Thank you GoPro. I appreciate that very much coming from you. Please share this & the Extras videos on your FaceBook page, Video Of The Day/Week/Month or any other locations you wish. All I ask is please credit www.jasonmcnamara.net as the come who made the videos because, well I did ;-) Also please mention www.vai.com as well because I'm sure Steve would appreciate that. Again, thank you very much for noticing my work!!
Love how Steve can take a old song of his and make part's of it brand new and so dynamic it stands the test of time and the band is so polished you'd think it was all done in the studio and had many takes.
what makes steve one of the greatest guitarists on the planet is that he always evolves his music, always something new & innovative, audience can always expect something unexpected during his live
Hi yannhk. Not taking a single thing away from Steve, but this was 100% my idea. In case you haven't seen it yet, here's the Extras (behind the scenes) video showing a bit of how this happened. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nNYp3DXF5Cs.html
I'm not saying it's the 1st time it's been done live, but it's the 1st time I've seen Jeremy (or any other person drumming for Vai) do the part from 3:00 - 3:09 just like it was done in the studio by Chris Frazier. It takes a lot of practice to get those double kicks to be syncopated then syncompated within another syncopation. In fact, this is probably the best live performance of this song ever, with the possible exception of full orchestra. Thanks Mr. Vai, your biggest fan Paul Fenz
As the person who made this video, (that would be ME) thank you very much Paul Fenz. I really appreciate your comment. It's also great to know that someone out there would have appreciated the fact that from 3:04 to 3:08 you could see exactly what Jeremy was doing as well. Hopefully Steve will see your comment as well. I have no idea if he will, but maybe.
Thank you very much LMDR. If you want to see some more of my work feel free to check out www.jasonmcnamara.net I recently posted some cool new videos I also made with Marco Minnemann and have uploaded a couple of Nuno Bettencourt videos, but the Nuno one's I have not had a chance to add to my website as yet. I will soon. Cheers, Jason
stuck at home during this covid 19 lock down. might as well watch some vai. still awesome anyway. one thing i must say..he always have the best drummer .have always thought his drum is high speed programmed drum machine recording.. that was until i saw him live in singapore.. didnt get the name. long hair young chap
Saw Vai in a similar venue in Japan in the 90's. He plays some awesome off the wall venues. He's incredible live if you've never seen him. I highly recommend going to a show.
***** Thank you very much. I've also recently done 3 videos for The Aristocrats new DVD with up to 20 cameras for that one. They are very exciting videos. I hope you get to see them when the DVD comes out sometime later this year or early next year.
This is so cool! I hope somewhere down the line Steve grants you permission to put up Building the Church as well, I can imagine all the whammy antics (like the karate chopping at the end) and tapping would look awesome from this perspective! Thank you for putting so much (obvious) effort into this, came out great!
*Kyle'sMusic* You're welcome Kyle and thank you for the kind words. I gotta talk to Steve about that because I was thinking similar. I've got it all filmed, but there's no point in spending a massive amount of hours editing it all together if no one's ever going to get to see it. We'll see.
Love the GoPro! and it illustrates what Ive said before - when steve vai plucks a note the string doesnt vibrate, the string stays still and the universe moves.
Ishi Your filming and editing is brilliant. You've definitely done Steve's music justice! It was so kind and generous of you to hold off on the other tunes (I read your comment below). Did you do the 360 footage? (The app?) Bravo!! :)
BHAKTI BROPHY : Thank you very much. Of course I held off on the other footage. I/you/we need to respect a request when it is given. The app was not of my doing. In fact I don't have it so I actually don't know what you're referring to so that really does mean that it can't have been mine ;-) If you like my work enough to want to see more you should look into purchasing the recent release of The Aristocrats "Culture Clash LIVE DVD". I have 4 videos on there as well. Thanks again, Jason (Ishibashi Music is the Guitar Shop that I work for in Tokyo and it also happens to be my RU-vid Channel).
Ishibashi Music English RU-vid Channel Hi Jason, I'd very much enjoy seeing The Aristocrats live performance! Thank you for the information. Have a wonderful day!
Rui Calado Yes indeed he is. If you love great dummers, you should also watch this other video of mine...ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aQu8M-aV82s.html
You're not the first person to ask me about this Danar. Unfortunately I don't have permission for doing that. Now if someone was hanging out with me and asked to see it I'd have no problem with that. If you ever come to Tokyo let me know. Cheers, Jason
Thanks. I enjoy watching it too and it was my idea. Haha!! I think that's the key with making music, filming videos or anything you do. If you make what you enjoy, want to hear or want to see.... hopefully others will enjoy it too. Thanks again, Jason
That's Jeremy Colson his dad said he was trained with a metronome at his side before the electrical ones came out as a kid, him and Steve have been together since 1999 in studio and later touring.
+outcrasher : Hahaha!!! Congratulations. I'm so amazed by how popular my video has been. And yes, I say "my video" because I filmed & edited this for Steve. Cheers, Jason
Thank you Jim. I know Steve really enjoyed my work on this video too. However we both know the audio sucks and really lets the whole thing down. We were hoping to get a multi track mix of the show, however all they could give us was the 2-track stereo mix from the front of house. It's a shame because killer audio would have lifted this video exponentially. And please, check out some of my other videos. They are scattered around RU-vid. It may help to search for #jasonvideomusictokyo Cheers!
Thanks. I have a 2nd video on my channel about that. You may really enjoy that one too. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nNYp3DXF5Cs.html
Well actually, I do have a Behind The Scenes video from that day which includes Thomas & I talking about the guitar. Here's the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nNYp3DXF5Cs.html
As Steve's friend...I can tell you...It's his trademark "Monkey Grip". Plain and simple. Plus, it looks cool as hell when he whips the guitar around onstage in the exact places the guitar feeds back the most.
+1973wildcatman Vai wrote this before Satriani really broke out and Satriani only has a career because Vai is so fucking good Vai is leagues ahead of Joe in musicality, arranging, and chops Joe's riffs sound like something out of Sonic the Hedgehog
Ishibashi Music English RU-vid Channel in fact, I had watched this whole show some time ago, i don't know if it was on that channel, but i didn't not find it anymore, I would rather see it full, for sure.
Steve requested for me to only edit one song together because he is keeping the rest of the tour for a new DVD which should be out soon. I am respecting his request so that's why this is the only video I have put together.
Sounds like what I thought when learned the intro to "Fine Art of Friendship" by King's X which is one of the coolest guitar parts I ever heard and it's super fun to play, specially if you need a little ego boosting fooling people into thinking that you can play better than you actually do, we've all been through that don't deny it xDDDD
