Moving along on "L.C." the Harley Davidson Panhead, we're showing a "heelrest" for the "suicide clutch pedal." We're also showing the final function of it and the new "pieced together" brake linkage, brakelight switch, and horn with custom made bracket. Other stuff on order, it's getting close to starting the beast.

Trains going by? As a "foamer" and biker I made a suicide clutch pedal "heel rest" for a friend from an old rail splice bar bolt! I band sawed it leaving about 1 1/2 inch from the head, chucked it up in my lathe, drilled and tapped it for the clutch stud. Looked cool and it worked.

A lot of them are riveted together. Hook it up to the proper voltage and turn the little adjustment screw 'til it makes noise. Then dial it in and use it. The more you use it, the better it works. I honk mine when I'm in the middle of nowhere, just to keep it functioning.

Thank you for your generous consideration, Sincerely .................................. Steph
@pacificmike9501
@pacificmike9501 2 года назад
I think you're speaking of my Shovelhead. It was a very "inexpensive" windshield I had still in the box. I thought I would experiment with it. It was a reproduction of a 70's FL unit. I put it on and started measuring. Who cares if I destroy it? It was not a big deal. So I cut 4" from the bottom of the top piece. That made it also too narrow. So I went to a shop that made "plastic stuff." I had made a template of the bottom piece and had it cut out to be the proper width. That's what completed the shape of the "curved sides." I had this made out of black, opaque plastic. I took the sliding piece from the bottom and painted it black on the back side. I got clear vinyl tubing from the hardware store, slit it and glued it on. I hacked and wacked on the brackets until they fit the whole unit and gave me quite a bit of adjustment. I brought out a big fan, lit a cigar and effectively created my own "wind tunnel." Then I adjusted it to give me the desired effect. It's part of what gives me the best ride I've ever had. There are more little details to this, but that's basically what it took.

@MadKingJorge
@MadKingJorge 2 года назад
I did a quick search and found no definitive answer. Twin cams have starter clutch issues too, is this a particular shovelhead issue and what would be the main cause on a ship-shape bike?
@pacificmike9501
@pacificmike9501 2 года назад
The starter clutch normally lasts a long time on a Shovelhead. Some things just "wear out." The last one lasted over 20 years. No complaint. Just replace it. High compression hot rod motors are a little harder on them. Not really a big deal. The newer stuff takes them out oftener.

Mike you have mentioned events that you are attending in some of your videos. My question is aren't you worried about your bike being taken when you walk away from it at these events? I've seen other YT channels where that has happened. Just curious if there are security measures that can be implemented to prevent that or are there measures we can take to secure our rides when we have to walk away from our rides? It happened to me in 1990 at Daytona Bike Week. It wasn't fun hitchhiking 1000 miles home after that...

I had the stock heel toe friction plate foot clutch on my 1973 FL Police Special. I took it all apart and had each piece chromed. in regard to picking up parts from a local hardware store, do you try to go stainless steel? the selection in SS is not as large. sometimes i have to shop on line.
@pacificmike9501
@pacificmike9501 2 года назад
It really depends on your hardware store. Most oldtime hardware stores, and even some modern ones, buy and carry what their customers want. A good hardware store located in a biker neighborhood, or custom car neighborhood usually has all kinds of goodies. Just remember to use the right hardware for the job. Stainless isn't always the answer. But, there are different grades of stainless just like other hardware. Harley service manuals actually tell you what grades they use in the back of the service manual.
