I am planning on doing my coffee table, the problem is my table is ikea with very shiny top. I have 2 ques, what paint will adhere better and what about top coat? To protect the design because my table sees heavy use.

Imana Khan use a chalk paint and then clear poly over it for protection. Get both from rostoleum
