I really admire Steve Schmidt. Democracy is everything to him, but so is integrity. He is one of the most eloquent and articulate speakers expressing the corruption, the dangers of Trump, and the current Republican party. Bravo Steve. You're all in for the fight to save our democracy.

Steve Schmidt is not center left and he’d probably be the first to say so. He even says at the beginning of the clip that he’ll probably disagree with most Democrats on the majority of policy issues. He is, however, a diehard believer in our democracy and I respect him for that. His ideals are in the right place.

Mr. Schmidt, I came across this link and my jaw dropped. I have always put America's democracy foremost. I have always been a democrat, however, I never had any doubt, none, that Republicans believed as I that our government was by the people and for the people, that America's democracy, the liberty, the freedoms and the rights she has bestowed on us were ours, that our Constitution is what binds us as a people. I thought this until the Republican events of the Obama admin placed the seeds of doubt, that doubt turned into reality these past 4yrs and was cemented with what has unfolded during the weeks since President Trump lost. I served this country and what she stands for with honor many, many years ago, and you sir, have given me hope that those years, that those who came before me who sacrificed more than I were not in vain. My favorite political quote comes from Will Rodgers: I belong to no organized party. I am a Democrat. 🤣 I will remain an independent for the time being, but I think Steve is right to make this decision. Even before Trump, the GOP was in a moral decline as it sought to head off demographic decline. There is nothing truly conservative left in the GOP. You might hear conservative language among Republicans, but it’s all religious incantations, devoid of meaning. For a conservative, there is nothing in the GOP that is worth fighting for. The principles of conservatism that once guided it have been hollowed out or tainted like rotten meat.

I completely agree with Steve. So let's all do what we can to get Jon Ossoff and Rev. Warnock across the line in this run off election down in Georgia. Volunteer for the phone bank or donate or do whatever you can to help. After that we need to begin focusing on the midterm elections in 2022 and, of course, after that we need to fully gear up for the 2024 presidential election. Do not allow yourself to become complacent.

It might not seem like a lot, nor can it all be attributed to the Lincoln Project, but of all the registered Republicans that voted for Trump in 2016, only 89% voted for him that second time. In those very tight races where a tremendous democratic effort was needed to pull even, a few percentage points coming from never Trumpers might have been the difference.

I abandoned my former Republican Party a couple years ago. I’m not so much a liberal, but I have spent my life supporting and defending the U.S. Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I’ve been to countries which have collapsed to dictatorship. Not in my country.

Excuse me, as I'm a Brit, but we have the same issue with the current ruling party, the original Republicans you might say - the Conservatives / Tories, with their watered down, Russia bitch PM. In fact what I wanted to say is how important it is to honour the democratic process; just look to other countries, where people who cry out for democratic representation are imprisoned, even killed, for speaking out This is a stark reality in our world. Those who are speaking out right now in America, are the brave activists who will save the country. Please become an activist yourself now, even if you've never done anything before. It is involvement, activism and engagement that will uphold strong pillars, and those who wish to damage will never be able to stand. Americans should be rightly proud of how they came together to speak out for BLM; this we feel is the true essence of the American spirit. I too, am looking forward eagerly to the Biden-Harris Administration, and all the positive things to come for all Americans.

He was definitely captain of the debate team in high school, and ALL other regional districts trembled in fear at the thought of his rebuttals. Now, every time a basketball player gets dunked on or crossed over, when a boxer KO's another fighter, or when a batter takes a pitcher's fastball out of the park, in that area it ends with an exclamatory, "You got Schmidtted!"

Steve Schmidt is such an intelligent and articulate man. Welcome to the democratic party, not perfect, but they at least try to stand up for the rights of all people. I initially was a registered republican when I could vote in my first election, but as a nurse meeting and caring for a wide range of people, different races, religions, educational levels, etc. I came to believe that the democratic party was more open minded and inclusive. I do not understand how the republican party could give themselves over to a want to be authoritarian who has been deepening the divide b/t Americans and tarnishing the reputation of America all over the world. Hey, GOP how about putting your oath to the constitution and the welfare of the American people over party. Even if it means you lose an election, at least it will demonstrate you do believe in democracy and are standing up for it.

Well, there’s not much I can add here regarding my respect for Mr Schmidt, except, as a lifelong very liberal, yellow dog democrat I would rather listen to Mr Schmidt lay out his extremely articulate and coherent ideas than listen to my still cherished idols like Dr. Reich, Dr. Chomsky, Chris Hedges, etc. I would love it if Mr. Schmidt and Mr. Anand Ghiriharadas had a podcast together..the Gods of wisdom will have acted to satisfy my much needed desire.
