Steve Potter: Dahlberg Diver (a deer hair popper)
Steve Potter's tie of the Dahlberg Diver has served him well for largemouth and striped bass in the delta of the Sacramento and San Joaguin River in California.
Steve’s been tying bass flies and trout bugs ever since receiving his first fly tying kit in 1989. He's shown his fly tying skills in Oregon, Idaho, Montana and California at FFF events and elsewhere. Steve has also done tutorials at the International Sportsman’s Expositions in Pleasanton, San Mateo, and Sacramento, California. In 2009 Steve won the Northern California Federation of Fly Fisher Fly Tier of the Year Award.

I hope you realize that you are not just making videos but passing down a age old tradition that will not be found in any school books. This is a reminder of the kind of tools and lure / fly building my dad and grandpa passed along to me and my brother. Great thanks

You Sir are a master with deer hair! I will attempt this after watching you manipulate that deer belly hair. I don't use it much because it is so messy but after seeing this, I am going to have to try one of these. Thanks for sharing. All the best, Sean

ALSOME!!!..That is a Beautiful Fly !!! You are really good. I have got to learn how to tie those. I just got started tying solid colors with a red face. I live in South Alabama close to the Mobile Delta. We also have great Bass Fishing. We are Blessed to live close to a Delta. People that have not fishing in a Delta don't know what they're missing. Thanks for sharing these beautiful fly patterns with us. Your purple fly looks great too. You will be my mentor for tying these beautiful flies. Thanks Again and Be Safe !!! Mike Walters Alabama

Excellent video! I like how Steve flips those half hitches over, it's like the thread twisted on itself. I guess that's what's known as stacking? or spinning, or both? A long time ago they featured some Larry Dalhburg's flys in Fly Fisherman magazine (the B&W photo days) and fell in love with the Diver and the Floating Minnow. my diver was mono chromatic and I tyed both rabbit strip and feather tailed versions. the deer and rabbit both came from game that I harvested. I'm so glad I subscribed, you have quality videos featuring excellent tyers from all genres. Thanks.

An "easy" fly doesn't take a 22 minute video to demonstrate. A Dahlberg Diver is an intermediate to advanced pattern. Calling it easy only serves to discourage new tiers. A new guy that can't get this one down might just throw in the towel on fly tying because he was mislead that this is "easy".
