I have to say his novel The Passage was the first sci-fi type of fiction I ever laid my hands on, as I tended to avoid this kind of books. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it very much and read all of his other writings, so my first experience with such books was marvellous. I was especially happy to read his (excellent) depiction of this post-apocalyptic world, a thorough and brilliantly written idea of how society would organize itself, great portrayal of characters, which I thought were all full, real personas with a story and a (developing) personality. He remains one of my favourite writers, despite my tendency toward differently themed books. I think he deserves all the praise in the world
