin mediums like alcohol ink I put a coat of gel medium over the stencil before going over it with ink. Cleanest lines I have ever seen. I just found it out by accident and come to this video saying it’s normal lol I’m slow.

If you paint over the stencil with the same color as the background and allow it to dry then paint the blue paint it comes out much cleaner

Definitely! If you watch the video, I give that tip. I actually wanted it to bleed a bit so we could actually see which performs better as a test.

Joni Burman Apply your stencil to your pre-painted wood then use the exact same color that you painted the wood to stencil it let that cure and then take your darker color in this case it was blue and use that to stencil again. Using the original paint color seals the edges and prevents the next color from bleeding underneath your stencil

I tried using the cricut stencil vinyl last night but didn’t like it. I was using words and it didn’t weed properly. The centers of some of the letters came off when I was weeding the outline. (I think that made sense). That’s where I wonder the difference. If I used regular vinyl, would the same thing happen?

Sounds like your cut settings. You will have to experiment with different cut settings regardless of what you use to get a good cut.

Any ideas on how to get the stencil vinyl onto a canvas? I tried it, and the stencil won't stick to the canvas enough to pull the transfer tape off. It's like the transfer tape is top strong for the stencil vinyl.

Angie did you use a lint roller for the patterns small pieces. It’s funny everyone just wipes the paint on the paint holder. When dry brushing you need a stiff course brush and you add a little paint and brush it on a rag. The brush needs to be dry from start to finish. Great video thanks for such great answers and wow you picked a very brave pattern. Try cutting your stencil on such a large piece, you needed to work from the bottom up because of the arches, they might have still torn but over all they would have been much easier to lift. Arm chair cricuting. 😄
@AngieHolden
@AngieHolden 4 года назад
I did not use a lint roller. The weeding wasn't too horrible! I have done dry brushing both ways. I think it is totally what look you like and how you want to approach it. I found the pattern easier to lift from the side when I was playing with it so I went with that for removing from the board. I think it would have ripped some either way.

Thank you for this video. I just won a Cricut Maker 3, and I want to make stencils with it. I prefer something painted, rather than vinyl just slapped on it, so this is very helpful. I haven't done anything with it, yet, I just got it last Friday, so I needed to know which vinyl I should buy, first. I am so confused. There are so many more types of vinyl out there, than I knew there was. Most people I watch talk about Oracal 651 vinyl, but I have heard a lot about Star Craft vinyl, too. So I am trying to figure it all out. Ugh. I just am not sure, as a beginner, what is the best thing to buy.

I see in Cricut Design that plaid is a card on the Happy Father's Day Cards image set. How did you get just the plaid without the remainder of the card?
