Always worked on energized panels. Never turned off breakers when replacing outlets/ installing fans. Just turn off the switch and pay attention to details. Not electrical advice. 😏 Good job!👍

Well, I think I should get 2 of those generators and all 12 batteries between the 2. Get one of the little home panels. Hook that up to the fuse box. And now to give me a few days of power when power goes out. Of course, I don't have a power line so I don't have power from the power company. And I only have solar generators. I was thinking about getting A. Gas propane one, but still haven't done it yet. I still like buying a solar generators. So I think I might stay with those instead. Cause they are cheaper. And they cost more for the unit, but they are cheaper on fuel.

Sad news I was hoping for a Smart Transfer Switch between Battery to Public Utility. Not interested in a Backup Power Source or "emergency Power". :( The unit alone is a Backup source. I do like Electrician's amazing artwork of wiring, I do miss the Industry worked many years as a Supplier CED.

Great informative video. It has me interested for our house when we finish it. I am a master plumber. I know if you lick your fingers before grabbing a wire, it doesn’t hurt as bad😂😂😂😂 seriously nice video. On jobsites I love watching electricians bend conduit. Man... thats a sexy panel!! Looks so clean and wire management is purdy as well!!! This makes me want to hook up my 50 amp manual generac switch for my 13kw generator! I tried my best to make it look like this when I landed my outbuilding aka office. I had a retired electrician come and size the line from main to sub since I didn't understand the calcs and distance equations and didn't want to risk it.

I have thought about doing what Adam mentioned in his video a while back that u assisted him with, about supplementing by using a system like either of yalls to run my office during the summer when I'm running the AC. I'm just waiting to save some $$ then look for panels to help charge the system!

I was debating this and the Delta Pro x2. For RV use and home backup. They both have their benefits so tough call, especially when talking how much $$$ all this stuff is. That 130lbs may be tough for an RV use if moving back and forth. Love to see your ideas if have any, or maybe a vid though be asking a lot. 😊

It's really interesting to see how different the electrics are in the US compared in how we have in Finland. I'm not an electrician but grandpa gave me permission to work with electricity so I guess I'm quallified. I work with solar every now and then so these kind of thing are interersting to me. Would love to have something like this at home because I live in a place where we are without electricity many time a year.

Will it change over fast enough to leave tv, wireless router etc. on or will they go onto standby or reset? Or does it work like a UPS?

@hughwilson4911 it does have a split second transfer. Great question! So its likely most devices will reset or shut off. I did purchase a small ups for the tv and wifi router to bridge the gap.

A lot of these systems will have you splice them in the existing main panel. Unfortunately you may be limited to options when it comes to relocating circuits. A separate junction box or a trough about the new sub would be a better install.

You are 100% right about wanting this to automatically switch over in the event of power loss. I like that you can program the system to use power from the F3800 during your peak hours in the day. As an electrician, how much would you charge for the installation of this system?

It all depends on the layout. Your probably looking around $1500 just for labor. Give or take. Material is fairly minimal.

Could you please answer this (cause no one else has, even Anker): In self consumption mode, how does the HPP know how to not output more than the main + backup centers need ? Is it getting readings from the CTs and adjusting the output constantly ?

Good question. Yes, the only way i see that possible is with the CT’s on the incoming and if you noticed the internals of the home power panel there are more CT’s measure inputs and outputs as well. And you can determine how much you want the battery to discharge so you still have capacity for an outage. There is also another ct that they provide to install on the incoming PV conductor to measure solar input. I showed it in the video but didnt install because i dont have any solar yet.

Is there any chance that the town makes u install a knife switch accessible from the outside so that (in some severe fire or similar incident) they are sure you are not returning power to the grid?? Anything that ties and feeds your panel needs this according to some local laws - along with 100+ labels that say so - similar to solar GT systems... thanks a lot!!

@lys1805 i dont believe thats required on this system. Dont quote me on that. Its supposed to only counter the utility usage, so if the power is out it has nothing to counter and it would be in backup mode which would isolate it from the main and only power the backup load in the separate panel. Im guessing that the grid tie solar portion would still have to be set up in a way that it cant back-feed though. I dont have much experience with PV systems.

I appreciate this info. We need to do something to at least keep our well and sump powered during outages. The battery option over a generator now has me thinking, especially since it's not a whole lot that I need to keep running as "emergency". Fridge, freezers, sump and well. Seems pretty low demand considering what you backed up. Good stuff.

Nicely Done! I’m a 40 year Electrician/ Electrical Contractor and was asked to install one of these for a client. What are the local AHJ requirements for the installation of one of these units? I’m wondering if this would be considered an additional electrical load? My clients calculated load is already over 200 amps and the solar company has ignored that and put in a 150 amp main in order to install their massive 80 amp solar backfeed. Any info would be appreciated! Oh by the way, the manufacturer stated that it should only take a couple of hours to install this equipment! 😂🤣🤦🏻‍♂️

Not a lot of info on an AHJ requirements. Im sure it will vary in different areas. I would imagine that would apply more to the PV system solely and not so much the Anker system. It can backfeed to counter high peak costs but it isolates the main in an outage situation. Sorry i dont have a solid answer for you.

Its funny, I just watched Ankers own explanation video of the Home power system, and your explains everything much better, especially the wiring, and what the solar input ports are for on the home panel. Id love to see the video when you add some solar arrays, do you add them direct into the F3800 or as a seperate connection into the home panel? The F3800 are limited to how many arrays and input/output on each unit

I will definitely make a video when i install the PV system. Theres two ways you can set it up. If your using it as a portable unit you can charge then with solar. Or for your home set up you can install a separate PV system that will couple with the Home Power Panel to provide better efficiency and savings.

@@SpicerDesignsLLC This was what I wanted to ask as well. I have solar that comes in as a tandem breaker in the panel. With being grid tied, it shuts down if the power is out. Not sure how you keep the panels on and can't find info in their wiring diagrams. Thinking maybe the PV breaker needs to go in the sub panel?

@@SpicerDesignsLLC That is what I am gathering. It makes it seem like you would not be able to use grid tied solar without grid power then. If the inverter doesn't sense grid power, it shuts down to prevent back feeding to the grid. This would defeat the purpose of it for me. Thanks for the reply and I'll be keeping an eye out if you do add solar.

I’m thinking about doing something similar in a 850sqf small cabin.I’m looking at the anchor system, but I’m thinking that the Eco Flo delta smart home panel 2, would be easier. It Doesn’t require an extra subpanel, you run your loads right into it. Have you ever looked into those? What is your thought about them?

It charges through the power connection cord that goes to the home power panel. It can be scheduled to charge during off peak ours too. I did talk about all of that toward the end if the video.

Really great video and explanation of each step along the way. Thank you for sharing this with us. I do have an electrical question. I know very little about electricity. I have my system hooked up to my main circuit panel via an interlock kit and input box. I did it this way because I wasn't sure if my electric heat pump will work with a 50amp setup (the breaker for my heat pump is 60amps). Since the HPP uses a 100amp breaker, does that mean it would run my heat pump. FYI...I do have 2 F3800s and 6 expansion batteries. Was waiting for the double power hub to arrive.

Yes the HPP has a 100 amp feed and output. Granted you only want to have a max continuous load of 75-80 amps of the 100. Shouldnt have an issue running your heat pump though.

Anker's Double Power Hub will be coming out in June. It is 2 plugs connected to a hub. The plugs go into HPP receptacles in the F3800x and then you connect one end of your 50amp cord into the hub and the other end into my inlet box. That doubles the 6000 watts to 12000 watts. It's just a manual way of doing what the automatic HPP, without all of the extras that the HPP offers. When there's an outage, I have to manually shut off the main breaker, and turn on the generator breaker. Not as seamless as the HPP, but still does the job. Because my generator breaker is only 50amps, I would also turn off the 60amp heat pump breaker in my current system.

One more question. When the batteries are depleted to level set. Do the circuits connected continue running on power from grid while battery recharges or do they shut off to recharge? Thanks again for making this video.

The time of use mode for money saving actually just pushes power back on the grid to counter usage. Similar to a PV system. It doesnt actually switch to battery power on the new backup panel. So once it depletes to the level you set, it will wait until off peak hours, which you would set, and recharge then. Usually at night. Hopefully that answers your question.

Good job. I we lived close I would be trying to get you to do my solar connections on job sites. Biggest downside I have seen on these style units is that the solar can’t back feed like a typical grid tied system. So once the solar has the batteries charged… it just sits there. Not sure if the Anker is the same but most I have seen are that way

The anker actually couples with the grid tied system. Doesnt necessarily use the solar to charge it. Its more designed around cost savings than just a normal back up system.

Next you'll be telling me they don't give you one for one Net Metering either, like we still have down here in FL. Bastards! Are you going to hook up some kind of interlock/bypass for the 100amp in case the Anker shts the bed?

Thats just incase Adam shows up. They are pretty good occasionally. I did install an 1-1/4” nipple so i could take the 100 sub feed to the sub panel if needed. I thought about installing a tie breaker but it would consume a lot of space in the sub.

Depends on the sub panel. The one in the Anker kit is a 12 space. I had a lot of smaller loads, so i purchased a 24 space. Also depends on how big the loads are. You dont want to overload the battery system.

Thanks, Unfortunately i didnt build the house so i dont have a choice at this point. The water heater situation is specific to my home. Anything could happen at any point aside from the water heater.

One thing I would do is put a division between your water heater and your power setup. I had a leak in my water heater line just a pin hole but it was shooting about 3 and a half feet on to the drywall for about a day before I went in the garage. I ended up having to replace the dry way. Anyway that would suck if it were to destroy your backup system.

For a real off grid, battery backup system, you should have purchased a higher performance low frequency, transformer based inverter charger with built in MPPT. These low budget, high frequency, transformerless solar generators simply don't offer a high enough peak power capacity for household, high inductive loads especially if you have a deep well pump..

Hey Kyle, Nice Job! But I am curious on why a battery back up rather then a propane or diesel back up. Battery seems so limited with both how much of the house you can run and the time you can run it for where the engine units you can do the whole house and really go unlimited time as long and you have a supply.

Thats the disadvantage to the battery. I didnt want a gas generator eating through my propane. The propane is expensive and we rarely lose power. So when it exercises every week is just burning gas. The battery system will likely last through a typical outage which is all i really need. All comes down to preference.

You could use it with two. You would just have to move circuits from both panels into a sub panel that will be powered from the battery system during an outage.

It works fine in that appliication, but is not that suitable in an RV etc without the transfer switch as it only has 2 inverters inside, 1 of which is also used for charging the unit, so the unit cannot output 240v power when it is charging. It can only do 120V power out of half of its outlets when it is charging. It was a cost saving thing I guess.

No. A single unit can out out 6000w. 25 amps at 240v and 50 amps at 120v. Two units will give you 12000 watts

They do for other systems but not currently for anker. If you only had a 100 panel you could potentially set this up to back up everything.

Hey man, great video! I would love to do this exact setup. I have a question for you about this first. Note that I have no electrical experience so apologies if this is a dumb question. But what is the purpose of having BOTH the Anker home panel AND the transfer switch panel? Is it possible to just wire the Anker home panel directly to your main panel? Then when on backup power, couldn't you just turn off the breakers on your main panel that you didnt want the f3800 panel to power? Thanks in advance for any explanation!

All good buddy! Never a dumb question. You could not do that. In most cases if you put your entire load on this battery system, it will deplete the battery at a much faster pace. Ideally you want to have essential loads only for max battery life during an outage. On top of that, the supply to the home power panel and load cant be coming from and going to the same panel. And it automatically transfers so you wouldnt do anything manually with this setup. You have to have the secondary panel.

@@SpicerDesignsLLC They are emailing product team. So we will see. Immediate answer is to unplug them from the Smart Center and plug the generator direct to the AC input to charge, but figure that would charge much slower than the direct link from Smart Panel.
