when they got a new show runner in season 2, she apparently made all the girls take their weaves out. you'll notice in season one, some of them had weaves and stuff. but in season 2 there were a lot less weaves and more natural hairstyles.
MAKE SENSE, HER AND BILL = Great friends, throw in a few others, like her beautiful sis Claire. love ADIFFERENT WORLD. BEST comedy blk comedy, cosby and also what's happening. few others. yep.
Actually Bill Cosby asked her to do it! The first episode wasn't very good. So Cosby wanted it to reflect and be more. Debbie Allen took over and Bill Cosby bowed out, it was her baby and he knew he didn't have to worry!
Charnele Brown always gave such joy filled performances! She LIVED her character in scenes like this one and the wedding ep when Dwayne made his "Please baby PLEASE!" declaration! Her smile is from within!
I related to her character so much because she was dark skinned just like me, which was so refreshing to see back then. I loved how her character was smart, loyal, and hardworking, and sweet but not a pushover.
I think Cree Summers is a bit too. Read up on her a little bit. She has a very interesting voice acting history and familial history. Unrelated: she's definitely a cool person.
@@evaharris6450 Word is Bond, ma. real talk, no 1 is better, you're right on that, i just like how yea our black shows, still rule, no matter what, there is no show on air, today that can compare, all the fake Kartrashian Bull sh---t, yet some "fools"support that fake sh-t,and others, no thank you, goin to keep watching "us" just glad it's on re-runs.Real talk. @@greenbrown7776 GOT INTO COSBY, middle class black AWESOME parents=sure did,and the kids, beautiful home, loved it all, much love there. LOVE A DIFFERENT WORLD always, so real, and real is BEST..." love it.
@@greenbrown7776 Super glad you watched but no Cosby...oh no, that is a shame. Because Bill created a show about HBCU life to show that families like the Cosbys were created by HBCUs. Yes, HBCUs--along with the black Church--created the black middle class. That was the point of the show, to introduce all the white viewers of the Cosbys of this 'different world' from where you all come from (black colleges).
When freddie finally got the damn steps down!!!!!! One of my fav eps...wish it was tv like this again. Watching a different world is one of the reason I couldn't wait to get to college lol.
Robin Quincy You forgot the main part where Whitney was a major bitch and dogged freddie out! Only in the last 7 minutes is when Whitney had change of heart!
I remember when i was a kid seeing this show when it aired on tv in 90'.....This episode of "Different World"and the movie "School Daze" was one of the reasons why I attended an HBCU....#Tennessee State Univ...Go Big Blue....
You must have never seen many step shows? lol This was a very simple version of the African step tradition, I've seen my wife's step vids from the mid 00s and some of their moves were Bruce Lee level.😏
This show gave Me hope on so many levels. Growing up in the hood, it showed Me that there is a whole world out here. Not all of my ppl out here doing wrong . I'm a Living Testimony and Living Witness . I attended the Prestigious Alabama State University . Graduated in 2001 with a Degree in Business 🐝 🖤💛🖤💛 🐝
👍🏾 Didn’t attend that school, but I am from “The Gump,” 😂 so I’m all to well familiar with it. I attended AAMU in Huntsville. 🥰. #aamualumni #gobulldogs #hbcu #gohornets
Jalessa was hilarious at the end: G-I-L-B-E-R-T Gilbert Hall's the one for me A-B-C-D-E-F-G Gilbert Gilbert. G-I-L-B-E-R-T Gilbert Hall's the one for me A-B-C-D-E-F-G Gilbert Gilbert OOH OOH !!!!!
LOVED THIS SHOW! especially this episode! i still remember the lyrics! “A, B, C, D, E ,F ,G. Gilbert is the one for me.” A-B-C-D-E-F-G, Gilbert Hall’s the one for me We can’t help it if we’re great, for Gilbert Girls it’s our natural state Do tell we’re fly Do tell we’re fine, now sliiiiiiiiiiiiiide, Hip Hop Snobby girls from Libby Hall, next to us you are flowers on the wall Ask the fellas who stand in line outside our door, cause they say that we are fine We don’t wear hair weaves we know how to dress, we’re smart, clean and cool, hot and fresh Hit It, Now Pump It, Do The Butt Do tell we’re fly Do tell we’re fine, watch us blow your mind 1-2-3-4, Great Great Great Great G-I-L-B-E-R-T, Gilbert Hall’s the one for me A-B-C-D-E-F-G, Gilbert Gilbert G-I-L-B-E-R-T, Gilbert Hall’s the one for me A-B-C-D-E-F-G, Gilbert Gilbert
I love how they tried to make it like Freddy had no rhythm and she was the main one up there getting it besides Jaleesa. You don't go from what Freddy was doing to that. Cree had rhythm already. But I believed that she didn't. She's a good actress
daniesabria, I remember watching this episode when it first aired back in 1988/89, I was @ S.C State . I would've been Freddy, but unlike her I would've been kicked off the team permanently. I am one black woman who has no rhythm.
+Sapphire586 hey it happens!! lol don't worry bout it..ive been teaching my aunt to do the original running man for damn near 20 years now 😂😂😂 she still can't do it lmao
I watched this a few years back when I wasn’t going to school, now because of A Different World, it’s inspired me to go back to school to get an Associate, and hopefully transfer to Virginia State
I am 40yrs old & watched this every time it came on. And with it being on Prime now, can watch it all over again. Man, HBCUs just hit different This & Living Single all day everyday lol
Idc what anybody say that Dawn Lewis dance so smooth, like she doesn't think about it she just does it.! Every episode she has danced in I've enjoyed it!
It was too influential, that’s why they canceled it. The black collegiate percentage was at an all time high when this show was on the air…too much of a positive influence on our community, so it had to go.
Back then it was a necessity in order to be successful in acting. Many of these actors came from theater backgrounds where they were trained and required to have some kind of singing abilities.
Everyone here is taking about black beauty and Jasmine, Cree and Charlene’s talents as well as Debbie directing which she made the show amazing over the years. But are we not gonna talk about Jaleesa talents dancing in this sequence I mean the girl was super talented in the show and what gets me about the dance is her swagger and the in your face attitude she gave those girls in the end.
I was in the 5th grade when this episode aired! My 2 sisters, 3 of our friends, and I, LEARNED THE STEPS..LOL!!!! We showed off our skills on the play ground at school and at home!!!! I miss my childhood!!!! Those were GOOD DAYS!!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️☺
My favorite is the wedding with Dwayne begging "Baby PLEEEASE!!" I get goosebumps recalling it lol. I think I saw him in interview saying he'd forgotten some lines and improvised. Best darn improvisation you could ask for!
I remember watching this in elementary school wanting the whole outfit corefram ( shiny shoes), off the shoulder outfit and the biker shorts with the shirt over it. 😁 Different World brings back so many memories!😁😁
Mariamyupperz two years ago the main writer for the show wanted to reboot a different world sitcom again but had and is still having a hard time in getting the green light to go ahead with it....it would be cool to have another awesome sitcom like this on tv again
@bravebear6975 because our "beauty regiment" memics one that is unnatural to our phenotype. You're right, though... it's really getting old to see BW coveting the traits of other groups.
Cassandra Ellis-Haynes honey nobody in my generation honestly gives that many f-ks about this show that was 20 years ago anyway, it’s old as heck like yourself, so chill ancient self down, grandma 👵
This NEVER gets old!!! I was talking with a friend about an A Different World reboot. Jaleesa is standing in front of Gilbert Hall and it pans to this. And the final moments, she is up in the porch saying A-B-C-D-E-F-G GILBERT, GILBERT OOHHHHAAAAAHHHH
I never figured out how students at HBCU's could afford to stay so damn fly dressed back in my day lol.. I was stationed in the military base that happened to be close to a HBCU, and they were even fresher than us, and we worked everyday!! GO HBCU's
Hi! I'm just seeing this video in my timeline today 5/30/21. To your comment about dressing fly: I know what you mean as I am a FAMU Rattler alumni. I was there from '91-'93. I don't know about the guys, but I personally knew ALOT of young women whose parents gave them money, used their school loans to stay dressed fly, women who shoplifted or dated guys for money. Not kidding.🤷🏽♀️
When It's A Different World first aired. Some of us who was in high school watch this show. It actually influenced us to enroll in college after highschool. Bill Cosby did state that getting a higher education is good for our youth. Today I do talk to the youth about college.
ugh.!!..TV crushes are the worsst ...you kno ...that whole... you can look ...but ya cant touch ...... ....my crush was todd bridges from different strokes ...you prolly was NOT even born then LOL...
when I was younger I thought this was supposed to be their take on a stepshow (my mother was a Delta so I had been to a few growing up) wasn't til I got to A&T that I found out they got this from Bennett college where the Dormitories really did have step off against each other.
