7 Up BMBF Downhill Final, won by Andrew Titley from Shrewsbury (home course).
This is a fantastic era for the growth of UK Mountain Biking.
In Steve Peats first year as a Sports XC Rider (winning all events) he started downhilling with Chris Horsefield. Both had rigid bikes, 1.5" specialized hard pack rear tyres & ritchey megabite front 2.1" tyres.
Both fantastic riders. Steve is now the best ever DH rider in his time winning World Cup events.
Richard Thackery (Pace Racing)
Robin Seymour (Pro-Flex Animal Girvin)
John Pennyfeather (Pro-Flex Animal Girvin)
Steve Peat (Langsett Cycles)
Chris Horsefield (Langsett Cycles)
Steve Hassel (Rose bank Stack hat)

Ha. I was actually at this event. I was at a funeral in the morning and almost at my own in the afternoon. I snuck down the course (unofficially) on a Kona Lavadome, and smashed my front wheel on the jump into the field at the end of the course. I ended up in the first aid tent (just visible in the video) having been knocked out. To this day I can't recall riding the course or the jump. In addition I used to hang out in Dave Mellors shop, and he fitted my 92 Rox Shox for me. At one point he had Chris Boardman's 1992 Gold Medal wining Lotus time trial bike in his shop and I got to sit on it, but he would not let me try it at Eastbridge. Some of us from Shrewsbury were downhill riding in the 70's, long before the sport had a name. We put MX bars and knobbly tyres onto 3-speed bikes. I was one & am very proud of this. Its amazing how this great sport has progressed since the 70's and indeed 1993. And its not, as the Yanks say "An American invention" It was Made in Shropshire. People today cant believe we rode down tracks like Eastridge (and indeed the massive hill at the Hawkstone Park MX track, on bikes without suspension, but this video proves it. It's even more amazing that Steve Peat is still racing!! More power to him. He seems a top bloke.

Once the courses became wet and with roots and not just clean dry transitions, thats when the USA started failing and the Europeans and the Canadians started hitting hard as the wet is part of the deal.

Wow - nostalgia! I'm glad the lycra look has disappeared from downhill!. Wonder where all those old bikes are now? A modern downhill rig is a far cry from those things. Also, look how high Peaty's seat post was!

Steve Peat was actually winning Sports Cat XC races in those days, 1993 he cleaned the lot Nationally and did so well in the DH's! Courses were pretty gnarly, Eastridge was one one of them & Beddghelert in Wales I remember! of course its changed now & different but so have the bikes, so jarring would be the same & would have been as tough as hardly much travel in those days on the suspension! Please subscribe & share if you like thanks

If you MTB in the pedals you cant use your foot in the turn (right?) so should you put your feet in the pedals in the beginning or later when you`ve learned to keep control in the turns?
