Homster T Oh, geez. I didn't even get that it was referencing a specific thing. I forgot to watch the Town Hall and saw The X-Files instead (which was a disappointment, but some critics say it gets better.) Good job with the link, Hom.
Sorry Steve, Clintons Nice Network did a much better job of staging questions and framing the answers. You were definitely more funny, CNN was funny in a "that's funny, Como is using this unbiased CNN Town Hall Meeting to endorse Hillary and do a hit job on Bernie" sort of way.
This is really one of the best sketches of Stephen on the Late Show so far. Brilliant jokes of a talented staff, great interviews with truly interesting people, the 'unintentional' educational value of the show and Stephen simply crowning that with his personality - his intelligence, quick wit, authenticity and humour. So, why on earth are these videos not getting more views??? Television ratings is one thing, but RU-vid videos? I don't quite get it... it's just sad.
+William Cortelyou I mean the metalevel. Maybe I used that term wrong here. I meant that Colbert often has some sort of subcontext in what he says or does. He's self referencial sometimes. The joke is between the lines if you will. Does anyone know what I mean?
+William Cortelyou Meta primarily comes from metaphysics, wherein physics deals with the physical realm, metaphysics deals with a level beyond the physical, like intangible concepts like the mind or spirit. You were referring to metagame, which is _the game within the game._ In gaming, there are the rules, and then there are the patterns. For example, in tennis, there are the rules that everyone follows. However, the *metagame of tennis* is the little things they do _to win_ such as putting some top spin on the ball, or spiking it down on the line, that are not mentioned in the rules. LoL has its own patterns that everyone follows without saying it. Meta used in this context refers to how Stephen acknowledges his satirical nature while also performing it live and realistically. It's a show _within a show._ He breaks the Fourth Wall by openly admitting planted audience members etc. Meta in literature and entertainment usually refers to a space wherein the work itself comments on the nature of itself or the genre, mode of entertainment, the audience, etc. It's like when characters know they're characters.
Not a planted question, but hand selected in favor of Hillary. The kid made a post on Twitter denying the allegations. I have no reason to believe he is lying, for he has no reason to.
+- Adam - it's close enough to the same thing. Just like the large tendency for ignorant questions directed at Sanders that seem favorable, close enough to natural but still slanted.
+- Adam - I agree, he isn't lying. But if you pay close attention to the questions Sanders got and compare them to Clinton's, and even more, how they were asked pfffff it's a joke. I mean, there's a reason why CNN corp is a top donor of the Clinton campaign.
It's a bit premature to be concerned about the end of the Iowa caucuses. The situation is quite fluid and while some candidates are just limping along, there's still some stiff competition. We are far from the climax of the presidential campaigns. I'm sure Stephen can build a good rhythm for the coverage, pump out some great jokes, really give his audiences what they want. As the race gets tighter and tighter, and the excitement rises and rises, Stephen can fill his show with more and more election jokes, culminating with an explosion of hilarity that will leave everyone satisfied.
When I saw Stephen taking off his jacket, loosening his tie & rolling up his sleeves the only thing i could think of was:"PLEASE SPANK ME, SIR!!!!!!!!!!"
He didn't mention the way the questions were exposed. One of the people asking the questions fumbled and said "Oh i get whyd they give you that question" when it was his turn to ask hillary his "own" question.
07:01 !!!DANG YOU ESTEBAN COLBERTO!!! The Whiteness of your GAM just blinded a large number of your viewers including myself.. Stephen they are called: "SUN RAYS" enjoy and bathe in them XO)... The funny thing about the positivity of these candidates is that you wouldn't expect Republican candidates to do the same. If Donald Trump had a similar ad to that "Looking for America" ad, Ted Cruz might still say it's beautiful but would still find a way to insult Trump - if not for appealing to the masses, then for not being the "America" we deserve.
1:53 weird that they show the clip where he says madam secretary on this show...which is a CBS show....and madam secretary is a CBS show. How ironic!*sarcasm*
One thing I like about the clips with the candidates giving compliments to each other, is that it really highlights what the GOP lacks. Which is any sort of respect or courtesy for anyone else at all. In my mind, the person who we choose to be the leader of a country like America, should be a person that stands above the rest, with all the great qualities and attributes that someone in that position should possess. Things like civility, courtesy, respectfulness, honesty, unpretentious, motivated, empathetic, courageous. It would be someone whom even if they disliked an opposing candidate, would still remain professional and only address the policy issues and refrain from simple ad hominem attacks. Is there anyone on the GOP side who even remotely possesses any of these qualities????? Especially their front runner Donald Trump!! To say he's egotistical and arrogant, would not even begin to scratch the surface. He has the maturity level of a 7th grader. And he's the leading candidate in the GOP party!!?? What the hell is wrong with Republican voters!!??? Granted, given all their other options, Trump very well may be their best choice. But holy hell what does that say for Republicans???? Today I came across a friend who is a die hard conservative. On more than one occasion I've gotten into some heated debates with him on Obama. I asked him today which Republican was he leaning towards. His answer......HE DIDN'T HAVE ONE!! He seriously dislikes any of the choices that he's been given. WTH!!?? LOL Wow, is all I can say to that.
I'm confused, are people actually watching Colbert's show for updates on current affairs and for actual political information? Seems that way reading these asinine comments.
