@@pakimanheaven6435 He was broke and living in his car and thinking it was finally time to give up trying to make it as a comedian. He got a call for a late night spot at the Apollo (performance above) and the start of a $200M journey.
yea but why black people gotta be funny, athletes or singers?? why the other race gets a $900,000 house while working a normal job but we gotta be superstars to afford it?? why a famous black person can't die with a good name?? these are questions
The added context to this performance is that Public Enemy was performing that night and because one of them missed the show they would only perform one song. The crowd was pissed. Steve came out and saved the show with this performance. The Apollo producers never forgot that, and was on the top of their list when looking for a new host. If you watch Season 15 Episode 4 of Showtime at The Apollo they actually talk about this story on a spotlight segment.
Goes to show how fickle fate can be. If all of Public Enemy had shown up, Steve does not get invited, kill his set, and become the host of Showtime at the Apollo host. He may have kept doing comedy gigs on the road and maintained a career, but it might not have led to where he is now. Then again, maybe if he missed this break, he would have done another gig instead where a TV producer saw him and it lead to a No. 1 TV show that lasted for 8 years and made him as rich as Seinfeld! LOL Ya never know....
The Apollo hired Steve Harvey to be the regular host after this. Steve was the host for 8 years. Longer than any other host. I used to watch the show all the time.
Here from the Club Shay Shay interview ❤ Seeing how confident he appears, you would never know he was going through what he was going through at the time. I see a bunch of comments saying it’s not funny and that’s understandable because I’ve seen a few comedy shows from the 80’s/early 90’s that’s not funny to me because some things you just have to know about to understand. I recently went to a comedy show and this one dude’s whole set was about cartoons and shows that used to come on in the 90s. Unless you knew those shows, none of it would’ve been funny. But for those of us that knew, we were in tears laughing so hard 😂
Same! I'm here to examine his hair. And I can tell he was definitely going bald in the middle here! I know after this, he started investing in those man units!💁🏾♀️
I don’t know why I got so emotional watching this. He really feels like an uncle to me. I listen to him every weekday morning. And to see where he came from to where he is now. Lawd have mercy!!
And to think that this was the beginning of it all. He was made for this. Steve keep get’n yo’ flowers cuz you’ve earned them all. Much love & The Lord’s Blessings💜
And Jamie Fox got Booed Off The Show This Same Night...jus goes to Show...Never Give Up...Jamie Fox is So Successful (Now) and im gon be successful too...now boo!!
Absolutely Jamie Fox and Steve Harvey are my biggest show business inspirations😀 almost like my entertainment muses I would be elated and honored to have my career mimic theirs
Catching up on 2024. I watch Club Shay Shay when Steve Harvey was first on.. He said he had a standing ovation, Nope!!! Especially with the Mike Tyson / Mitch green joke at the Apollo theater,The joke at the time was funny😂… But definitely there was no standing ovation… 🤦🏽♀️ 😫😳
