DOOM is the perfect barometer to gauge someone’s taste. Anyone who reacts like this guy has hip hop in his blood. When someone doesn’t appreciate DOOM, I don’t trust em.
As a 45-year old stepdad myself, I feel Pops on this one. I got lucky that I didn’t miss this shit when it dropped. I was actually able to hear some of it pre-release at Coachella 2003 when the whole Stones Throw squad was up in the tent. Music is obviously subjective, what rocks you is a culmination of everything you been through in your life, everything you heard, everything that prepared you up to the point you hear it. Madvillainy looks like that album your dad been waiting for. Thank you for bringing it to his attention.
GOAT album. The beats for Fancy Clown, Strange Ways, Great Day & the song Eye are on my 6 month daughter’s bedtime playlist. A couple beats from piñata and bandana too
@@collinbeal the band sampled on the beginning of Meat Grinder too, The Mothers of Invention. Frank Zappa was an absolute madman and straight G. One of my dad’s fav musicians ever
Yooooo tell your pops that the instrumental interlude “sickfit” is just the beat because DOOM believed it was too nice to rhyme over. If you dig deep enough you can find the original rough DOOM verse over it
I never realized how revolutionary DOOM’s and Madlib’s usage of “polyphonic”(?) sampling was, because of how common it has become on RU-vid forever example, but it really is like a “Meta-Sampling” masterclass when you think about it.
You gotta do MM.. FOOD after this. I would also recommend Mach-Hommy - #RICHAXXHAITIAN. Best rap album of 2024 so far and he is super unique and one of the best rappers of this generation, influenced by DOOM in some ways and DOOM was a fan of him too, they even got a few songs together!
If pops knows bout Dilla yall should def do Champion Sound, whole album of Dilla and Madlib rapping over each others beats, another killer Stones Throw joint.
something about the beat of rhinestone cowboy paints a picture for me with its vibe. sounds like someone ascending to power after accomplishing a great feat, like a samurai defeating a worthy force and being made the shogunate or something, but also can be said for DOOM after amassing this piece of art and and by the end of it ascending higher as the figure he's built himself up to be.
OOOOH MY GOD! "Tripping off the beat kinda, dripping off the meat grinder Heat niner, pimping, stripping, soft sweet minor China was a neat signer, trouble with the script digits Double dipped, bubble lipped, subtle lisp midget Borderline schizo, sort of fine tits though Pour the wine, whore to grind, quarter to nine, let's go" This is just some of his finest work. Madlib and DOOM really took it to another level with this album. Still one of my favorites of all time. From beginning to end.
Dude I love that you have shown him the Zappa and Hula Rock samples for Meat Grinder. What a completely over-the-top, next-level track. Question: In your opinion, what is the 4th flavor in "All Quad Flavors" Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, and... Pistacio... maybe? I don't know... All I know is that it was sealed away for being too tasty...
fire album, you should pops onto some more mf doom, also for a channel your size you great production; setup is nice and cozy and the pan zooms and cuts ar simple but add so much to a video like this, stay villainous
That's how I was when I first heard this album. Accordion was OK but them Meat Grinder came on and I sat up like WTF my boy was driving like"yea that shit hard right?" That and One Beer started my MF DOOM rabbit whole, back in 2005.
MF DOOM's lyrical abilities only got better with time. Listen to his rhyming on his next solo album "Born Like This". Some of his best wordplay! Also he got ahold of a J Dilla beat for one of the tracks. I highly recommend it. Yes some of his best work was around this time but he got nicer over time. Then lots of collabs. Not being allowed back into the US is what made him start working with UK artists and such.
Madlib did rap w/ Lootpack. He’s like the west coast ODB. Sluggish, stoned, mild speech impediment. I think it’s dope as fuck but he don’t like it. He does rap as Lord Quas
really nice reaction and pov! id sugest add DOOM to the video name you will get a bunch of more view!!! keep it up was nice to see younger people intressted in DOOM
