Yes people, Steve Martin did the same joke on Carson. That was 25 years ago, so I think the statute of limitations for repeating a joke has passed.

Yes and check out the video from Carson at one minute where he looks at the camera and speaks about how he keeps records of his appearances and how he never repeats himself. 'God forbid.' It's his bit and not someone else's. Steve Marin is timeless.

To be fair, he did not repeat the same joke other than sluggish, and I thought it was much funnier this time around. Its a great bit and he's allowed to do it whenever ever he wants.

That was the whole point of the joke. He was hitting a punchline based on something he said he'd never do on Carson 30 years ago. The bit is funny, but the underlying meaning makes it even funnier. Sometimes he tells jokes that you don't even fully understand until days later. Dude is savage.

+thevoxdeus I think it was supposed to poke fun at his Carson appearance in 1989, when he did the diary skit, but just before, he told Carson isn't it good to make note of comedy bits you did, so you would not repeat them years later. So an in-joke here.

Who cares if he didn't want/manage or whatever the reason come up with new material. First of all, he recycled like a pro. 25 years is a long time. Second, it's Steve Martin. You don't need to prove yourself with new material if you're a legend. If he wanted, he could go and do the same freaking material the next day on Fallon or whatever... would still be funny. Legends are legends for a reason. And also... I'm very high right now. And European.
