Not Staios's fault we overpaid for Chych and he didn't fit.. got what he could for a guy every team in the league knew we had to move, and got a RHD that fits in the top 4 in return. which is what we've needed for years. I'm happy with the trade.. we also added some forward depth and veteran presence which is something this team really lacked... no big flashy names or moves, but that's not what we need right now.. getting Ullmark was probably the only big move they really needed.
@@stentorofsparta3576 Or we'll sign Ulmark for a longer term. Ottawa has new ownership, management, and coaching. Debrincat was a terrible pick up. But Tarasanko wasn't, and we turned that around for a 3rd and 4th pick. For a cap dump essentially. Staios seems to want to make the playoffs next year. And this team looks fairly seasoned to do it.
@@dawsonholdsworth5371 funny how Ottawa’s “cap dumps” seem to flourish elsewhere. Cause out of paying most of tarasenkos salary last season, Ottawa ends up with a mid round pick. Whereas Florida ends up with a banner with tarasenko getting another ring in the process. And the sens have had playoff aspirations for years, why is this year different? Just cause?
@@dawsonholdsworth5371 Ottawa’s “cap dumps” seem to always do better elsewhere. Tarasenko, a “cap dump”, was good enough for the champs. He walks away with a ring in Florida after Ottawa payed most of his salary this season lol. I’ll give the sens credit though, every summer they get their fans believing. And then November hits & the sens do sens like things.
I think they did well without getting crazy. At this point they are forced to bank on internal growth seeing as everyone is under contract staios pretty much has his hands tied for the moment
He’s making sensible, rational moves with the roster. He looks and sounds really settled in now. Great to have Poulin as his wing man too. Poully spent a lot of time analyzing games right up til he was hired by the Sens.
Not happy with the low returns on his trades. Ullmark is good if he resigns and making moves like this doesn't help. Next he will fumble Pinto and get a 2027 2nd round pick for him.
Chychrun “a very good player for us”…. A -30 in his first full 82 game season. 25 even strength points meaning he was on the ice for 55 even strength goals against. Brutal analytics. Jensen is a beast defensively…. He can also score 5 on 5 at a better rate than Chychrun. 29 even strength points in 2022-2023, +32 in 2021-2022. Right handed shot…. Not a powerplay guy. Perfect fit for Ottawa.
Finally,Ottawa has a good GM.There are some other options in Adam Henrique,Maxime Comtois, and possibly Morgon Barron. Its the middle six that would help.I know Steve was left with a mess,I am all behind him.
I think it's more difficult then that, first they have to clear up the space to sign him to a decent contract, Joseph is rumored to be on the move so that would free up enough space for Pinto
Staios is doing the best he can to clean up the Dorian trying to save his job moves. Ottawa needs to prove they can compete before any bigger names will even consider signing with them. This is not the year to toss money or picks around like they are some kind of Stanley Cup contender.
Don't hear too much about Jenson, maybe that's a good thing, but also prob because he plays for the Caps who aren't a popular discussion topic around the league these days
Underwhelming to say the least. Pesce signed for 5.5. Did they make a run for him or did he just not want to come to Ottawa. I really don't get the Amadio signing. They got some veteran leadership for sure and I guess time will tell. If they go on to not sign Pinto this offseason will have been a disaster.
Can that bum reporter stop asking about the French? If you heard Staios at the draft, you would know his French is not close. I want him focused on other things
@@dawsonholdsworth5371 how is trading chychrun for a 3rd round pick & a 3rd pairing defenceman anything short of a disaster considering what the sens traded to acquire chychrun only a bit over a year ago?
@@stentorofsparta3576 It's the value that he would bring. I dont think Chychrun is that good. I personally like him as one of the boys on the team. But given that Ottawa couldn't get him to be the player we needed him to be. The off the lot value lost was real. Wish we got more, but I do think a seasoned veteran to round out our defense is worth something in its own right.
@@dawsonholdsworth5371 there were like 20 Nick Jensen types available earlier this afternoon in free agency. The whole Chychrun saga in Ottawa was a disaster.
Meh i call bs on the chych move. He had way more value at the deadline, and if all you get in return is a small soft D in Jensen and a 3rd why even bother. The cap savings are little. Legit makes our D even softer...if I was a forward on an opposing team and saw the D pair of Chabbie and Jensen on the board Id be smiling ear to ear... What an easy night in front of the net. We will finish last in the East this year
I don't really blame staois for making horrible trades to undo dorions mistakes, and trying to get Ufas to sign up to play in. A swamp outside of a boring gov't city. Just sucks that this team is absolutely cooked for probably another 5+ years.
Not happy whatsoever. His list was to sign Pinto, Trade Chabot (Chych gets traded at Deadline depending on play), pick up a #1 RHD (Tanev etc), a #2 RHD (Gostisbehere etc), a decent 2L & 2RW (Foegele/Konecny etc), and a 2C (i.e. Stephenson). Pinto to 3C. Hoping that this summer can help alleviate some of these concerns or we're gonna have a rinse and repeat of last year.
One ass backwards move after another. Ottawa has no concept of draft capital no matter which screwball is the GM. All the other GM’s have Staios’ phone number on speed dial. Cheers from Ottawa.
Like the Tarasenko deal you got nothing for Chykrun. Once again Pinto should have been the priority but with the signings today. It appears won’t be money for Pinto. He is not making this team good enough. Ullmark won’t sign for long term and Brady will want out.
Tarasanko was gonna leave at the end of the year and there would be little value like there is for Florida in trade value. Let's not forget that Alfredsson was picked at 133rd overall. And was the "Captian of a Stanley Cup run team.
They got a rd for a player who never fit in the lineup and they couldn’t possibly extend. It’s a fine trade- the shame is previous management made stupid decisions with chychrun and debrincat. Budda you have to be dorions burner- ya the chychrun return is slightly underwhelming but it addresses an obvious hole in the roster and moves along a player who would be impossible to sign. The rest of staios moves here have been really solid, signed veteran forwards to low term and reasonable cost. Bring in a legit number 1 goalie…
Andlauer buddy over there just traded a 24 year old stud defenceman for a 33 year old plug and Ottawa fans are amazed how good he is? How about the contracts he gave out today, no one noticed they have no more cap space to sign Pinto? 😂 Sens sure have the dumbest fans in the league.
@@curefieddid you watch any sens games from 2020-2022 ? Chabot-zub was one of the best pairings in the nhl at times . It just pisses me off they literally never even tried the sandy / chychrun pairing because sandy couldve compensated for chychs defensive fuck ups
Not a good day. Chychrun deal - not enough in return. Perron - overpaid for a 36 year old who's past his best. Amadio - overpaid. Gregor - 4th liner / AHL signing. Pinto not close to being signed. Playoff team? Doubtful at the moment.
Relax. They traded for a vezina goalie who is motivated to prove he's a #1. They added bottom 6 fwd depth and experience, guys who are hard to play against. They traded away a soft offensive LD and replaced him with a bottom 4 RD who can play PK and be physical. Pinto is an rfa with no leverage who is qualified and will be playing since day 1 next year. They addressed weaknesses with solid options. Are there better players? Sure, but it takes 2 to tango.
He went after guys who had no other choices …weak GM. Ottawa’s standard MO….another year of no playoffs. Next years exit interviews: Brady asks for a trade: Book it
Weird. These are exactly the kind of moves I was hoping for. Significant upgrade in goal. Better bottom 6 forwards. A good defensive RD. Lot of fans are stressing about Pinto, but this isn't Dorion. He left less than $2M to sign Pinto last summer. Staios has over $4M. That means Pinto won't be signing 5 x $5M, but if they were never going to offer him that much then that's not a loss. Personally, I'm waiting for Pinto to produce 45+ points over a full season before offering him over $4M. He has played one full season. One. Signing him to a shorter and cheaper deal makes sense from a risk point of view. It also makes sense from a team cap point of view. They've got a bunch of guys locked up and will have cap increases over the next two seasons that can go towards raises for some depth guys. So if Pinto makes $3M for a few years before going up to $6M then that's fine. Finding him the ~$6M would be both a good problem to have, and not an insurmountable challenge based on all the other guys that are locked in while the cap is going up.
The sens love buying high & selling low. First Debrincat & now Chychrun lmfao. Next up, trade Perron at 50% retained for a 4th rounder at the deadline. Never change sens.
@@philc824 If they make it. Their depth just got worse. And the hired a second string Stanley cup winning goalie who only played one playoff game last season.
@@DarthChewie immediately replaced by Guentzel. Or should we have been in on the Michael Amadio sweepstakes? What’s funny is the hurricanes got nearly as much for Guentzel’s signing rights as the sens got for Chychrun lol.
