I love this. You could see how much they adored and loved one another. And when Steve Allen sang that song to them for their anniversary. I thought Steve Lawrence was going to cry. He always treated Eydie like a queen even up to the end. RIP Eydie.
We hat a show, no tv like thus anymore. My hubby loved Steve Allen ❤ 💙 ♥, Steve, Eydie were always the best. They truly loved ❤ ♥ 💕 singing together and mostly, loved eachother ❤ ♥ 💕 it showed
I worked with him. These days we would say he is on the spectrum, very remote and cold to people. Brilluant in every day. His most wonderful wife, jayne meadows always said, "dont pay any attention to him. He is just very shy and gets nervous before shows." He was brilliant. When the network wanted his new york night show to go national, they said it had to be without steve and eydie because they did not want jews. Steve said no. Steve and Eydie come with me or I dont go. I have always respected him enormously for taking that stance
They don’t make them that great any longer - Steve and Eydie you were the greatest and I have the best memories of listening to your beautiful voices in all my youth and happy times ..
Wow.....what heart-felt talent. Steve and Eydie are tremendous.....and a talent extraordinaire is Steve Allen....loved him on the Tonight Show as well....
I love this so much - and I wish there were still shows like this for musicians & singers. I can’t believe that this is where Bill Maher got his start... how great!!
I was around watching them on The Ed Sullivan Show; but I enjoy The Music From Steve and Eydie so much more!!!! Steve and Eydie have no competition! They are unique and smooth as silk! I miss them so!!!!!!
Trained, not gifted. People good at their craft have put in the 10,000 hours to get there. NOBODY is born talented. Nobody. There is no "Gift". It's all hard work.
Steve Lawrence born on July 8, 1935 died March 7, 2024 he was 88. He is now with his Eydie again. Singing beautiful songs together again in Heaven for Lord Jesus Christ Rest in Peace Steve and Eydie. Two of our Lord Jesus Christ 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Yes, on writing to Steve on the sad passing of Eydie I commented that she had one of the great voices of popular song. Steve was forever the first to praise the talent he had the privilege to be with for over 50 years. Not only probably the most talented singing duo but truly a special couple.
What a wonderful hour! I've been a Terry Gibbs Dream Band fan since I "found" them in the 1960s, so this was real treat. Likewise, I've loved Steve and Eydie for years, and saw them a few times, live. Thank you so much for posting this treasure. If only we could have this sort of stuff on today............
Wow what a fantastic show ! I never saw this before. How genuine and really entertaining in a classy funny way. I adore the mentality of before when people were still well-mannered and all that cursing like nowadays was not in style. I discovered Eydie Gorme here on RU-vid ( Thanks RU-vid ! 🌞) and was immediately blown away by her voice, even more in Spanish. I studied her songs for my Spanish class. Now I am even discovering these fantastic performances of Eydie, Steve and other stars of back in the day. It is so refreshing to watch these exquisite performers. I am now 45 , but I just love and adore the older music. Lots of love and respect from Belgium.💯👍🍀👋❤️
LOVE Steve & Eydie. Steve Lawrence was so good-looking, had such a superb voice and style, and came across as a thoroughly nice, decent guy. Also love Steven Allen & gorgeous, sophisticated Jayne Meadows. RIP all of you. Wish we had people like this in show business today. A different world.
Wow!! That song "Steve & Eydie" composed by Steve Allen is so beautiful!! I cried so much while listening to the song. Really really nice, wonderful song and lyrics.
They billed the band "Terry Gibbs and His All Star Orchestra," and that is not hyperbole! The band consisted of some of the absolute best studio musicians in the business. These musicians could sight read these superb arrangements with incredible accuracy and pizzazz!!! It doesn't surprise me though, knowing Steve's commitment to excellence when it comes to music. BTW, bandleader Terry Gibbs is still with us. He will be 99 in a couple of months!!!
I honestly think the star of the show was the bass player. He must’ve been a studio musician, but he was there every second of the time and driving a lot of what was going on.
@@sailordent Chuck Berghofer is one of the greatest bass players in the business and my friend. He's still alive and working (a lot), but most the band is gone.
I see yet another additional uncredited piano player, the very talented Terry Trotter who was Steve and Eydie's piano player playing right behind S&E when they sung. In 1983 this was a who's who of the finest LA session musicians! Wow!
We lived in Burbank for many years and were fortunate to witness history. It was early TV, live and Steve Allen was famous in Hollywood to seek out serious talent. While the show seemed a little silly and goofy at times, don't be fooled folks. Musicians and guests were real pros and most of them built careers well into the future. These videos bring back sweet memories of a bygone era. Thanks for the great post!
I was SO fortunate to have seen them multiple times at Westbury music fair. They were magnificent, their orchestra was outstanding, their rapport on stage, the schticloch, the jokes and banter between them, came as a result of talent, hard work and a lifetime of dedication. Nevermore.
Here in the UK (and even more so the musical and cultural desert that is Scotland) we had daytime shows like Pebble Mill at One where you had maybe Jack Jones on to sing 2 numbers, and other quality guests of this genre but I'd have given my left left to have been around when shows like this were aired in the US. My favourite big band, so many superb MUSICAL guests - no awful reality TV fillers for the masses. The UK TV channels certainly catered to the musically illiterate in copious supply then, and it's so much worse now. This is a joy to watch.
Steve Allen as usual a pure class of a show from this most versatile of artist. Steve & Eydie probably the most talented popular music singing duo. So very special - Mr & Mrs Entertainment.
This show is excellent from start to finish. I miss all of them so much, though I feel lucky that this and other videos exist, and that I can still listen to their music. We didn’t know how good we had it until we didn’t have it anymore. Thanks so much for posting this!
Two of the all-time best withouta doubt...head and shoulder above anything that purports to be talent in the (c)rap era of noise...this is real music the way GOD meant it to be. The nicest thing I can say is a quote from Old Blue Eyes, the Chairman of the Board, Francis Albert Sinatra. When asked "What is it like to be the greatest singer of all time?" Sinatra said "I wouldn't know, you'd have to ask Steve Lawrence."
First of Eydie’s recordings I recall hearing was “I’ll Take Romance”. in a record store MANY years ago. I stopped, mesmerized. Several years ago I met her when we were both at Columbia Records. She was as lovely a person as she was a beautiful singer
As much as I adore Edie's singing style I do wish they would both hold that microphone closer so that I could hear that dynamic soulful voice above the accompaniment. Edi love you.
Dear TGmovier. Thank you very kindly for uploading these rare Disney Channel originals of 1983. I can finally enjoy these one of a kind programs that i was unable to see when i was a kid in the eighties. Reason for that my parents wasn't spending unnecessary money for a cable box for more pay cable 📺 in the house. HBO was more than enough. And i was getting bad grades in school because i focused on too much television already. What a shame. But once again. Thank you so much for reviving Steve Allen's Music Room.
I knew Steve back in 1953/1954. My name is Stuart Krell. I played tenor sax with Lionel Kaplan's Thomas Jefferson dance band. Steve did play as i recall an alto sax. He wasn't a very good sax player, but he had a singing voice that came straight from heaven. The most beautiful voice you could want to hear. I also remember that a show that we presented to the school called Student Aid. In that show then "Sid" now "Steve" sang. Seated in that auditorium was a gentlemen (talent scout), and if my memory recalls, by the name of Fred Steel. It was this gentlemen that introduced Steve to Steve Allen. He was the person that started Steve's career. Steve went on to join the Steve Allan Tonight Show. In life we all need a lucky break. I believe Steve would have achieved his great singing, acting career anyway. Steve, i have enjoyed your music throughout all the years. You are in my prayers.
Steve brought them with him. NBC didn’t want them as NBC was run by antisemites. Steve said They come WITH me or I don’t go. Steve Allen was an awesome talented gentleman. Bless his Soul! I love them all.
Steve Allen was a multi-faceted Entertainer, Author, Compser, Musician and the original host of "The Tonight Show." Terry Gibbs was outstanding! Several of the guys from Doc Severinsen's, "Tonight Show" Band jammed out. "Good Stuff!"
I LOVE THEM AND ALL!!!! THE MUSICIANS AND MUSIC ARE PERFECTION!!! LOVE THAT JAYNE!!!! I wish these performers would be on every night!!!! I loved them as a child and am so happy to hear them sing!!! God Bless all!!! :)
I was around in the fifties when Steve and Eydie were my favorites. Including my starter wife. We were married on the same day they were. I think Valentine's day 1957.
Always loved Steve Allen..This was a great show that brought tears to my eyes because!!!!when he did the tonight show before CARSON HE WAS VERY GOOD TOO..Steve/Edie/Don Knotts/and Louie Nye ha ha the man on the street bits were so funny..then jose Jimenez....They did this show one week a year at the Ambassador Hotel Pool. my dad managed THE HOTEL AND THE FAMOUS NIGHTCLUB IN THE HOTEL 'The world famous 'Coconut Grove'in Los Angeles....Its now the Robert Kennedy high school...I used to go outside the pool area when they did the show..I met everyone and played putt putt golf with them all..I won,I played everyday..lol..I was 13/14 years old..Steve also did the same thing at the Saxony Hotel in Miami Beach when dad managed two hotels, the Saxony and the Fountainebleau hotel..I was in 11th grade...
Did you mean CDs I don't have any DVDs of Steve and Eydie? I've been collecting their music since I was 18 I'm 68 now. It doesn't get any better than Steve and Eydie!!!..🤗
My family loved Steve and Edye so much that followed their schedules in Variety and if they were performing in Las Vegas we packed and went to see them!
I wasn't paying attention to the announcer until Steve said Bill Maher. Went back and listened and, yep, the comedian. And for those in the know, Tommy Tedesco was one of the Wrecking Crew.
