Brilliant set this....here you can see steve clearly developing his own unique style..the writing..the playing and the shackles of genesis finally broken much was their loss...have followed him ever since he left the band and never doubted he would make it on his own....up to the present as he takes the old genesis stuff out on the road which is what us old die hards desperately wanted ...nice to see his brother john lining up aswell which must have been a proud moment. ..Steve you are a fantasticly gifted guitarist and songwriter and as much as I love the whole genesis family when you left the whole romance of the band went with you ...great to see your career went from strength to strength and on a final note loved the new book...well done mate!
I think that Genesis would have remained a much more interesting band had Hackett stayed. I saw him around this time and wasn't sure what to expect. It was very loud and very powerful. I was blown away
@@Dabberontour too true. What’s funny is they’re buddies these days. Steve praises Tony for his work, Tony also praises Steve for his work. Sometimes going solo just improves bonds!
I watched Steve 1977 in Zurich, his last time with Genesis, then again in 1980 in Montreux like in this video, and then once more end of 2019 at the Beyeler Art Museum in Basel in a small acoustic set. Liked this guy and his music always very much.

Merci Steve Hackett d avoir le Génie de composer cette sublime Prog Music , my Best , and Live with brother John ! ( c est un Clin D oeil a tes compos avec Peter Gabriel pour The Lamb Steve , Brother John !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! )
Of course he is, I appreciate him very much. But must we really watch his back at 2:40 (as if he was an accountant signing an invoice at his desk) instead of Steve's intricate fretwork?
Breakdown Not really. Genesis was getting big, Gabriel a cult hero, Hackett played this tour (in America) in tiny clubs. He was the obscure talent only hard-cores heard of. I saw this tour....thought it was in 79, guess it was 1980. Funny how young they all look.. At the time I was a high school kid and they looked older: Adults. Now they look 12! Beautiful music.
@@paddymcgibson3461 - Not really tiny clubs. I saw him at Park West Chicago and there were around 1000 people in there. He did 4 shows at the Roxy in Hollywood this tour also. While it only holds 500 people, it's famous for rock'n rollers. He also played the Uptown theater in Milwaukee which holds 1800.
@@paddymcgibson3461 79, hackett played the 5000 seat show at the okeefe center in Toronto, followed by the massey hall show. 94 he played in a bar. was so close to the band
True. The camera cut off from him right during my favorite part of his solo on Everyday. I've always thought Steve never got enough camera footage, especially in the Genesis concerts
The same year i saw Steve in Genova...performing a wonderful concert ( more or less the same songs he did here ) and it has been the first time i saw Steve playing a Fender Stratocaster !! Nice memories of my youth.
his playing is fabulous but just this tracklist isnt the most drummerist....., check out this other concert, he plays still better, the phrashing with the crashes on ace of wands are so nice, same like the hihat groove, and the phrasing with the steel concert toms xpectacular.... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N39SQWYfTbg.html sorry but you have face of idiot in this small photo.....
Fabulous set, I prefer these versions to the album originals, as you can hear everything so clearly and powerfully, the drums, vox, etc...while the albums by contrast had a poor murky sound. Saw this band and tour one month at the Colston Hall in Bristol, then Genesis previewing Duke stuff at Fairfield Halls Croydon the next month, and Gabriel previewing III the next month at Taunton Odeon, can you imagine, girls and boys??? Only the acoustic set a bit of a poor thin sound sadly despite the player's brilliance...still getting acoustic/electrics sorted in those days I guess?
