I'm starting training for this in august. After working in customer service for so long, it will be nice to work in an environment where I don't have to deal with angry customers. I really think I'm going to love this.
I've been doing this job for 18 years. I'm a senior technician/team leader and totally love my job. Have to say though that this place is very quiet, our unit it totally manic as we cover 5 major hospitals and numerous cottage hospitals, still it makes the day go fast! We are totally overlooked by the medical profeesion and Donna is right without us we could render a hospital useless in 24 hours! Keep up the good work.
I just got hired too, no experience or schooling...im nervous ...Start july 10...can you guys tell me how your first day went and if you are liking the job
My first day went great! I have only been working about 3 weeks and I'm catching on very fast. It is a lot of information but it's definitely not hard. You'll do great!
I was working in dietary and applied for this position and got hired with no experience i was super nervous because its alot to remember..alot of instruments look alot alike but are called different things...i been working in this department for almost 3 years and its a great experience! Now im ready to move on to be a scrub tech all thanks to spd lol
classicstorm they prefer people with certification but it’s all about how well you present yourself during the interview process. I worked in EVS for 2 years at a hospital before landing a sterile processing job at Globus Medical... that was in 2018, left the company in 2019 and am now working at Baylor Scott and White and have been exposed to sooooo much more information that I had zero idea about lol. It’s all about confidence! And I’m sure my knowledge with how to handle certain types of biohazard chemicals/waste/sharps played a part as well.
I’m 23.. growing up I was always a sick child, endured many many surgeries. Then When I turned 18 I was diagnosed with cancer and had several surgeries as part of my treatment plan... never did I consider the people who did the sterilization for the surgical equipment.. this video was an eye opener for sure and I have a newfound appreciation for all they do. This video was amazing to watch. Thank you
I'm starting this program in a few days and it lasts about 9 months it starts with your standard book work and then moves on to lab work and then you go extern at a facility and then you would be hired on so it's a pretty long process
You indicated you've only been working there for 3 months when this video was made...your a freaking pro, they are blessed to have such a dedicated and educated employee working at that hospital...God love you 💕
how are u doing in Surg Tech Prog?..My Surg Tech Prog starts in a few weeks..Im excited but I know its hard work...and it will pay off when we are done. My program is 18mths
Donna Reich offers the viewing public a sincere, open, and direct presentation into the job duties that belong to a Sterile Processing Technician. I just learned about such a job a couple of months ago, and boy was I pleased to find such an informative and helpful video presentation as this one that Donna Reich starred in. Thanks, much!
Just got hired by SPD at my hospital. I went from being a floor Tech to this and it's a major step up. From watching this i can see that the next few months are gonna be tough learning everything but I'm confident.
I think all hospitals throughout need to start paying more for these position not only is hard work but realistically even if your at $13 hr who can live off of that. Without SPT docs can't operate patients which tells me that the salary that SPT make is way below what it should be. Surgical Techs are also on the low end if you ask me $45,000 yr in some states. All the hard work yet easy for docs to come in and make a good $100 hr or more. I think these positions need to be reevaluated by Human resources and the CEO of each hospital because something has to give. You have medical assistants getting paid $16 hr. While SPT are getting paid $10-14. And the workload is alot lighter for MA checking patients in and out. REEVALUATION on salary is what needs to be done.
Currently a certified sterile technicians at Morgan plant hospital in Tampa it’s a lot of information but you literally do the same routine everyday it became so easy after good luck to everyone
Wonderfully done video. I'm a CST for 3 years. There are days that I forget how long it takes to sterilize just one instrument. Sterile processing is the heart of the hospital.
That was a damn good fold on that pack. I’m still molding my craft on the folding aspect of my job. I work in a small hospital so we do everything between three techs. There has been so much to learn on this journey and it’s been crazy.
Can you give me some information about what school or program you are online I want to start as soon as possible but hard to decide what is the best school or program to do online
@@yessicatorres8163 you can look up Purdue university sterile processing tech course. It’s self paced and cost about 400 dollars. I got the information off the actual certification exam website. I hope this info helps.
I am encouraged and look forward to getting into this field. Donna is very articulate and straight forward.

Thank you very much Donna for teaching us. Yesterday Ive had an interview about Sterile Services Department at St. George's Hospital in London. I did not know anything about. I will go through this video to learn.
This is a brilliant inside look on the sterilization process that happens in hospitals. It is one of the most critical processes that should never be skipped, great job Donna!
I look at this video every day it truly inspires me, Thank You So Much, I’m highly considering taking the class, my Little Sis advised me to, I’m Praying on it and feel good about it. 👍🏽👍🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
My sister-in-law does this, and I always tried to picture what the work environment would look like. Now I know! Thanks for the video and thanks for keeping people alive with clean instruments!
This is the best sterile processing video on youtube. I just got hired a month ago as a sterile processing tech and this video thought me a lot. I wish they had shown this video before i started working because your very detailed and you demonstrated everything perfectly. Thank you very much and a Big Thank You to Donna. Keep up the good work :)
just getting into the field myself and starting my clinical's this video was very informative and i'm looking forward to doing sterile trays, and learning the instruments.
"Many Thanks" (Donna), for a wonderful presentation indeed!" ... "It's amazing, you're performing like a: "PRO" already!" ... (smile) ... "Keep up the great detailed work, and blessings & best wishes to you, in your new future endeavors!" ... "Sincerely, your RU-vid Watcher, Ms. Deborah J. Steele - 5/04/18
I can believe she did learn this in a couple semesters. She only needed a healthy understsnding of Microbioloy and the ability to detailed oriented. I know I'm a geek and I want to be be a Rn but I love and appreciate all parts of the process that help us stay safe from harmful pathogens when and if we do have to have a surgery. Thanks so much for this video.💖💖💖
I want to thank you so much for this video . I'll be starting my new job in Virginia March 2023 as a Sterile Processor Tech1. Watching your video makes me a lil bit nervous but excited at the same time. I'll be watching more of your videos
I'm going into the field in 2 months. I am certified and really looking forward to it as well as I'm nervous. I'm glad she made this video at 3 months because it helps me as a new person see the support. I'm nervous because it's been a bit over a year since I went to school, I'm glad I recognized everything discussed and I'm hoping to be a nice as Donna. I was a bit worried that my age and I'm a bit out of shape would be a struggle but I think I will be able to handle things as the focus will keep my mind off anything too physically strenuous. I was a McDonald's manager for 3 years and had to lift heavy loads coming in as well as break down a kitchen at night so I imagine this can't be worse than that 😅 I look forward to getting started to I can see if this is going to be a fit long term, it seems like a lucrative career 😀
It’s not really. Decontamination might be a little tough since you got on PPE and it can get a little hot. The blood and other bodily tissue, you can get used to over time. It’s no big deal believe me, I’m very a squeamish person.
I just got written in to a 15 week course at a local hospital in the hopes of being a SPT. I work in computers now and just needed a change where I felt my job mattered more and something that got me moving. Happy to know I will be moving! I'm a bit nervous about the change of fields, but this is a nice intro to see where I'm hopefully headed.
Yes There are many college offer sterile processing technician courses. I graduated from Columbus Technician College in 2010. Took IAHCSMM exam and passed CRCST exam. Certified Registered Sterile Processing Technician since 2010.
I’ve watched this video a few times over the past few months because I find it so useful. I just got hired as a sterile processor in Louisiana and am excited for my first day.
Great video. The technician is a mature woman with a wealth of prior work experience (technical anything or just a love of details) at her disposal which she brings to this new position. She is patient, interested in the work, and wants to do a through job. I did this job 30 years ago and yes Rudy Figueroa is not wrong ;)
+Daniel Saucedo I heard it's different for all areas but in PA jobs start pay around $16hr and up to $29hr after 1-2yrs of experience.. I can't speak for any other state but I'm sure no state's starting pay is under $12-13hr.
+Freddy Placencia you can google travel CRCST to find companies in your area that do this. But basically you are hired by a company. They contract you out to hospitals to come work. The contract can be wks/months. In most areas you can do this "locally " within certain mileage of your "base" some are more nationally. But start with a Google search to find the companies in your area and then you can schedule a meet and greet or look at their website.
Even though this video is 9yrs old still a great reference for SterileProcessing, the process is still pretty much the same to now except the towel clips (never seen them before) and Genesis pan are rarely used nowadays. For people interested in this field check out my SterileProcessing playlist.
Can’t wait to go to school to do this..it’s all based on memory and putting your mind to something you know you are going to love & just come to work to collect a paycheck..
It's interesting rewatching this as a now experienced tech. I originally watched this video to get an idea of what SP techs did before I started. Its already been more than a year and it's really cool to come back and know everything shes doing, and compare their SPDs process/Setups.
@@levity90 theres a lot to learn but it becomes easier and easier everday. Hours are dependent on who your employer is. I work 40 hours a week minimum and only work on 2nd shift (3pm-11:30pm)
@@WhatKenPlays hey sir in all honesty as you can see here some people from the comments claim to have gotten the job without any school etc. I on the other hand have infection control instructions classes .. I was a dental assistant do you think I can land a job just like them but with even more knowledge than they????
@@juankroosfrausto7411 depends on your state. I landed the job with no medical background. I was handy with automotive tools and that is a good perk for someone to have. I caught on to the instruments quicker than most. We had a dental assistant get hired here, and she worked well. I don't see why not it should be pretty easy for you to land, although a dental assistant job should be higher pay.
I've always been fascinated by this since I was 15. I walked past the sterilisation room when I was on my way to visit Somebody in hospital. (I saw this really good looking guy in there near a metal cupboard which at the time I thought was an oven 😂). Anyway I'll be looking for a job in this line of work It's so interesting to me.
I currently work for the USPS and applied for SPT. I had been interested in this field for a while now. I see more and more hospitals offering this job with little to know experience on the condition that you will get certified after 12 months. I really enjoyed this video because it was clear, precise and really cool. I really hope I get the opportunity and if even if I don't I think I will take the course. Seems like a really cool job that is also rewarding. The compensation should be a lot higher actually.

What a great video! Thanks for sharing! Im going to be hands on training while taking online course for SPT and your video gives me so much insight :) best video ive seem on here 👍
I'm recently new in SPD I can this job is job in itself 😂 At one point you feel like you're a restaurant dishwasher and other time you feel like you're working in office 😃 It's both ways I love it
Just applied to start getting certified in this and I'm up for the challenge super excited! I've been a doing sterilization tech at a dentist office for 5 years now and I'm only 24 ❤️ wish me luck!
its Dippendes upon which kind of Hospital ur Working Ur Knowledge nd Speed , the Hospital Am working 12 OT so our work must Speed nd gut Knowledge abt Steri. so knw all r In Charges in Different Hospital . thats Normal .
There is really no room for error in this position. Can't get cut with any of those sharps and making sure you don't get any bodily fluids on you. Someone suggested I go for this but I must admit I'm a little scared.
Jorge Perez honestly dont be scared . im taking an 11 month course to do this and im more excited then scared. It deffinitely helps having previous job experience in a workplace where you have to be 100 percent accurate and have to remember alot of steps, but go for it. its a job that once you get used to its basically routine
i'm starting at a hospital tomorrow. starting pay is between 8.50-10.00 but pay will increase longer you stay. it's a good job but look into something else like surgical technology. Im only starting this because im having trouble with finding what i got trained to do. So i'll be starting tomorrow and all the ppl ive met are really nice.
