Collaboration between Icelandic prog-band Todmobile, Steve Hackett and the North Iceland Symphony Orchestra in Reykjavik and Akureyri 2015. www.sinfonianord.is/
Very interesting to hear this Prog Gold Standard presented with a full orchestration, but it re-enforces my amazement that, originally, 5 young lads in their 20's composed and performed this epic with far less equipment 50 years ago.
And " selling england by the pound" , " lambs lies on broadway" nursery cryme" " watcher of the sky" in live! Etc... but for the music, it was over! I remember, one concert in Paris 75-76 , unforgetable! Long life to you!!!
Bloody incredible isn't it. Just when you think he cant come up with yet another beautiful melody around the chord changes, he does it again; and again.
It just goes to show that the music of bands like Genesis will stand up in centuries to come when the music can be reproduced like this. Should be at the prom concerts.
This along with Awaken with John Anderson are quite simply breathtaking. The orchestration is/are perfect for both epic songs. Thank you Todmobile for these. It's made a 58 year old cry and I'm enjoying every minute of it
Steve's idea of revisiting his Genesis era has brought us back the opportunity of enjoying all these masterpieces again, and shows that the Ol' Great Prog lives and will live forever. An orchestral version of Supper's Ready is an icing on the cake, I don't mind this singer trying his own interpretation, he can sing well enough.
I Llove the enthousiasm of the singer. I thought that Peter Gabriel was irremplacable, but here is a total different way and I like it. And all these magnificent musicians, the mix of a rock band and a symphonic orcheastra, these cute violin ladies, all this and that... Music with a big hige "M"; Thank you Mr Hackett !!!!
I guess it's in the listeners ears but for me this is the worst version. Seconds Out or original on Foxtrot about million times better. And Hackett with Nad Sylvan.
All the pain, longing, joy and hope of humanity is in this song and this version. Congratulations to the composers (Genesis) and artists here for a great performance - it touches my soul 🙂
This singer is fantastic . Instead of trying to be PG , as so many did before him, he is totally himself in style ..and simply wonderful in the end. The kind of stuff you can still do with the true , original Genesis...they are still a never ending gold mine. Greatest band that has ever lived . Each year that passes by confirms it even more .
I dont know what to say. I'm seeing this version for the first time - I dont know why. The best prog-rock performance EVER, played by Steve and with this symphonic stuff and perfect vocals. Incredible.
I traveled to Reykjavik and had lunch Harborside listening to this.....the more I hear this version the more I like it. Thanks to Steve Hackett and all in Iceland for the gift!!!
Wow. I've seen Steve Hackett play Supper's Ready many times even with Genesis and Peter Gabriel but this was exceptionally powerful, graceful, enigmatic and wonderfully pleasurable to hear and see.
Brilliant version of the greatest prog song of all time. Kind of sad that some people can't just enjoy it for what it is without comparing it to Genesis: This isn't Foxtrot or Seconds Out; the singer's not Gabriel; the keyboard player ain't Banks. But it's superb all the same. Would love to see this concert released on Blu-ray.
I was there (in Reykjavik) at this concert held Friday night January 16th 2015 with two good friends of mine who are also die-hard fan of Mr. Hackett and Genesis. What great experience this concert was! After the concert, I shake hands with Mr. Hackett and thanked him for this concert as well of thanking the band-members of Todbmobile for their contribution. Ps. Steve Hackett has always been my favorite Genesis band member.
Best song ever made, without competition, stunning and heart-breaking, very good performance of this band, excellent singer, keep GENESIS ALIVE please, we will never see this quality of music again
Setting all disputes aside, if I were Banks and Rutherford I’d would like to be involved. This production completely pulls this piece out of the 1970’s and makes it current. Thank you Steve Hackett! Awesome.
This era of (mainly) British rock - 1970 through, what, 78? Most deeply immersive, enveloping, emotionally powerful and moving in the history of what gets called "rock and roll". I won't say it's better, because who the hell am I to judge other people's taste and experience - but this is hands down my favorite era, and not by a little.
This is so epic no further comments are needed, however: The way the band fades out and the last time through the cord progression is the string players only makes me cry every time, beautiful arrangement
I must have watched this a hundred times now. Great camerawork, great editing, and 22:40 Steve looks over with the "what a voice who is this guy!" look, then lays into it.
I don't know who the singer is, but as someone who first heard this over 50 years ago and has been in love with it ever since, this singer is brilliant - he imparts so much feeling into the lyrics which are laden already with meaning .. just brilliant
It makes my heart soars to hear this magnificent music still being played. So faithful to the original, this only makes me more in awe of Genesis as a band and writers!
This is my "go to" often after a beer or two. I love the orchestration and all of its components. There are many great versions of Suppers Ready and each will provoke a memory or provoke a thought in all of us. This is.the one which works best for me. Thanks to all of the original line up and in particular Steve and Peter for keeping the original real. Where would I be without it...... ? Hugely appreciated.
to minute 4:30 to 5:45 absolutely stunning!! In crescendo and powerful, rises the hair! Great vocalist, great sound Todmobile and Sinfonia Nord are fantastic! A superb performance of Steve as always!!!
Steve is a real Gentleman, he goes and helps these bands out all over the World with appearing and playing with them, no ego, no faltering, just the love for the music he co-created with one of the greatest bands ever. Genesis.
AND with an Orchestra, amazing there is no end to the early Genesis music, some of the most beautiful music ever created, we look at a guy who played with the best, from Genesis, to John Wetton, Steve How, Chester Thompson, the list goes on and on and on and on and on and on... and NEVER did he build an ego about himself, that is because he knows he is terrific. I saw him in US this year, in Australia 3 years ago and I will go seeing him until the. day I die.
I've loved this piece for over 30 years but this is astonishing - what a talented set of people! How lucky are we to live in the same time as Steve Hackett!
Just wonderful ! The best ! And the singer is so great, dramatic, warmth and with humour. It's a pure delight. Thank you so much Steve ! You and the rest of musicians have done the best tribute to this incredible piece.
Iconic piece of music, the apex of Genesis production: the struggle between Good and Evil, the Apocalypse, the Beast (666), the King of Kings and the New Jerusalem. A paroxysmal succession of unforgettable pieces that have indelibly marked my musical training as a teenager. Even today, at fifty-eight and forty-five years after its first listening, Supper's ready makes me feel incredibly powerful emotions to the point of bringing me to tears. I will never stop thanking those five brilliant English boys for creating one of the most important milestones in the history of progressive rock and music in general!
Bravo! Magnificent performance by Todmobile and SinfoniaNord. Some songs are Timeless..THIS song is one of those songs (it's on the jukebox at the "Valhalla Bar and Reindeer Grill") . Wonderful vocal interpretations by Eyþór Ingi Gunnlaugsson. Love Steve's eerie and haunting guitar whammy at 9:48 and also the Strings at 25:04 followed by Steve's "alien birds/seagulls" at the very end to finish the song. It's difficult to improve upon a Genesis song but Steve Hackett, and friends, continue to do so with each passing day. Elska Eilíf !
I been listening to this song for mor than 45 years. Never heard it orchestrated like this. 👍very phenomenal. Thank you Mr. Steve Haket for bringing this back to life. It brings back a lot of memories for me. (Roy).
In 2013 we did Awaken with Jon Anderson of YES. This time we worked with Steve Hackett in recreating Genesis songs for rock band and orchestra as well as writing new songs together. Here is Supper´s ready. Stay tuned, more to come:)
Loving music is this delightful indeed, never stop believe in guys, when I was a little girl discovering these Genesis tracks, they made me feel like we can build up a brand new world just the way we love it, just like kids see things on their own, still today we can get the same sensations, the music of the future stays there, in the future, helping us imagine a different world we need so much, wishing our most beloved music stars never get tired performing having fun entertain us fans because music makes life worth living ❤🎉❤
Fantastic performance. Can't see it often enough. Compared to "normal" shows of Steve Hacket with own band, everything tastes like new, fresh, extraordinary. Singer is very very good, orchesra combines +++.Same effect when Jon Anderson was "guestsinger" with Todmobile. Please ask Rick Wakeman to have a concert with you and orchestra. Searching for a new level :)
youre right that people think that Gabriel is god with all theatral costumes but for the voice in live Gabriel was average and Collins was better that him in live but peoples refuse to admit that
This shows the high pontential of the old genesis music. You can see the magic on some young musician's faces although the music is from the 70s. Thank you, Mr Hackett.
Masterful by The Maestro and Orchestra...... Steve has one of my favorite Guitar Solo’s ever in Firth Of Fifth( My Favorite Genesis song, with Supper’s Ready being my second favorite followed by The Musical Box Third and so on )along with Gilmour’s in Comfortably Numb, Ronson’s in Moonage Daydream, Blackmore’s in HighWay Star and also in Burn, Fripp’s in Red, Lattimer’s in Lady Fantasy, Howe’s in Close To The Edge and so on. Love Hackett’s incredible solo in The Lamia as well and The End of The Fountain of Salmacis.... Incredible is Steve Hackett.
Steve Hackett's brilliance keeps surprising me...the guy is probably one of, if not the best guitar player alive right now...everyone has their opinion but damn at the end of that song is pure amazingness...
Monumental composition in which there is everything ... Apocalypse in 9/8, like the instrumental section of Cinema Show, for me should be taught at the conservatory, like Bach and Mozart. Genesis Gabriel's era was an immortal band.
Absolutely brilliant. One big giant tribute to the 1972 line up, put on stage by the heart of Genesis, one of the most creative musicians ever, a one man Rock Hall of Fame, the incomparable Steve Hackett
Incredible performance of one of the greatest pieces of prog rock every written. The lead vocalist did a great job, but wish Pete had been there to sing. Love prog music, David Gilmour, Steve Howe and Steve Hackett my 3 favorite lead guitarists. 😀
Agreed, all 3 of those players are original and instantly recognizable which is big in my book. I've seen Steve play the song live several times (only once in person last year) and he actually improvises and plays something different every time at the end, which is sometimes a lost art with rock guitarists. Although something iconic like Comfortably Numb I guess you kind of have to play the original solo
@@wernerandreasli9165 I have not see much live Vai but Zappa for sure, he actually makes this point in interviews. Frank brings a whole new meaning to "original"
Yeah you're right! But there is also so much more than Genesis, Yes and Pink Floyd! I love prog but there are also some great albums outside of prog music. I am always searching for musical masterpieces!
