Stephanie Trick (USA) played "Keep Your Temper" by Willie "The Lion" Smith. Privately recorded at a videosession in Muri/BE, Switzerland, December 23, 2009.
I've watched a lot of Ms Trick's videos but this one is special for how well it displays her fantastic stride skill with good camera work. Understated world-class performance. Sustained, awesome accuracy from beginning to end.
I dunno, the sound quality leaves a bit to be desired (then again, so does the video, this was recorded 11 years ago) but the playing makes up for it I'd say.
The composition is by Willie the Lion. The arrangement is by the reclusive stride savant, Donald Lambert, and is also played in slightly modified form by by Louis Mazetier. Steph has learned from the best !
Assurdoooo!!!!! Grande Maestro Stephanie!!!!! Immensa!!!! Italians jazzmen love youUuuUUuUuUu!!!!! tecnica perfetta, grande pulizia, dazzling magistrale!!!!
Well I thought I knew something about playing the piano. Now I want to cut off my fingers. No not really but Stephanie you don't just play the notes, you've got the spirit of the genre. You are today's "Franz Liszt" of stride; Fats Waller on steroids. BRAVO!
It's such a delight to find this young lady revelling in classic stride piano and playing with such obvious joy and relish. Who says the young have no ears? Here's living proof that jazz lives. More power to your elbows Ms Trick - you've warmed the cockles of an old jazz fan's heart.
My best friend, rehearsal pianist and vocal coach was married to The Lion. I met him once when I went up to his apartment in Harlem to get some papers for her.
Watching and listening to this girl playing this piece is better than sex. Mind you I am 76 years old but I do remember what it was like. Thanks Stephanie.
I'm 78 and my memory is not as good as yours Jim but if I could remember I think I would agree with you. This young lady is beyond words...she's just.....what was I saying? I think I'll be listening to every recording I can find if I can remember her name next week...tomorrow.....A LITTLE GENIUS for sure and SO cute!!!
I'm 76, and some would say I'm semi-senile. But there's no way I could ever forget Stephanie ...... er ..... mmmm ....... almost got it ........ Oh yeah , Trick
Please don't hate me for asking this, but I really don't know: what would be the correct category/description for this music? It seems a bit too fast for ragtime, it does not have the correct beat for boogie, what should it be called?
Such an innocent time, way back when this was played and recorded by Stephanie Trick in 2009: Before the original iPad; Before Brexit; Before Trump . . . - j q t -
