My mom died in November, I was 12 years old. This song just blows me away. She was so sick, and I did not get to say good bye. I was 12 years old, when she died. The pain stays with me today, and forever. I am 72 years old, and still this song makes my heart hurt. I never got to say Goodbye, and when I die I will hug her gently, in heaven, and the smile on my face will live forever.
I can feel the pain in your heart as plainly as that which is in my very soul ...........let this song, which was written and performed by an imperfect man .........begin our journey to a place of love and enlightenment. GODS GRACE
This is the saddest song I have ever heard. I often wonder how he has the fortitude to perform it. I would be a wreck if I tried to sing it for anyone.
Solid fan here. Have gratefully seen you in person in great setting at The Winery. We share the loss of a son. My son was also a talented amazing person. He was 32 yrs old. These are losses that don’t compare to any! So so sad. Not a day goes by…I am grateful for what we had. Townes was amazing. I can say I feel your pain and others like us. I cannot comprehend the Universe, so I can’t resent it.
I agree that it's the best and saddest song, but I also know that it comes from a place of recovery from an addiction that nearly killed him. It's a song of strength at the broken places, and survival, too. I will drop everything to watch a Steve Earle video, from the times when he was a young musician playing with Rodney Crowell, Guy Clark, and of course, Townes, to the present day. He's one of our greats.
Thank you Steve. Lost me Mum yesterday. I didn't get to say goodbye. My heart is breaking. But I get can say goodbye with that melody. Playing piano right along with it. Goodbye Mum. Annie Lindsay Smith ❤🎗️🏴🇫🇮🇨🇦🇬🇧🇨🇮🛡️
I remember holdin' on to you All them long and lonely nights I put you through Somewhere in there I'm sure I made you cry But I can't remember if we said goodbye But I recall all of them nights down in Mexico One place I may never go in my life again Was I just off somewhere just too high But I can't remember if we said goodbye I only miss you here every now and then Like the soft breeze blowin' up from the Caribbean Most Novembers I break down and cry But I can't remember if we said goodbye But I recall all of them nights down in Mexico One place I may never go in my life again Was I just off somewhere just too high But I can't remember if we said goodbye Goodbye, goodbye. Songwriters: Steve Earle

This storyline started in my portfolio ..a very substantial body of work about 3” thick handwritten or copied from handwritten that contracted to artists Barbra Widdish Way and Matt with one term and condition: that if they used the material it would make me famous. Barbra released a copy shortly thereafter she and Allison Moorer performed using some of this material at a SongWriters concert on Hilton Head South, Carolina in 1998/1999 at Self Family Arts…. No mention of the writer/author Ron Belin ..her release was entitled ‘Mouthful of Rain’ She performed using this material with . As I say, with Allison Moorer who less than one year( approximately) was nominated for an Academy award using one of the storylines contracted to Barbara: A Soft Place To Fall which Allison performed at those award ceremonies….no mention of Ron Belin, the writer. Matt, Barbara Way’s frequent partner in local entertainment on HHI almost simultaneously opened a recording studio near Hollywood. From the Oscar’s nomination for a Soundtrack on ‘The Horse Whisperer’ until 6 published CD’s later Allison and her husbands and others used lyrical compositions from that portfolio contracted to Barbra Way for almost every cut on those of her first releases: no mention of the writer, Ron Belin. Allison Moorer has since recorded and released music with Steve Earle using material from that portfolio and Earle has released solo recordings using the same portfolio material as well as with EmilLou Harris who has released solos using material from my portfolio as well as recorded and released music using material from that same portfolio with Ryan Adams and Patti Griffin: no mention of the lyricist, Ron Belin. Ryan Adams has collaborated with Oasis for the Wonderwall storyline and Morning Glory, Both from the same aforementioned portfolio..with Iron Maiden, with Alice In Chains, Rhatt, for the recording ‘Mother’ And with E Harris for lyrics from that portfolio that they attribute to Graham Parsons….no mention of Ron Belin’s Portfolio. A storyline from that portfolio, When Stars Go Blue, has been released/recorded by the Corrs Under the auspices of Ryan’s authority where that family performs my material with Bono of U2: No mention of the original source, Ron Belin’s Portfolio. And it goes on.

dillon is some kind of entertainer who doesnt even come close...dylan might have the verse somewhere close...far as music goes and ancient giant named Franz List has one that is equal ( my opinion ) called "Liberstraume" translated ( Dreams of Love ) ....spelling is MY BAD !
Just imagine big fat sweaty steve earle holding on to you His yellow teeth and bad breath breathing on to you, Somewhere in there im sure steve made her cry But hes a junkie so he cant remember if he said goodbye 😂
if only that wasn't true......so sad...let him be a warning to you young losers...you - who can't sing. Locked up 2 times in prison, the smells that could make the driver of a gut wagon at the chicago livestock district puke his guts out. We be talkin man smells
