This video provides an overview of the stereochemistry of organic compounds and defines what exactly a chiral carbon center is. This video also shows you how to assign R and S configuration to a chirality center whenever the hydrogen (4th group) atom is in the front, back, or neither. It also discusses nomenclature - how to name organic compounds using R and S absolute configuration. It provides a lot of examples and practice problems.

I converted the newman projection to a stick model first. The parts on the left go on dashes and the parts on the right go on wedges. On carbon 2 Cl is on a dash and H is on a wedge. Cl is 1, the carbon bonded to Br is 2, the carbon bonded to OH is 3, and H is 4. Numbers increased going CCW so that would be S, but because H is wedged it is R. On carbon 3 Br is on a wedge and H is on a dash. Br is 1, the carbon bonded to Cl is 2, the CH3 is 3 and H is 4. Numbers increased CCW so that would be S. I still get (2R,3S)-3-bromo-2-chloro-1-butanol. @@joshualogronio4772

1. Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the Verses of the Wise Book. 2. Is it a wonder to the people that We inspired a man from among them: “Warn mankind, and give good news to those who believe that they are on a sound footing with their Lord”? The disbelievers said, “This is a manifest sor￾cerer.” 3. Your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then settled over the Throne, governing all things. There is no in￾tercessor except after His permission. Such is Allah, your Lord-so serve Him. Will you not reflect? 4. To Him is your return, altogether. The promise of Allah is true. He originates crea￾tion, and then He repeats it, to reward those who believe and do good deeds with equity. As for those who disbelieve, for them is a drink of boiling water, and agonizing tor￾ment, on account of their disbelief. 5. It is He who made the sun radiant, and the moon a light, and determined phases for it- that you may know the number of years and the calculation. Allah did not create all this except with truth. He details the revelations for a people who know

As the figure is drawn, it should be...which would make 9 stereocenters, not 8. But when I looked up cholesterol, the double bond is actually between C-5 and C-6 not as you've shown it. I learn a lot from you. But can u change the colour of background. It hurts my eyes and I get headaches, or maybe it’s because the colour you write with is more shiny. Thank u. 😊

In 21:20 how did u say OH group has higher priority over thr BR aren’t we suppose to determine priority according to atomic numbers? And if so BR atomic number is (35) while O has 8

When naming the molecule, we don’t name based on atomic number. We name based on the priority, and hydroxyl groups have a higher priority than Br.

Found this and I just had to like and Subscribe. I am in my 2nd year studying BSC in Public Health Nutrition and this course has been challenging for me, but your explanations have made my life easy. I will be handing in my assignment on Monday 15/08/22 and I am hoping to ace it. ❤️

At 21:09, why is the OH group prioritized over Br when numbering? I thought Br would have higher priority bc it has a higher atomic number and it's farther to the right on the periodic table. If anyone could help fill me in that'd be great! :)
