I think she was trying to say something deeper...that didn't come across to the audience because of her broken English. That New York, far away from the land where she was born, is her karmabhoomi, the land where destiny has brought her to live, and do her karmic duty. My Indian immigrant mom says something very similar. Its a poignant attitude Indian women of that generation have; who likely never expected to leave their hometowns and their family and friends, but had to come to this foreign land when they married their husbands.

Paul Fox Thanks for the good words, dear friend. Yes, It was indeed nice to have Indian Culture put into perspective. As for the annoying troll, don't worry, unlike him I dont stereotype or judge an entire community on the basis of the opinion of a few. His words will not color my opinion of americans in general coz I'm mature enough. Thanks to all the good ppl for their kind words, and I suggest we do what Yo Mama proposed.

+Ankush Mudgal I wish that i could say the same about my countries culture and food but sadly i cannot because I am an American. I know that people come here because they won't be killed because of their religion and to find opportunity but I would prefer not having to deal with many of the people and social rules. Otherwise, that is good that you can be proud of your culture.

Fancy Mr. Colbert with knife skills. "No more fun" is the tagline of EVERY Indian mom's instructions ever. As is cooking way more food than anyone will ever be able to eat. She was basically your mom for a couple hours. Lost count of the number of times I've been chastised for not having a roti fluff properly. Love love love!!!! 😍

I just love when she was saying my son in law does it all the time.... & she was not able explain what is KARMA-BHUMI properly. May be because of language barrier. In a most simple way KARMA-BHUMI means IT'S A PLACE WHERE U WORK.

I have watched this so many times bursting into laughter every time. It was a pleasure to see a real Indian kitchen (not a set) and to see the real Indian hospitality by feeding her guests, deliciously prepared at home by Yamini Joshi. Both Yamini Joshi and Stephen Colbert were great. Thank you.

This was so heartwarming to watch! :) Thank you Stephen and everyone at The Late Show for this wonderful segment representing Indian culture, but also show casing the great concept of this organization! and then to have Killer Mike on the show the next day again expressing the importance of interacting with people of all different backgrounds... I didn't think I could love Stephen Colbert more but this is amazing!

Australia has same problem. 1995 they have gun control and now they have very less mass murder situation. just compare facts World trade center 2000 people die USA demolish two country. after 2000 to 2015 353 Mass shootings 62 shootings at schools 12,223 people killed in gun incidents 24,722 people injured in gun incidents means every day one american die in Gujarat India as per 2015 data 12 Gujarati people die from gun. total 225 homicide died (total Gujarati population 65 million) in USA only 0.2 million total Gujarati people population among them 22 parson die from gun. very SAD my dear friend @+amitj78 still you just want fear from bear you need good bulletproof jacket.

This is such a wonderful idea. Cooking with grandma's from around the world. But I don't think it's really going to build any bridges because the closed minded people who would benefit the most from trying to expose themselves to other cultures would never do this! You'd have to surprises attack them with the grandma's by sending them to their houses.
