I purchased this before moving to India in 2016. The smiley face disappeared and went dark on 2017. I hadn't used it in 5 years. Took it out, charged it and the light comes on for purification. Great product.

With dirty water I assume you need to filter the water first?

Water with debris correct. But that’s no problem. Just use coffee filter paper for a cheap way of doing it. Or you could get a old pair of jeans and make a denim handkerchief to cover the opening of the water bottle 👍.

Yes, sediment etc should be pre filtered & can affect the ability for the UV light to reach all of the water.

I use a milbanks bag. Works quite well, and I just fill it up and hang it. Easy enough.
