The way I use all of my third party amp sims to get Hi-Z load on the guitar is run the fender tweed in the “turned off” mode in the unison slot with my guitar plugged into hi-z on front then run the amp sim in the DAW or another UA amp sim on the aux channel and record the aux channel in the daw. But I just literally leave the Fender Tweed in that slot turned to off position.

I guess you have a rack mounted Apollo with two hi-z inputs? Try Strymon Deco. Plug your guitar into the Deco (or into TC Electronic Mimic or Keeley 30ms double tracker or stereo chorus) and then stereo into both hi-z inputs. You get to use two channels in the UA Console at once and you can use the same or different amps sims in each channel. Sounds absolutely fantastic.

You could 100% go that route too. More DSP intensive of course. That’s a good call though! The point of this video was to find a different approach for mono guitars to utilize the stereo features of some plugins. Brilliant approach though. It’s like the ultimate way to do it lol cheers!

Why not use one instance of your amp sim and add your stereo effects to the aux and just record the aux to a stereo channel in your daw?

Definitely one way of doing it. And I do use this technique. The main thing is that I’m using unison on both sources which is cool.

@@TheSteveKinney If you were to record from a pedal, capable of Stereo out, plug to both Hi-Z, separate channels sure but group them & pan, wouldnt that be the same thing ? The pedal does the splitting, may be not "true" stereo from many pedals but people do that into amp cabinets. So we would be doing the same here, just simulated cabinets.

@@ingolfurthorvaldsson7653 what I was demonstrating was how to get a stereo sound in console to track into your DAW with a mono source. I only used the stereo pedal to split the signal to demonstrate the null test with Unison on the front of the Apollo vs the back. Hopefully that makes sense. Additionally it was to also show how to keep from using two instances of the plugin. Hopefully that makes sense, it’s a very specific problem to solve. Of course - the way you describe would work as well - but that’s also in the scenario of using a stereo pedal for your input sound. Which is also important to recognize! Great point brotha! Cheers!

Hi Steve. I know it’s a bit off topic. But I could’nt help to notice you got so many insert points on each channel in your Console.app? Mine has only got 4 insert point. Is there some way to change this? It does’nt look like Luna in the beginning or? Maybe it is Luna, and then it’s just me. I don’t use Luna. Thanks, and Thanks for your good educating videos. Cheers.

Unfortunately the Fender amp takes up an entire DSP chip.

Haha yeah this is not going to work if you're like me, using a Solo 😅 Fortunately, we don't have to use the Fender to get the impedance mojo, like Drew pointed out in one of their Office Hours. You can use a plugin like TS808 in the Unison slot, and as long as it is on - or off (with the power cord attached of course) - it is active and will still give you the same result!

@@davidgardell I use an Arrow at home/on the road, but have an X8 and Twin in my studio. I'm not a fan of any of the UAD amps but use the Friedman, 2203, and Herbert when I don't have my fractal with me, or the Neural DSP plugs. UA really needs to up their amp game and needs to make an IR Loader plugin.
