I bought one in Olympic White and I was so Impressed with the Sound & Playability. The neck and frets were fantastic and sounds great with my Fender Rumble 100. Great little Bass. oNe LovE from NYC
Hey Jayme. This is by far a better bass that you've reviewed so far. I have the sub 4. It's a real snappy bass. Throw a Darkglass capsule in it and hold onto your shorts. It has this clean, snappy, low growl like non other, that I can think of.
I love the sounds you got out of this, 5 years ago I was close to getting an original music man sterling, but decided on another bass which I also love, I'd buy one as you say for the size & price plus be easier to get the grandchildren playing with a short scale such as this, so it's a double thumbs 👍 👍up from me, great channel 😁
I'm looking into one of these now. Even in dropped copper! I have a sterling SUB series but it'd just too large and heavy for me, otherwise I'd be playing it a lot more.
Glad to see that Dracula approves of the short scale Sting Ray! *Darn* , I guess you *have* to keep it... 😂Fantastic review!!! While it does retain that Sting Ray essence, using the 3 position Single/Series/Parallel switch with the passive tone control, you can really get pretty close to a P-Bass and a J-Bass, too! The short scale Sting Ray has got me considering converting my Ray35HH to passive...
thanks! did it work? ;) and for punk rock with a pick check out this video around the 8:20 mark ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z9cPiwrSY50.html
how the hell are you getting such a twangy slap tone from a short scale bass w only one hum bucker pickup? my stingray just sounds warm and dark when I try to slap
While I agree that you're a great player, your review of this bass leaves much to be desired. You fail to mention the pickup coil switching options and the volume boost option. Also, I would think most bassists would want to hear the straight up sound of the instrument not the processed sounds like you are showing here. Too much emphasis on slap and not enough on other styles of music. Also, there is no way that this sounds like a P bass at all. The way you have it mixed it sounds like an overly compressed Jazz bass on the bridge pickup. It's a nice burp but it has no fatness nor bottom punch like you get with P and flats. As an owner of one of these basses I can tell you that it is capable of many more sounds and tones than you are showing here.
