Stephanie and Eric get engaged, Stephanie fights with Lauren over her interest in Eric. Stephanie aborts the wedding with Eric over his feelings for Lauren and later grows closer to him when he reassures her over dinner.
Susan Flannarry should have been a big screen actress. She was so brilliant as an actor. She had the ability to make us believe her on screen no matter what when or how the script called for it. She aged gracefully and boldly before our eyes.
The proposal was so touching.......Stephanie was like gold. Eric didn't deserve her love, beauty and loyalty. However, I believe that she was the one he really loved - he always returned to her. And she was so bad-ass, beautiful and strong!

I think this was truly heartbreaking. Eric broke her heart completely this time. Such a terrible betrayal. I loved them as a couple through all their happy and sad times and all their vicious fights. I found this so sad. 😭 I did like the kiss in front of Lauren though. ❤
No. I think in the end Eric knew Stephanie was THE ONE! He did truly love her! This scene between Stephanie & Eric is the BEST scene in all of B & B's 35 year history! John and Susan were just the absolute foundation and breath of life of this soap. Nothing they do today can match it-- or them!
I can watch this over and over through the years and still be completely mesmerised by Susan Flannery. My God she is such a naturally gifted actress. Every emotion feels so real. She is utterly brilliant. What a loss when she left the show. Still how very lucky they were to have her talents for 25 years. She really is remarkable in her portrayal of the very complex character of Stephanie, she takes my breath away with all of her performances. 🌹

My gosh. Yes. I was 15 1/5 when B&B premiered. LOVED Stephanie/Susan from day one. So glad I got to experience her level of acting prowlness & art. I was too young to see Judith Light on OLTL & know the AW heyday Rachel/Robin or Peyton Place for that matter. My mom, aunt, uncles...would talk about the soaps growing up in the 60’s/70’s & Dark Shadows. I got Susan Fannery & Erika Slezak & Anne Heche in the 80’s & 90’s!

Susan Flannery is such a brilliant actress. She made it all seem so real. You really feel Stephanie's pain, he really hurt her this time. Words are cheap Eric. He always had the words. Still doesnt matter what, I do believe these two loved each other and I did always love when he saw the error of his ways and came crawling back. Eric should have sought treatment, he had some kind of problem, always going from one young woman to the next. Most of Stephanies manipulations came from the fact that she was insecure and needed him to focus on her and give her some love and tenderness. Susan and John portrayed these characters so well but now with no Stephanie the show has died I feel. No where near the same quality of acting or writing anymore.

Stephanie was a tyrant who always took the moral high ground even though she was no saint herself. It's no wonder Eric sought comfort in other women. On another note this is when he was drop dead gorgeous. Suave, sophisticated and debonaire he was everything you want in a man. The show lacks class these days. I know Eric has reduced his time on the show, which is understandable, but they could focus on glamorous fashion and style which made the show so popular from the start.
@nadine müller Stephanie Douglas trapped Eric into a marriage. She was physically abusive. Eric wasn't the greatest husband but the fact that he didn't try to kill her after finding out Massimo was the daddy says he was a good man.

I love Stephanie!! If more people lived by a certain code of ethics like her, this world would be a better place. Yes, Stephanie could be manipulative, but it was always with the best of intentions at heart, as she was fiercely loyal and protective of her family instead of scheming for her own gain and advantage like most of the other characters.

Love or hate Susan Flannery (or the characters she's portrayed), she never fails to deliver the goods in her performance. She always packs the emotional wallop & evokes the audience to feel exactly what her character feels - whether it be anger, sorrow, jealousy, despair, humor, happiness etc. Susan Flannery deserved a lot more success, recognition and accolades than she received.

I totally agree. Susan was such a natural actress it never seemed like acting with her. Stephanie was such a complicated character and she played her perfectly. She is one of my very favourite actresses of all time. Her performances always move me emotionally. This was such a sad episode when Eric let her down again 😔

I hate watching Stephanies heart being broken again here. If only he had been true to her. Stephanie had her faults but most of her manipulations came from a deep insecurity that he would go off to some younger woman. Eric Marrying Brooke was the first heartbreak but I think this one was even more devastating. I never liked the character of Lauren. Even years ago on Y & R she was always after someone elses man. I found this so sad but I have to admit I loved that kiss at the Cafe. We really do get caught up in these soaps dont we but these early episodes were really wonderfully written and beautifully acted especially by my favourite Susan Flannery. A remarkable actress 🌹
I had a drag through the mud, break up to make up, first love as deeply characterized by Eric & Stephanie. I was 16 and I am now 59; while he's dead. I wrapped too much of myself into his codependency. And it is only now, twenty-two years later, that I have reclaimed myself. I don't win a lifetime achievement award for surviving the pain of twisted love.

Lauren and Stephanie were best friends, but how was it possible that Lauren had feelings with Stephanie's husband? It really makes me feel sick to watch how Lauren join her battle to Stephanie, just like her enemy Sheila of having affair with Eric. I really wish that Stephanie should work it out and give Eric a chance and remarry, but when they're getting older, Eric may become a brat with his whole family to lie and deny and move on with so many flings he's with - lying, cheating, scheming and manipulating. It was one thing that happened with Lauren, but many times with Brooke and Sheila...even Donna Hoe-gan. This is just really hard to hear and watch.
Eric needs Stephanie because all the other little girls he married are just that. He has 5 children with Stephanie & 2 with Brookeypoo. Eric & Brookeypoo were never good parents they left that up to Stephanie who might as will be a single mother & grandmother.Eric told Stephanie he would never hurt her but that's all he ever did.
Eric would never have left Brooke, if she had really loved him. He was coming back to Stephanie, because she was a safe haven to take refuge, after all disappointment. Eric loved Brooke infinitely, maybe even more than Ridge did.

I began watching this show in French, in Mauritius, since the 1988 season which I got to see three years after it was broadcast in the US. After moving to Great Britain in the mid-90s, I was fortunate to be able to continue watching B&B in English for years, until Channel 5 decided to drop it. I consider the first 12-15 years to be the best era by far of this soap opera, although it still remained tolerably watchable for another 5 or 6 years afterwards. The past decade, however, has seen The Bold and the Beautiful literally go to the dogs. The rare few times I do tune in now, there's nothing I am able to relate to: the old background score, which I always considered to be one of B&B's strongest points, is entirely gone, the pillars that were Ronn Moss and Susan Flannery are nowhere to be seen, the storyline is so bland I often wonder if it's the same show that so gripped my attention 25 years ago! B&B should've been terminated in the late noughties, according to me. Those of us who got to see these old episodes as they were being churned out, and who still look back upon them with fondness, would've been spared the torture the soap has mutated into.
Imagine if Lauren were pursuing Eric while he was with Sheila; the hellcat switch would be flipped and she wouldve cut her into puzzle pieces with that scalpel from her nursing days!

Has Stephanie ever slept with anyone else since she married Eric all those years ago? She was totally devoted to him and no matter how she came across, she always has HIS best interests at heart!
She had a few great kisses with others particularly Jack and I would have loved her to have a raging affair with Clarke Garrison, they had some chemistry, way back in 87 & 88.He would have been a great toy boy to show off but no just a few very sensual kisses and she stopped him. Damn. I admired her principles but I always wanted Eric to get really jealous. Bill Spencer Senior was really sweet on Stephanie too. Susan Flannery is an amazing actress, such a striking beauty in her heydey, those eyes and white blonde hair! none of these other actresses could compare in looks or talent. I know she had quite a lot of ill health, she survived colon cancer and suffers from terrible affliction of fibromyalgia hence her weight gain and no high heels. Still a beautiful lady aging gracefully. I wish they would bring out all the episodes of B&B from the 80s and 90s. They were the best years, the best writing, great addictive storylines and production values. Cant watch it anymore. It died with Stephanie for me.

I've been watching quite a bit of old soap episodes and clips on youtube especially lately. Great actresses such as Charita Bauer, Beverlee McKinsey, Victoria Windham, Linda Dano, Kim Zimmer, Maeve Kincaid, Eileen Fulton, Helen Wagner, Kathryn Hays, Colleen Zenk Pinter, Frances Reid, Erika Slezak, Robin Strasser, Susan Flannery, Darlene Conley, etc are so missed!!! B&B has been so much better lately but it still doesn't reach the heights when Susan and Darlene were onscreen.
