Excellent insights, practical advise and tips about starting, growing and scaling your company by Steve Blank. This video should be "required" watching for anyone considering or currently launching a startup. Steve shares his vast knowledge and sage wisdom for entrepreneurs, especially in regard to product development, listening to customers and critical steps to starting and growing a business. Love his "behind the curtain" expertise & tips on sales, VC secrets, failure and listening to customers by getting outside your building. Bravo!

Man I love real oldschool nerds. This guy is great! Thanks for the excellent content! Just a heads up, I'm an audio engineer and producer, there is a strange low mid nasally muffled tinge to both speakers that I'm guessing is coming from the lav mics. Might wanna try swapping those out. I don't hear the same issue with the HH wireless in the audience. It's not anything 99.9999% of people would notice, but just a heads up. Thanks again!

Theres a question that I've been dying to ask Mr. Blank. If your goal is to get funding from people who are going to eventually replace you with an operating executive once your business is scalable, then what's in it for you to find a feasible business model? If you won't reap the liquidity of your company, then do they give you some kind of severance check? How will you be compensated for your hard work?
@JinGwee

+Matthew Pinkney You own part of your company, and you can cash out. There are a few people who managed to stay in power though, like mark zuckerberg

The exchange at the end alone is worth the investment of time. You have to align the customer pain point with the pay point - the quicker and more efficiently you discover this the greater the likelihood you can build a sustainable business. My opinion is that VC investment Should be delayed, hopefully permanently, until this alignment of pain and payments is demonstrable.

Good advice if you are a start up with financial backing, fact is most start ups are small scale businesses that consist of one maybe two people, who have no money or very little. This is where advice is needed, ok listening, going out to meet the customer is obvious enough, it is getting those contacts that maybe are in another country (not all small start ups aim for their own town), how to find them who to speak too, what advantages do I have, how does business work etc etc, ok sales people understand this but start ups don't they develop a product/idea and have no idea how the game works and no finances to employ someone who does. I would not be surprised if many great ideas are not out there because someone could not go it alone. Yes I have developed a product that is very unique and global potential, have had sound feedback but no understanding of how it all works now? wasting a lot of time looking for advice on youtube and never quite finding it.

Pat Castlearchers Curious about how your product is doing now? Have you considered face to face advice with a organization like SCORE? They are national. How about an Incubator. I've done SCORE twice in the past, and they've been helpful.

@38:48 I'm not sure it has to do with a belief system, it's just that you usually want to give it some time so that you can understand how a change will influence your whole model. That's about it.

Question for everyone - how do you get user feedback (b2c) on a sw product before investing to even build an mvp? I thought about sending an Adobe xd wireframe design out to test a concept and get feedback. To understand if people would pay for it, I thought I'd offer a ~$40 lifetime membership (the service would be about $10-20/mo) once built... how have others done it?
