Hear from Steve Staios, owner Michael Andlauer and GM Pierre Dorion as Staios is introduced as the President of Hockey Operations for the Ottawa Senators.
Credit to Pierre he stayed loyal to Ottawa throughout the Melnyck years when the Sens were literally IMPLODING with Karlsson contract, Hoffman drama. He built an amazing team and made the best with what he was given. He deserves a ton of credit. Similar to what Geoff Molson did for NYR who is now with MTL.
I feel for Pierre. Let’s be honest. He built this team from the ground up. The combination of players and contracts is what makes this team so valuable. Now he’s got a new owner and new president who are saying all the right things, but they are also best buddies and that makes Pierre an outsider for now. I can think of a bunch of things Steve could work on that wouldn’t affect Pierre at all. - sales and marketing - improving concessions at the rink - sorting out the new arena mess, especially with regards to effective and painless transportation and parking - making team alumni welcome, visible, and participative in the current team
Other than maybe the alumni stuff, none of these things fall under Staios’s job description. His only concern is going to be the product that goes on the ice. Cyril Leeder will be the one handling the off-ice, fan-facing stuff. Dorion has had his job for 7 years, which is longer than most GMs get, particularly those that go through long playoff droughts. Andlauer has a vision for how he wants this team to run, and Staios is going to be the architect of that vision. Maybe it includes Dorion, maybe it doesn’t, but I trust MA & SS to make the right calls
@@JohnnW1212 I thought they introduced Steve as the president. That would make him in charge of everything, and everyone would be reporting to him, directly or indirectly. What’s Cyril’s job title? I missed that.
@@martinedwards2004 Leeder is the President & CEO. Staios is the President of Hockey Operations. Leeder will oversee all the business decisions, while Staios will oversee the hockey decisions
@@JohnnW1212 Ah, I see. I’ve not heard of a president of hockey operations before. It sounds like a made up position so that Andlaur can insert his guy without firing Pierre.
@@martinedwards2004 Most NHL teams already have a President of Hockey Ops. The Sens only have about 40 people below that role (including the GM and previously 2 assistant GMS), whereas the Leafs have over 80 people (including 5 assistant GMs).
The pain of the last 6 years finally seems to lifted. A new era of sens hockey is here. I was too young to fully remember the 07 run. I was to immature to deal with the 2017 heartbreak (straight up didnt watch hockey for 4 years) . But NOW FINALLY nothing but positive vibes around this team so please, to my beloved ottawa senators... I NEED SOME PLAYOFF HOCKEY SO BADLY. The only question mark left is DJ. Only time will tell, so to my fellow fans lets support this team with all our hearts cause we never know when another couple of wives will ruin a hockey franchise...LOL
Damn that's intense I been through it all ever since I was 8 in 1992 I punched the screen out on my laptop in 07 lol looked good until I realized norris will be out yet again and pinto oh lord
Been too long without a president, good move, puts some extra pressure on DJ and Pierre to perfom at the same time as giving them more support and resources to ensure a better chance of success
Finally starting the get the same resources for the management group as every other NHL team! This team has been operating on a shoe-string budget for too long
I'm very excited about Staois being on board, you need a President of hockey operations, and I'm sure that with Pierre they will work well together and making sure the Sens are a playoff teams for a long time. But let's make no mistake this version on the Sens was build by Pierre Dorion and he did an amazing job building a fast, talented squad. Merci Pierre!!
Poor Pierre, looks very uncomfortable. I really hope it works out for him and the team does amazing. This rebuild would not have been fun without Dorion and the memes he brings... Not to mention that you can tell he really cares about the team and always has. Has he made some mistakes? Sure, just like all GMS but being a GM in Ottawa isn't the same as being a GM in other places , small market team, it's cold and taxes are high. It's hard getting players to come here and I think Dorion has done a fine job overall. This Pinto situation is rough though.
The rebuild was fun for you? The last 6 years almost completely drained the joy I had for the team. The on-ice product was embarrassing enough, and Dorion’s frequent blunders when speaking to the media just made it worse. Andlauer has sparked my excitement for this team again, and if he’s smart he’ll make sure Staios is the public face & voice of the hockey department moving forward
@@JohnnW1212 Dorian is also responsible for all the great moves too. Blunders yes, but Brady, josh, Timmy and Jake are all locked up for near a decade at 8m. My hats off to him for that.
This is an A+ press conference. I think Dorion has felt like he’s been on an island and he’s always seemed to be a strong number 2 voice. No disrespect at all but I feel like he probably feels like a weight has lifted off his shoulders. That being said, it’s still playoffs or bust but I’m glad they gave him a shot after putting this team together
Steve came up a little short seeking out the Memorial Cup in Hamilton but that may be the perfect learning curve to break the culture of inconsistency in the nation's capital and place them back in the playoffs. Good luck Sens it starts with a camp of trusting one another as brothers. 🎯
Great move for the team. I honestly thought he was going to be named the Assistant GM of the team. I was hoping the team would bring in Randy Sexton as the President of Hockey but I guess I can't have the whole original ownership group back on the team. Great move by the team. He will be Ottawa's Kelly McCrimmon.
