As a kid in early 90s I had a small 6x3 snooker table. When playing on my own I used to pretend in my head that I was Jimmy White and Stephen Hendry playing each other. But have to say, I was a Jimmy fan so always concentrated a little bit harder when it was Jimmy's turn. But even then, Stephen still used to win more.

I used to do that in the 80s with Hurricane Higgins vs Davis, in my head I ALWAYS wanted Higgins to win, guess I put too much pressure on imaginary Higgins cos Davis won way more.

"Pie, Pint and Play" road trip was an old idea of mine. He visits players, who show him round the town, they chat over a pint, and then have a frame in a famous club. Bit of local history included about the club. Start with Romford and Davis/Hearn.

In regard to that long stun shot, I remember Neil once said in this channel, he would be able to pot the red 9 out of 10. However, for most amateur players, the chance is really tiny. I would rather choose to pot the red with one cushion bouncing back for the black or pink myself.

Well done Stephen, you make it look so easy. My career ended very early, I was coached by Frank Callan and used to watch Steve Davis in the 80s in the match room at the Commonwealth sporting club in Blackpool. It was a great venue for the English U16/19 competitions. I remember playing on the next table to John Parrot and my good friend Chris Cookson who now coaches Jimmy White. Frank kindly mentioned me in an 80s edition of Cue World and said to Steve D that is be taking his crown within 10 years. Sadly it was never to be, I got the dreaded fudge and yips after getting sunstroke on a holiday when I was 19. Frank was a good man and great coach. May he rest in peace. Thanks for your commentaries and all your interesting videos. It's like walking down memory lane - You're doing a great job, keep it up. I've always admired you from afar with Steve, Jimmy and all the fantastic characters from the past. Got some other lovely stories to share about you, but that's for another time. All good wishes, Kevin

The first shot with off two cusions to get to the yellow looks like a general lesson for cue ball positioning. You are better with the cue ball finishing while moving roughly in line with your next shot if you have the option so you have a big error margin with pace

I'd absolutely love a short video of Stephen playing lots of a shots from the cushion, wearing that head camera. I'd love to see how he bridges, where abouts he hits the ball, how much angle/raise he provides in relation to the angle off the cushion/how much of the ball he can see. My biggest break building killer is going too close to the cushion. It can make me miss almost straight shots because I can't judge how to play them effectively. Even if I pot off the cushion, I tend to lose position even more because I've concentrated too much on the pot

Interesting how Stephen says not to use side when the red is tight to the cushion. I've heard it said in commentary on pro matches that you can use some side to make the red hug the cushion and make the shot easier. You can't do it if the red isn't touching the cushion though.

Something I've always wondered about: how do you professional players pot long balls (ball not aligned to the pot) almost without looking at them, simply going to the table and taking the shot perfectly. How? (Judd is master with this type of shot) There's some like "if you hit the ball always in the same spot you will be able to pot, maybe, 8/10 times" or what?

I always thought side on the along the cussion shot helps the object ball 'hug' the cussion. The shot you played would be played with left hand side to transfer a touch of right hand side to the object ball. But maybe with all the added variables by introducing side -- it just isn't worth it...
@AD-kv9kj
@AD-kv9kj 7 месяцев назад
He really should try and trim down that gut as well as go all out on the practice and mental preparation if he is ever at all serious about wanting to work his way into a few top tournaments again. Think he needs to stop blocking himself with all the worrying about losing anyway despite really trying again. Just go for it and see what happens, and if you lose in the first rounds still so what? At least then you'll know you don't have more in you...however, I really think he could at least get to some good quarters if he puts the same work in that he used to. And that alone would be awesome to see. Imagine a Masters or even Worlds quarter final with Stephen Hendry facing one of the big names.
