As a german boy , aged 14, 1976 i had contact to stevies music for the first time. The guitar solo at " take the money and run " impressed me, so i knew , thats it. This is my music , the Sound, Rock blues and a little bit of boogie. Because of an illness i couldnt join my first live concert with Steve miller band in 2012 to Berlin. What a shit.
Still in fine voice after all these years. “Jet Airliner” remains one of my all-time Steve Miller Band songs. And there wasn’t an empty seat in the house.
I had this dumb ass friend years ago who thought this song was called Big Old Jed. When I asked him what Steve Miller Band song was called Big Old Jed, he said “you know that really popular song he had that went Big Old Jed had a light on” that’s when I said “oh you mean big old Jet Airliner” and his face got bright red from embarrassment.
I graduated college May of 1978 and started my first corporation job one week later. Saved most my money and in July gave my 1974 stereo equipment to my sister and bought new higher powered stereo. Akai 1150 receiver, bose 901 speakers (still have) and good turntable. This was the very first song I played to test my system. Great memories Mr. Miller.
I miss the 70"s...my junior year summer took a trip solo in my new car from Texas to California. Steve Miller was blasting on my stereo! Miss that summer!
He turns 80 this year and he is still as great as he was some 50 years ago when he first broke through, and it's amazing how he can still hit those high notes at practically 80! Most singers can't do that after about 50-55 but he can!
