Superbly cut Flattop. I'm a fan of this cut, but it's incredibly difficult to find a barber with your skills here in the UK. Over the years I've skilled myself up to do it myself, but it's never quite the same as sitting in the chair and watching a master barber like yourself do it.
This client had obviously favoured the Crewcut hairstyle over the years, so this particularly nice even-coloured grey bristly hair must have been a joy to work with.It is not worth while having a Crewcut unless 0.05 blade is deployed. The End Result is that this gentleman certainly looks ten years younger, with the shape of his head accentuated. I think that he was very pleased with the result....The barbering certainly was meticulous in the detail that was filmed. This was the work of a Perfectionist !
I learned from my cosmetology training to alter the way hair lays by applying tension to the hair with a dense / stiff brush and holding the hair in the desired position until it is dried. Not necessary for this man as he has perfect hair for a flat top. Many do not have hair that naturally stands up and it is very challenging to make it work. I recommend that customers choose a different style that suits their hair or be willing to blow dry, gel and work at shaping their flat top every morning. In my experience as a master Barber for 28 yrs, most men do not want to invest the time in styling their hair.
I'm right with you there Fred, thanks for the comment, This cut was done a long time ago and i've moved a few times since then but i bet he still has it lol. I'm developing new software for our trade I'd love to know what you think, it's: www.barbersmart.net There's a few videos on it's RU-vid page if you'd like to have a look. Thanks again, glad you like the Flat Top...
Really nice work bro!! I've been a barber for 20+ years and you give one of the best flattop sovereign seen!! Nice attention to detail!! Very impressed!!!👍👍💈💈
I didn't mean to offend anybody but I've been doing these cuts for 20 years. Many barbers waste a lot of time cutting the same areas of the cut 3 or 4 times. The key to time saving on a flat top is to take the sides to your desired finish length with the first pass. Straight up the sides of the head then make your first pass down the middle freehand. Work your way out to the corners then lightly round them in along with the crown. I will try to find time and a willing customer to let me video one for you. Happy cutting!
+Adam Winklemam Thats cool man we need more videos of proper Barbers doing good work. This cut is done in half the time it took on here, it was just getting the camera to be looking in the right place all the time, and going slow enough so anyone learning would be able to follow. Remember when we teach there's no point go so fast people can't take it all in. No offence taken, glad you like the cut. Just one other thing this one is graded at 0.05mm just under the Andis outliner (0.1mm) so does that a little longer as I cant use the trimmers to cut that much hair off in one go.
Steve, I really enjoyed watching your video on doing a perfect flat top haircut. Wish I had a little hair on top of my noggin so I could come in to your shop and get the royal treatment from you. Since I am bald, I have opted to shave my head so I have the ultimate very short flat top. You did a great job and it looks awesome. THanks for sharing this video with us.
The fella in the chair has rolled back the 80s! :-D On the cut and technique itself, this is a fine example of the benefits in clipper over comb - some more videos please Steve!
been hairdresser for 30 yrs. just a couple shortcuts i want to share with you . do not ever use products that will clog your blades cause you know they are expensive , i personally charge xtra if clients have gel, mousse , etc. i have used krewcomb all these years doesn,t have products to mess with my blades . good luck to you !
Thanks I don't like people with product in there hair as well but in this case I need to get the flat top as sharp as I can, and you can see I use a different set of clippers for this cut and the blades are cheaper. Thanks for watching.
I have a flat-top and when it gets long enough for a fresh haircut, I always shampoo and blow dry it before going to the barber. I think maybe he can do a better job shaping it...after I have done this part !! Thoughts ??
Because this cut is shorter than any grade or guard, although I do use the Andis & Oster clippers and they have a blade for each length, I find they give a better cut and I don't have to keep going over what I've already done like I use to with plastic guards. Thanks for watching. Steve
I'll be in Christchurch but for a flat like that, I can make the hop to Hobart....Do you take appointments from the States or New Zealand or might one just walk in...? Best flat I've ever seen.
Sorry I've just seen this comment, thanks for the complements, I now manage Launceston Barbers in Launceston www.launcestonbarbers.com.au. We only do walk ins No appointments, Glad you like the video, cheers guys.
Hi Steve, I still think you are number one on the flatttop market. As I have mention before I would love to sit in you chair but have two important questions? Have you ever done a horseshoe flattop and question number two is exactly where is your shop located??????
Your first pass on top should be the very front center to establish your guide and work from there toward the back and edges where the sides tie in. Another thing is NEVER touch the top with your hand after you blow it up so you dont knock the hair down that you just blew up!
If you get the Andis DT3 trimmer you can adjust the blades, it's the only one as far as I know, but it takes a few tries and my face was sore too but we got just under the outliner blade that Andis make
HI Steve, Great flattop! A true pleasure to watch from beginning to finish. Thank you for sharing your skills with us. I would love to sit in your chair and let you shear me down. I love horseshoe flattops and have some great photos of this extreme radical military haircut and wouldl like to be in your chair and a demonstration model of a really great horseshoe flattop. Let me know if I can be in one of your videos? Many thanks, Robert P.S. Where is your shop located?
I use a side fading technique with a detachable #1 blade as it feeds into the hair faster. After that I shave off the sides and back. It looks very unorthodox but it works better. Check out Ivan Zoot for a video on side fading. I have been doing this for 20+ years. It is not the way most are taught , yet it is the fastest way . By using shortcuts one can get a flat top done in under 15 min.
david fl hi David thanks for the message, this was done when I owned a shop in Winchester UK now I live in Tasmania Aus and I might be moving again soon. Where are you? and if I’m that way I’ll let you know. Thanks for watching 😊
+Adam Winklemam Yeah I do start with the 000 and then move onto the Andis T-edgger. I now have the Andis Supra ZR ion clippers... Love them man, Love them.
No I just use a Wahl large flat top comb it's the only comb I use to cut with and then I have a fine comb for the edges, I have found I can do all the haircuts with these two combs so it saves carrying more. Thanks for watching.
+SRIRAM' s GUITAR Hi I have no idea what mousse is better than another I use it to make sure all the hair is standing up straight & strong so when I cut it it's perfect. Sorry I don't know what Brock Lesnar haircut is.
To show you how to do a skin fade quick is pointless, you need to get yourself the right equipment (thats what feels right for you and does the job) and practice. A lot of people like the sliding clippers but I prefer individual blades or the clippers like the Wahl Chrome Style it has an adjustable blade. Most of the work is done with the movement of the clippers on one blade and this is where the practice comes in. Good luck and Thanks for watching. Steve
Hi man, It's not that important what foam but a good hold is best. It's only to make the hair stand up better before cutting the flat top. Thanks for watching. :)
The clippers I use are great, the blades will get hot on the Andis clippers if you keep them running for to long but that depends on you. As for the clipper its self never had any of mine even get warm. Thanks for watching. Steve
I'm using this video to show to my barber, Great flattop! My hair is almost as gray as this gentleman's and I'm ready to go back to a very short cut. What are the lengths top and sides?
+SRIRAM' s GUITAR When I get the time and the client in for it, at the moment I only have 8 flat tops out of over 3000 cients and none of them have good hair for the cut your looking for.
Guards are for sucky barbers. If youre skilled in your craft, you have no need of cheater type tools like giant flattop combs with levels in them ( which theoretically will only work if you plumb bob the head😂) and/or big bulky guards which leave a lot of uncut hair in their wake. The smaller one's are justified if you need an extra step up from a metal blade. Otherwise, you should be able to use clipper over comb, shear over comb, finger/comb/ shear or freehand. Ive been a barber/stylist for 40 years and can say this with confidence
At the moment I'm not because of the COVID situation but I'm hoping to get back to into it as soon as things go back to normal, may even look at getting another shop of my own. :)
