Fun fact: This is the only battle with a canon winner, because the real Stephen King conceded defeat. He also tried to later write some bars of his own, but wasn't confident in his results.
I still like Poe's insults better - Stephen was doing way more book title dropping. His biggest hit was the "perving on your 13 year old cousin". But yeah, the real Stephen was like "Poe won." 😅
I love this one, one of my all time favs! Especially the way that Poe is portrayed, so realistic. As amazing as Poe's flow is, King came in with the heavy uppercuts to win the battle. When talking authors, it's hard to beat a man as successful as Stephan King.
Edgar Allan Poe has been dead for nearly 200 years and we still read his books. He even has a football team named after one of his poems. I’d say that is pretty successful.
Easily one of their best, and yeah I think its overlookee because literature isnt popular amongst the general population .... unless it gets put on screen with dragons --.--
Thanks to scru and one or two others I - a metal-head - finally got to understanding the hip-hop/rap enough to properly appreciate these battles, not just the "cypher" wordplay aspect but the actual battle mechanics itself, and I got to see that ultimate stephen king is sayting he's on another level to poe by the end.
Man, thank you for these. I've seen them all but watching your enjoyment makes them even better. I subscribed several erb videos ago but I'm here to stay. You're a cool dude
And then you have both facing off in a full length battle as opposed to half of one like earlier( I'll let Jamel_AKA_Jamal discover which one that was).
I love both Poe & King so I just take pleasure in how many references to their work, as well as their lives, are packed into every line. Terrific! 💙📚💙📚💙
One of my favorites. But I hate how short Watsky/Poe's verses were. But I think that was probably due to how much is actually jammed into those verses due to how fast Watski can flow. I think that "shortness" is what put King over the edge for me despite how hard Poe's bars hit. King gets the win just because he had more time than Poe. And nothing more.
Yay, you finally did this one! It's so good! I just think Stephen King, for the most part, failed to make the most of his time. His lines were good, but because he went with a slower speed he couldn't get as much in. Like, his mentioning of Poe's works like The Pit and the Pendulum where he holds up hardcover books, it just feels like wasted time when he then follows it up with the 13 y/o cousin bit. Maybe that was the point, though, to make the punchlines feel punchier. I just love the, "You'll always have less/Nevermore" bit with the Raven, too.
Steven Kings Rhymes make you get that "Stanky" face! Did the same thing to me the first time I heard it!! lol "Im the Au-THOR , with the Blood and Gore Lore Galore, that will horrify a reader to the CORE" - That was Fire!
The only thing that disappointed me about this battle was that they didn't mention that King wrote even more books under a fake name just because he wanted to see if he could make it as a writer again without his name. Dude's such a good writer he did it twice.
This reminds me- for October, you should check out some of the music vids from The Merkins. They recreate different pop songs, but dressed as different horror movie characters. They're actually pretty good.
A couple of things that make this one stand out from the rest. Both of them are rappers outside of ERB. I don't know much about Zach except that he is a rapper and writer but Watsky has been a personal favorite for years. Also Watksy wrote his first verse in the same writing style as Poe (trochee). He did they same thing when he was William Shakespeare for a different ERB
Flow to flow category, Poe. Dis to dis, King. ERB has the legitness locked down. They knew what were doin every battle. There is no Edge to go over. It's fantasy art at its finest. What else are you gonna do? Have history icons fight physically, talk about each other's momma, breakdance, or see who can hold their breath the longest? Hands down, Rap Battles of History is the best way to do it. You only need to see one and you're hooked.
Glad to see that scheme from Sherwin getting appreciated. Dude can deliver an internal scheme like almost nobody else. For example, same guy played Voltaire and gave us the B Franks scheme from the philosophers battle. Of the regulars, my money's on him as the best rapper of the group, hands down.
Watsky (Poe) and Zack Sherwin (King) have insaaaaaane flows, lyricism and videos. You need to check out their stuff and react. Definitely will have you putting fire emojis all over your thumbnail.
Poe was SO freaking epic, but they put up a worthy competitor. I liked Poe better, but holy freaking heck, they made SK epic here. It is just well done in all aspects.
I will subscribe right now if you start reacting to Dan Bull game raps. Start with Civilization, maybe try The Crew (1 & 2), then hit up Fallout 4? Edit: Aight looks like I’m already subscribed. I got nothing.
This is one of my fave erbs. King won this one for sure. His lines hit way harder for me. I especially love his many of his own book references. No offense to Edgar Allan Poe who is the true horror lord but I prefer King's works
One of the bars I always find overrated is the "perving on your first cousin when she's 13 years old." It's a swing that only lands if you judge by modern standards. When Poe was alive it would have meant a lot of nothing.
