Every professional underestimates their talent. Have you seen professionals when there's a branch in their way of their backswing or followthrough? They hit the shot, almost always as good as if they were in the fairway; with a totally different looking swing. The moment of impact is the magic, and they KNOW instinctively how to do it with almost any kind of backswing.
You nailed it. I've recently taken a couple of playing lessons with a Korn Ferry Tour player, and he says "golf isn't positions, it's hitting shots, moving the ball, hitting your 4 iron 150 if you have to, shaping shots, etc.". I get it. The pros are just so, so talented.

I am swinging inward more and more the past 6 months...still shooting high scores, but the ball sometimes takes off like a rocket, indicating if I can get it right my scores should improve...as a senior the loss of distance had been alarming, this is a remedy...
@@jimodonnell5099 you're actually pretty dumb man. I'm a plus handicap golfer and this is some pretty advanced stuff that elk teaches. None of this would help someone who shoots a 100 on 18. It's advanced tweaking for ppl who already shoot in the 60s and 70s. Which sounds like it isn't you...
