Stendal City , Saxony Anhalt Land state, central Germany. It lies along the Uchte River, north of Magdeburg. Stendal was once the capital of the Altmark (“Old March”) division of Brandenburg and its early settlers were Lower Saxons Wends, Netherlanders, and Rhinelanders.
