Steve gave a guitar clinic in Baton Rouge back in the 80's, he was incredible! And he fit right in with the local musicians, just one of the guys. He hung out and then went clubbing with me and a friend, Stacey, from the music store after the clinic. We had a great time, just checking out the local scene, cruising around and hanging out. No drugs or heavy drinking, wasn't pushing his celebrity status at anyone or showing off in any way, just a laid back, cool guy. I have Much respect for him as a guitarist and also as a person. He is the real deal.
Omg I want to learn how I want to learn how to play guitar. Badly so I can Soothe My Soul. just teach me how to play Shout out to Stephen Lynch and my good buddy Steve Torres hair metal and glam
I got a good explanation of his technique on that cheesy star lick lesson. the man was on his game back in 1984. 1st autograph album was Steve's talent entirely. Some of the solos even on the throw away songs blew me away. He should be credited with his tapping.
The guys is a very thorough instructor. I learned tapping from one of his book in the 80's and it's the same stuff as this video. Thanks for posting it.
fun fact: autograph toured with van halen in 1984 and was chosen to do the opening show before van halen performed and lynch wasn’t allowed to do his god like tapping cause that was “eddies thing” he also hated that tour
This video takes me back! Great stuff! Jeff Watson from Night Ranger was another guy doing challenging tapping at that time. Also, in the jazz world, there was the amazing Stanley Jordan. Later in the 80s, we had the likes of Vito Bratta and Reb Beach. What a great time in guitar playing. :)
@1gibsons Watson is one of my favorites..he still around doing country speed picking. 8 finger tap ROCK IN AMERICA is awesome never even tried to figure that lead out
@1gibsons he's hardly recognizable nowadays last saw him with nightranger closeup in front. Sing me away sentimental Blvd rock in AMERICA sounded real nice live.what a band. Dont remind me it has been 15yrs. Watson is that good>>>
Steve Lynch actually wanted you to learn what he was doing unlike Yngwie's lesson in which it was soooo obvious that he really didn't want kids to get his technique.
Imma be real with you yngwie doesn't even really know his technique he's going to fast all the time he has only ever payed attention to what his real techniques are like maybe 4 times
Look folks , I mean this guy Steve Lynch is clearly not an EVH knock off . Lynch's tapping style is more theory based , systematicly melodicly composed ascending / descending , and planned out using all of his fingers like a concert pianist . EVH was more of an unpredictable straight forward freestyler in his tapping stuff with only 5 fingers , and he didn't ascend descend too much looping notes in pentatonic scales like Lynch is clearly doing in this video . But its clear EVH had more of the song writing vision / talent of the two guitarists . Its a shame Lynch couldn't have got with say Ozzy or White snake , and really taken his song composing talents to a more talented band than Autograph .
Not a bad video, but he was wrong. That "first position" Em pentatonic scale is actually the second position of the Em pentatonic scale. That was very annoying. But hey, that's just me...
Umm...ok, thats your opinion, but Steve can/does use all 10 fingers if it's necessary, and that doesnt make someone better, just like speed, that doesnt make someone better either, as shitty as it sounds.
well, its only one video, there are plenty of him out there with his 8 finger solo lessons, but he can still play with his thumbs wwhen necessary, just not in the form of a piano like Stanley does
