Surprised at the number of people that didn't know Steve could sing. He was doing lead vocals on Flex-Able back in 1983. On Sex & Religion, 1993, he sang lead vocal on Rescue Me or Bury Me, and has regularly sung ever since.
I was so surprised to hear his singing voice. I was very impressed when I bought this on DVD. Not only does he have the ability to "wow" and inspire people with his fluidity and compositions, his voice is a plus. Steve Vai is the definition of "Shock n' All!"
I think he fits the category of "musicians with questionable voices and songwriting who are able to perform their vocal music thanks to being much better at something else". Bit of a long genre, though.
Eu já conhecia Steve Vai como grande solista de guitarra, mas como cantor e violonista ele me surpreendeu!!!!!! Não sabia dessa faceta do maior guitarrista do mundo!!!! SHOW!!!!
Great singer as well ! Especially this tune (and might be the elder shall agree with) reminds me a little the Emerson Lake and Palmer songs ... Thanks God we still have great musicians sharing their art with us ! Awesome Steve !!!
I did not know it was him singing on this song!!!!!! OH MY GOSH!! It's like his guitar is just part of himself and the purest way to express exactly what he is inside.
I have listened to and studied many guitarists, I play myself, Stevie is probably the best of all. He can sing, even though his voice is not the best, otherwise everything about him is perfect. He can play and does so with feeling, he writes interesting, intelligent music, he can perform, is awesome to watch, dressed with taste and looks like a god. I wish him all the best and much more music to come!
oh steve...... SO beautiful... SO beautiful. Your music touches every atom in my body, and reaches into my soul, to the point it becomes spiritual. beautiful music Mr. Vai makes, so wonderful, it's like a fantasy, like a dream. I appreciate his music so much, I wish him the best and hopefully i get to meet him and have a good chat with him.
Anyone else notice the little riff from 0:17 to 0:21 is from the song Damn Good back when he was with David Lee Roth? Classic Vai back then. Gotta love the 80's music :)
And though the sun goes down The fever you adore is burning in your breast Helpless in the fall from paradise into your bed For here it is sown, in time we forget what is man Don't let your body cry This game of love is war And I'm already dead You say- Hold me down and wash away This hunger from my flesh And make me reborn in sweet innocence Come on and make me live It's voodoo that you possess (Your heaven is danger) Deny your dark side, I know All about your secret life Oh Eve And so the moon is high I see that love is blind To the fire in your eyes As our garden fiercely burns We have no place to hide Naked and cold running from the wind Now wrapped in skin It's voodoo that you possess (Your heaven is danger) Deny your dark side, I know All about your secret life It's voodoo that you possess (Your heaven is danger) Behind those lucid eyes The shadow of the serpent lies Oh Eve All about Eve And though the sun goes down The mortals never know
how he still comes back to the classics, at the start he does harmonics that was a brilliant song by David Lee Roth called Dame Good, where Steve plays guitar in his band at the time, how he never forgets
Great song!! Vai is a musical genius!! Ooops, like we didnt already know that. What a violinist, what a band!! Check that run she does just before the slow section!!
is it just me or is steve vai one of the greatest how many speed guitar players can sing and be creative with there lyrics and be good at it steve vai belongs in the line of greatest guitarists ever this song is amazing
I didn't see the lyrics here, so here they are: "All About Eve" And though the sun goes down The fever you adore is burning in your breast Helpless in the fall from paradise into your bed For here it is sown, in time we forget what is man Don't let your body cry This game of love is war And I'm already dead You say- Hold me down and wash away This hunger from my flesh And make me reborn in sweet innocence Come on and make me live It's voodoo that you possess (Your heaven is danger) Deny your dark side, I know All about your secret life Oh Eve And so the moon is high I see that love is blind To the fire in your eyes As our garden fiercely burns We have no place to hide Naked and cold running from the wind Now wrapped in skin It's voodoo that you possess (Your heaven is danger) Deny your dark side, I know All about your secret life It's voodoo that you possess (Your heaven is danger) Behind those lucid eyes The shadow of the serpent lies Oh Eve All about Eve And though the sun goes down The mortals never know
The heaven they thought they would have after being deceived and eating the forbidden fruit. As much as the devil tempted and deceived them they would be as knowledgeable as God, they fell from paradise. That heaven is danger, the current world we live in due to the Fall from Paradise.
I have to correct you man, Steve Vai must have a whole new line for himself, he's far beyond any guitar player this days... because he's not just a guitar player, he's a whole musician and showman.... I don't understand those who still say Hendrix is the best guitar player in history... I mean, after THIS song, there's nothing!!
this is one of his most beautiful songs...and ,apart from the obvious talent as a guitar player...i have always loved when he sings...i feel him singing his soul out, with deep lyrics(this is one of em) ..and soulful voice...well done!
The songs where Steve sings are some of my favourite, the Sex and Religion album with Devin Townsend is excellent, vocals just seem to break up the songs nicely so you appreciate the guitar work more. In my opinion this is probably the best track from Wild Things, great dynamics.
He doesn't shred that often. You need to understand that there's different elements of music that can be used to bring upon different human feelings, and they are interpreted through chords, arpeggios, legato, sweeps, speed, shredding etc. Steve already said many times, that he creates a story with everything he plays, and does it with feeling, with how he feels, whether it's a chord, to a high-speed shred piece. Steve has his own original style, and with it creates beautiful music. Dont judge
