Great video! I saw Buddy Rich in the early eighties. After the show, I walked up to Buddies kit and looked at it closely. His Zildjian cymbals on the heavy side, but sounded great. He played all A's. 14" New Beat Hi Hats 18" Medium Thin Crash 8" Splash 21" Rock Ride 18" Medium Thin Crash 22" Swish Knocker.

It’s interesting to hear the negative comments about 10 inch toms. For my particular drum kit, I love my 10 inch tom and it is one of the most used and versatile toms I have on my kit. My 12 inch tom however, that’s the one that I never use and I can never get it to sound quite the way that I like. It’s been sitting in storage for years. My larger default set up is 8, 10, 13 & 16.

+stevemaxwelldrums *One shell design that is particularly rare* is the Japanese jointless, in which the shell is actually a section of elm trunk hollowed to interior diameter - it's essentially a tube-lug-equipped taiko from the woodwright's perspective, which might have taken the record for resonance. But it was so expensive to fabricate that the market never bit. The Craviotto® coopered drums use a fraction of the wood of the experimental Miyamoto drums. Also, given the potential for having to equip for funk-pop gigs, I see use for a "southpaw" double kick pedal on a double-bass kit; such a treatment would have the left bass damped for articulation, the right bass wide open for the medium-long sustain needed on some '80's and '90's dance tunes.

Steve, If you were tuning a snare drum lower for backbeat blues music, would you still have the Reso tensioned lower than the batter ? Thanks for the videos, great info in there. Michael
