Steve-O unwinding with Voodoo and His thoughts 

Steve flew one of the best races I've seen, smooth as silk (and fast) just beautiful to watch, Strega on the other hand was all over the course sudden jerky turns and all really horsing it around the course. Unlimited air racing on any given day is up in the air (pun intended) who will be victorious, this just wasn't Steve's day. Sad to see Voodoo retire...another great unlimited steed gone to pasture. Air racing will never be the same with most of the great modified unlimited planes gone.

This reminds me of a cowboy with his horse, he understands that they were together. One is nothing without the other. Also I’ve met him and he is a stellar guy. Even though he was in on the Strega crew at the time he was someone you knew would do great things. A man and his mustang.

Steve Hinton Jr was taught by the best. His father is a remarkable man and amazing pilot. I recall junior and his twin sister in a double-stroller at Fighter Rebuilders, being wheeled around by his mother Karen. Slowly, as we worked on aircraft, big Steve began pulling junior into everything that was going on around the museum and the rebuild shop. It was amazing to watch....junior was very fearless and responsible at such a young age. I'm proud he has done so well. M

Also a touching moment as his dad taxied by in the T-33. If his engine had held out he would have won. Dealt with traffic down low. A consolation is he now owns the world speed record of 530+ mph set this year in Idaho. My avatar is Steve's dads P-51 Wee Willy 2 which I had the pleasure of flying in 1998 at Chino. Attended many years at the RAR. Wonder if Steve will pilot another craft in 2018 now that Voodoo is retiring to exhibit. Strega is up for sale. I don't think we will ever see a duel similar to this one again. Would like to see if Rare Bear and Dago Red will ever come back.

Thanks for sharing this. I was sitting in the back of that green bus looking on as this unfolded. I could sense what was going on, and just knowing that Steve-O gave it everything Voodoo had made this a little bit heartbreaking. I got the chance to catch up with him back in the pit, and I can tell you he was a true pro's pro. The classiest way to handle a situation like that that I've ever seen in air racing and possibly in pro sports as a whole. Nothing but respect for Steve Hinton, Jr.

ive only been to the races a few times and wish I could go more and most memories are of Voodoo, Strega and Rare Bear. I missed this his last race in her with a ton of regret so thank you for posting this. You can see the thought and emotion he felt at that time. good luck to Mr. Hinton Jr. and to you as well Voodoo hope to see you around again someday

Wow, thank you for sharing this! Stevo is such a class act and this is just simply moving. I can imagine him telling Voodoo he is sorry they didn't get one last win, but thanking it for all it has given him! Another great video from you guys! Keep up the good work!

Departures of any kind (of "equipment", friends, family, colleagues, adversaries, events or organizations) are among the most poignant of human experiences. Often the more tempestuous the relationship, the more moving. From some personal experiences I wondered after the finals; listening to Steve and Danny concerning his whereabouts; whether Steve-O might be taking the time to appreciate these final moments together. To me this video confirms the competitor appreciating his noble steed. Thanks!! I see a friendship that has delivered championships, called mayday, broken speed records, and given everything to win once more together. I also see wild horse that could kill in a moment, or blow an engine and still land safely. Tempestuous indeed. As my favorite racer, and consistent competitor, I will miss VooDoo (though I liked the purple paint better). Let us celebrate the memories this noble racer has provided over the years.

Its hard to understand the feeling that an aviator gets, as he marvels at a machine, thats been pushed beyond its limits.....and still, allowed him to live.

You captured a great moment that shows how hard that plane was pushed for 8 laps and how there was nothing left in that motor. This clears up any doubt that Stevo didnt want to be at the podium. Not that true Voodoo/Race fans have any doubt in Stevo's character :) Thanks for sharing and I cant wait to see more of your coverage of the Air Races in the coming weeks!
