From the 1971 Tony Awards: Angela Lansbury presents Stephen Sondheim with his first Tony Award for the music to Company, immediately followed by Carol Channing presenting him with the Tony Award for lyrics.

as if I wasn't already in love with Sondheim, he had to go and be humble and credit his orchestrator and conductor, and then be all cute about winning his first award...oh yes, and Carole Channing. Enough said. Thank you for posting this!!!

Thank you for putting this up! I adore Sondheim and I've been wanting to hear his acceptance speeches (since many of them are before my time). Love it!

Oh man, right when he came out for the Lyricist award, I thought "I know what I'd say - winning 2 is even better!" And then, with different wording, he says just that. I just watched that Today Show interview with Sondheim where they said he is working on two new pieces presently. I sure hope he finishes them and they get on Broadway! Give us more to see, Steve. :)
